The Sanitation District Public Affairs Manager oversees four Communications and Media Officers and one administrative support staff. The Office provides external and internal communication services including print and web-based communication materials for employees and external audiences, media relations, branding, advertising, public outreach and education programs, public meeting facilitation, communication counsel and training, event management, strategic communications planning, project management, and other related responsibilities. SASD and REGIONAL SAN SASD provides local sewage collection services to Sacramento County; the cities of Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove; and parts of the cities of Folsom and Sacramento. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Successful candidates will have the ability to:

Direct, manage, and lead a team of professional staff

Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms across all channels including business writing, news writing, website content, social media, presentations and collateral material

Demonstrate keen interpersonal skills

Provide strategic communications counsel to executive management

Work well with the public, staff, consultants, and officials at all levels of government, including elected officials

Serve as a trusted media spokesperson

Exercise sound, independent judgement and discretion

Recognize and effectively manage changing priorities, needs, and pressures placed on the organization

Analyze problems and opportunities, and implement creative solutions

Direct the activities of various communications and graphics consultants

Develop and monitor budgets and expenditures

Proficiently utilize a variety of software applications used in creative projects and communications

Minimum Qualifications:

Either: 1a. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course

work in communications, public relations, public or business administration, journalism, English, or a closely related field; AND 1b. One year of full-time, paid experience employed by the County of Sacramento in the class of Communication and Media Officer III.

Or: 2a. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in communications, public relations, public or business administration, journalism, English, or a closely related field; AND 2b. Two years of full-time, paid experience employed by the County of Sacramento in the class of Communication and Media Officer II.

Or: 3a. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in

communications, public relations, public or business administration, journalism, English, or a closely related field; AND 3b. Four years of full-time, paid experience managing a comprehensive communication program that included responsibility for program development and implementation and extensive liaison

Annual salary range for this position:

$106,320 to $117,220 (there is an additional 3.35% Management Differential added to the posted salary for this class)
