FIELD REPORT 04.21.2017A

Location: Area D

Date: Friday, 21 April, 2017

Time: Approximately 0800am to 1000am, ET

Weather: Partly sunny, becoming mostly cloudy; windy and cold

Present : Myself; Chuck Johnson*

Sanjay’s Note: Certain aspects of this report may be more subjective in their perspective; the reader’s gracious

indulgence is requested. Not all of these phenomena are understood, yet are reported nonetheless as an integral

and vital portion of my own investigations.

Sanjay’s Note: Reference is made to several different, hidden trails at Area D. 1 The first hidden trail leads

directly into the swamp, and is accessed from the main path, opposite the slanted-branch assembly. The second

hidden trail passes through heavy cover into the Large Shelter in the high dunes, and is accessed from the

clearing, at the top of the high dune path. The third hidden trail skirts the edge of the meadow, behind the

(former) Nest location and under the trees, passing into the woods before becoming lost in the dunes further to

the west; I have not explored the third trail in its entirety, for various reasons. The fourth trail leads directly

west from the Large Shelter, but was not discovered until 16 May, 2014.

Items Noted:

I returned to Area D on Friday, 21 April; 2 the weather was partly sunny, although quite cold and windy. Upon

arriving in the carpark, I waited near the trailhead for Chuck Johnson. Everything was rather quiet; there were

no sounds of animals or birds anywhere. 3

While I waited for Chuck to arrive, I visually inspected the ravine bordering the carpark, heavily overgrown

with thick, dense brush; 4 the cast-off tyres were still missing, but the long, wooden plank was still in situ. I

thought it curious that, in all this time, the plank had not been disturbed. 5 6

Who had put it there, and why? And, why had the cast-off tyres disappeared, leaving only the plank?

1 It is quite reasonable to suggest that, in context, other hidden trails may exist, of which I am unaware; the hidden trail presented in

this Report is not counted among these four and may be considered, therefore, a fifth hidden trail at Area D. 2 Sanjay R Singhal. Field Report 11.07.2016b: Area D. Beyond The Forest.

The first photograph presents a view of the large, white granite boulder observed at the trailhead. The second

photograph presents a view of the possible branch assembly observed nearby; although this may be considered

artificial, insufficient detail exists to classify same as an assembly or even a glyph. Nonetheless, notice the use

of multiple branch components, laid side by side on the ground with sharply contrasting bark colours.

At the trailhead, I observed a possible branch assembly, but did not notice sufficient interweaving or

multiplicity of component(s) to confirm same. 7 The construction had not been there previously. 8 I also

observed a large, egg-shaped, white granite boulder at the trailhead, it had not been there previously. 9 I tried

to shift it, but was unable to do so; the boulder was quite heavy.

Again, I asked myself: who had put it there, and why? 10

Chuck Johnson arrived, pulled up, and got out of his vehicle; I laced up my heavy boots, put on my gloves, and

gathered up a bag of Golden Delicious apples as a gift for Sable. I was not certain where to place them,

however; I hoped to find a suitable spot further back in the box canyon. 11 12

Chuck and I set off; as we came down the main path, just before the large, slanted-branch assembly, I glimpsed

what appeared to be a tall, dark figure standing motionless at the top of the high dune. 13

7 As defined by Sanjay R Singhal, the four (4) features which define a branch assembly are as follows: clear, present interweaving of

components; multiplicity of component species; multiplicity of component sizes; and visually contrasting component species colours,

bark, and textures. To this may be added the application of long, slender components supporting large, heavier ones, and/or the

stripping of leaves and twigs from the components, although these are not always observed. 8 Ibid, Singhal. Field Report 11.07.2016b: Area D. 9 Rock of Ages Author(s). Raw Block Granite Colours. Rock of Ages. https://www.rockofages.com/en/quarry/materials/granite-

colors/. Date Unknown. Web. Accessed 15 December 2017. The white granite boulder has been (tentatively) identified as Bethel

White, quarried in the town of the same name in Vermont; it is not native to Michigan. 10 Multiple items have been observed at the trailhead at Area D, of which some are artificial (the small fawn statue, etc) and of which

others are natural (small branch assemblies, the white boulder, etc). The purpose(s) of these objects and their placement remains

unknown; while it is reasonable to suggest, in context, a non-human origin (ie, EC or…something else), a human factor cannot be

comfortably eliminated from this consideration. Someone…or something…is setting these items here, and then removing them. 11 Ibid, Singhal. Field Report 11.05.2016a: Area D. Beyond The Forest.

The first two photographs present views of the high dune, as observed from the main path where I glimpsed the

tall, dark figure standing motionless; the third photograph presents a view of the large, slanted-branch

assembly in its current configuration. The fourth photograph presents a view of the overhead branch.

Before I could call or gesture to Chuck, the figure disappeared.

“Are you sure that’s what you saw, Sanjay?” Chuck asked me.

“No,” I answered, “It was just a glimpse. One moment it was standing there, and then it was gone.” 14

“Do you think it was the Elder Brother?” Chuck then asked. 15

I thought about this for a moment.

The first three photographs present views of the small, suspended-branch assembly in the sapling adjacent to

the large, slanted-branch assembly; notice the beautifully complex interweaving and the use of multiple branch

components with contrasting bark colours, thicknesses, and species. The fourth photograph presents a view of

the ‘X’ profile newly modified within the large, slanted-branch assembly.

“No, I don’t think so,” I said. “The Elder Brother is…larger, and heavier; this one seemed more…slender.” 16

We continued along the main path, coming up to the large, slanted-branch assembly and the suspended-branch

assemblies nearby. The small sapling had lost all its leaves, including those marcescent observed on an earlier

investigation; however, the beautiful interweaving remained. 17 While documenting these changes as I observed

them, Chuck investigated the large, slanted-branch assembly. Suddenly, I heard him calling to me.

“Sanjay,” he said, with some wonder and delight, “Come, and look at this!”

I quickly stepped over, and looked in the direction Chuck was gesturing; I stopped, and exclaimed.

16 For the purposes of this Report, it should be noted, also, that the Elder Brother has richly coloured, dark-brown hair; the figure I

observed appeared to have deep grey-black hair, or possibly solid black with grey edges. The tall, dark figure was also quite slim. 17 Ibid, Singhal. Field Report 11.05.2016a: Area D.

“Hot diggity dog!” I said, with excitement, “It’s an ‘X’!”

Chuck had observed another long, slightly curved branch added to the large, slanted-branch assembly; it had

been placed such that, from our position, the assembly presented a profile in the shape of a large ‘X’. 18

“This is really exciting,” I said to Chuck, “There have been so many modifications to this assembly since I first

observed it; I truly hope this means that new formations will be made soon. And, look up at that large,

suspended branch; it really is beautifully intertwined.” 19

We both looked up at the large, suspended branch immediately west of the large, slanted-branch assembly; I

recalled my first observation of it, so many years ago. How long had it been, I wondered to myself, when I had

telephoned Josh to tell him what I had found, how excited we had been! 20 I recalled the violent tree-shaking

and the loud, ground-shaking stomp I had heard; what a thrill it had been! 21 22

THUNK!

Chuck and I looked at each other.

“Did you hear that?” we both asked. “What was that?”

“Whatever it was,” Chuck said, “It was right behind us.” 23 24

“If I didn’t know better,” I said, “It sounded like someone threw a very large rock at us!” 25 26

“Someone…or something?” Chuck asked.

We both turned around….

evidences and behaviours were documented therein, it provided an excellent reference for same. Josh had wanted very much to

investigate Area D with me; regrettably, this did not happen. 21 Steve Pavlik. My Bigfoot Encounters. The Ghost Bear Blog. http://blogs.nwic.edu/pavlik/2014/02/04/my-bigfoot-encounters/. 4

….I immediately had a strong impression of…hostility…of a creature…watching us intently from the ravine.27

Despite the bare trees, I made no direct, visual observation; nonetheless, my impression of…something…in the

ravine remained intensely aggressive and focussed. 28 29

“Something…doesn’t want us here,” I said, “Why?” 30

“What do you mean?” Chuck asked me.

“This location,” I answered, “This portion of the main path leading into the reserve. Something always happens

here. Whether I am coming, or leaving; something always happens here. Why is that?” 31 32

“Maybe it’s important to someone,” Chuck suggested.

“Yes,” I agreed, “But to whom…and why?” 33

Chuck and I waited several minutes; nothing further happened. The impression of a presence in the ravine

remained; 34 I had a clear, distinct image of a large, grey-brown EC glaring at us.35 He had a pronounced brow-

ridge and a large, sagittal crest; he appeared to be quite tall. 36 37 38

We set off into the reserve, taking the main path as always; everything was eerily quiet all around us. 39

Nonetheless, I had a strong impression of…something…behind us, keeping out of sight, approximately one

hundred yards or so (100yd, or 91.44m). 40

With some shock I realised it was standing very near the large, slanted-branch assembly, glowering upon our

progress. 41 42 43

CLACK!

“Say, did you hear that?” I asked Chuck. “That was a rock-clack, or I’ve never heard one.”

“I heard it, too,” Chuck answered, “It came from the swamp.” 44

“Yes,” I said, “I know.” 45 46

We reached the clearing and set off across it towards the dingle and the box canyon beyond; everything

remained horribly still and quiet in the forest. 47 I had a strong impression of…a presence…upon the high

dune, just to our right; I was beginning to feel somewhat uncomfortable. 48 49

As we were crossing, I observed a line of footprints, somewhat eroded. They extended through the wide, flat

sands in a long, straight line without any straddle or turnout, 50 with a step length of nearly four feet (4ft, or

1.2m). 51 The overall size of the prints were quiet small in comparison with my own; I did not observe any

clear, defined features.

While investigating the footprints, both Chuck and I heard sounds of movement from the high dune to our right;

again, the impression of being watched remained. 52 I began to feel quite exposed in the clearing. 53

These photographs present views of the footprints observed in the thick sand of the clearing, as we made our

way towards the dingle. Notice the impression of deeply embedded toes, as well as a mid-tarsal break, the

straight line of travel and the absence of straddle or turn-out. Also notice the size of the prints, in comparison

with my own boots (size 13 Timberlands) for scale.

As we entered the woods, we stopped briefly to observe the large ‘X’ formation; 54 to my shock, I noticed that

the two main branch components had been separated. 55 One had been picked up and moved a few yards

further west; from the clearing, however, the impression of a large, upright ‘X’ remained, from a distance.

“This doesn’t make sense,” I said to Chuck, “Why would someone…do that?”

“I don’t know,” Chuck said, “What do you think?”

“Well,” I said, “We’ve seen nest/shelter destruction here before, and I’ve observed it elsewhere as well: Area K

and also at Area R. But I’ve never seen an assembly relocated, not like this.”

54 Ibid, Singhal. The ‘X’ Formation: An Analysis and Interpretation. 55 The manipulation of branch assemblies has been documented at numerous sites, including Area D; the presence and/or interference

of humans upon same may be considered a stimulus. Such behaviours may be compared to nest destruction as well, again at Area D

but also at Areas K and R.

This photograph presents views of the large ‘X’ configuration at the edge of the clearing, with the two main

components now separated. Notice the use of multiple vines and intertwined branch components to incorporate

other, vertically-oriented branch components within the assembly, as well.

Nearby, I located the small, suspended-branch assembly I had observed the previous autumn; it appeared

essentially intact, with its beautiful interweaving remaining in situ. 56 We continued our progress into the

woods; everything was still eerily quiet, and the weather seemed to have turned. 57

I could not find the sapling where I had hung up the bag of apples last November; there was a great deal of

severe wind and storm damage everywhere. As I looked around, I observed a glimpse of movement far to the

right, at the crest of the high dune; 58 I blinked and looked again, but it was gone.

I realised, with a jolt of excitement, we were not alone.

“Chuck,” I said, with some trepidation, “I don’t think we’re alone.” 59

“Yes,” he said, “I know.”

“Something…knows we’re here.” 60

“Yes,” he said, “I know.”

We continued our progress through the woods, now rising gently up to the edge of the box canyon. As we came

over the rise and looked down into the box canyon, I had a strong impression that the slope down was

considerably steeper than I had remembered. Nonetheless, we made our way down, albeit with some effort; I

did not remember it being so difficult.

“Something is different,” I said to Chuck. “Something is…not right.” 61

“What do you mean?” he asked me.

“I don’t know,” I said, “I can’t quite put a finger on it…but something is not the same, something has changed

here. Something is…not right.” 62

“Do you feel we’re in danger?” Chuck asked me. 63

“No,” I answered, “I don’t feel nervous, or apprehensive, but something…is not right. Something…has

changed; something is different, but it all looks the same.” 64

“It’s not the same,” Chuck agreed, “That slope was never that steep before. Could it have eroded?”

“Well, it’s certainly possible,” I said, “But nothing else has changed; even the campfires are in the same place,

with the same logs. Nothing else has changed, just the slope of the dune….”

Everything looked different; everything was the same. I looked around at the woods, the steep dunes, the

clumps of pine trees and they looked the same but they were not the same.

“I feel,” I said to Chuck, “That I’ve never been here before, that this is all new, but this is impossible.”

Accounts of EC being aware of the presence of humans in the forest, are often troubling and sometimes frightening. 61 This impression is curious in context of my previous visits to this location at Area D. Although entirely subjective, my impression

of something…not right…was quite compelling, and quite frankly, incomprehensible. 62 Jenny Randles. Essay on the Oz Factor and the Strange Sensations of Altered Reality Reported by UFO Witnesses. Alien Jigsaw.

The first photograph presents a view looking north to the high dune, where I glimpsed…something...which

disappeared rather quickly. The second photograph presents the same view in close-up, focussed upon a series

of dark areas; however, these remain inconclusive. The third photograph presents the gift of the golden apples

as I set them along the fallen tree trunk; don’t they look nice? The fourth photograph…oh, boy. The fourth

photograph is one of a series looking northeast from the box canyon; the dark silhouette in the centre appears

to shift between frames. Further analysis of these images is on-going.

“What do you mean, Sanjay?”

“I’ve been here so many times, alone and with you,” I said. “Why…does it look so different?” 65

It was really quite puzzling. 66 67

At the back of the box canyon, I observed a tall clump of pine trees; I had investigated them previously and so

thought they might be a good place to set out the apples. Accordingly, we made our way through the brush and

the sloping, rolling ground; as we came up to the pine trees, however, I suddenly stopped.

“Chuck,” I said, “We are being watched.” 68 69 70

“Yes,” he agreed, “I know.”

The impression of being watched was extremely intense; it was an unmistakeable, almost overwhelming force.

I looked all around, but made no direct, visual observation. To the north, high on the dune slope, was thick,

heavy brush, almost impenetrable; was something…there? 71

“Something is watching us,” I said, “And, it’s making sure we know we’re being watched.” 72 73

Curiously, I was not frightened; I had come there with good intention (and with food) and so proceeded to set

out the apples for Sable.74 We attempted to tie up the bag to a sapling, but the bag burst, scattering apples all

over the ground; I collected them all rather hurriedly. Looking about, I noticed a large, fallen tree suspended

horizontally a few yards away; I arranged the apples in a row along the trunk.

While doing so, I again had a strong impression of being watched; the force of it was astounding. 75

“Let’s go up through the dunes,” I suggested, “I’ve done it before; the trail comes out along the ridge and we

can walk back around to the meadow.” 76

“Good idea,” Chuck agreed, but we discovered numerous large, fallen trees blocking our route. Accordingly,

we returned the way we had come, making our way back through the box canyon, ascending the long, steep

dune slopes that had not been there before. As we were leaving, I turned to Chuck.

“I hate to say this,” I said, “But, we are being watched.” 77

“Yes,” he said. “I know.”

“And,” I continued, “It’s behind us.” 78

“Yes,” he said, “I know.”

We continued out of the box canyon, through the dingle, and emerged into the clearing. From there, we

accessed the main path running (roughly) east-west through the meadow before rising up to the dune saddle.

The sand along the main path was quite soft; we trudged along quite slowly.

“Look at this,” Chuck said, quite suddenly, “What do you make of this?”

The first photograph presents the strange tuft of brown and grey hairs observed on the main path; although it is

reasonable to suggest, in context, a gift from the EC, this cannot be confirmed. The second photograph

presents a view of the strange, elongated, single-line track in the sand, with my nice boots for scale.

He gestured to an extended, twisted tuft of brown and grey hairs, lying on the main path like a length of rope.

From the colour and texture, it appeared to be Eastern Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) 79 but I could not be

certain; it may have been Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus). 80

“Do you think it’s a gift?” Chuck asked me. 81

“Well,” I replied, “I honestly don’t know…yes…maybe…?” 82

We continued along the main path; Chuck observed a strange, linear track in the sand. It had every appearance

of a narrow length of braid, dragged through the sand like a thickly grooved wheel; it did not appear artificial

but neither of us could identify it. 83

As we walked along, I felt my attention drawn to the dune ridge bordering the north side of the meadow; I

continued to have a strong impression of being watched, but again, something was not right. 84

I said to Chuck, “Something isn’t right, here. Something…is not right.” 85

“You said that before,” Chuck replied. “What is wrong, Sanjay?”

Nonetheless, it is reasonable to suggest, in context, this behaviour. 83 This track remains unidentified. 84 Ibid, Meldrum. Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science. 85 Compare to my earlier observations and impressions in the box canyon; we were standing in a wide, open meadow with little to no

concealment and yet I felt, quite clearly and distinctly, that something…was not right.

“That’s just it,” I said, “Nothing is…wrong, but something…is not right.” 86 87

It was a very strange impression; again, I did not feel we were in danger, but something…was not right.

And then, I realised….

….we were being followed.

“Chuck,” I said, rather hurriedly, “I hate to say this, but I think we’re being followed.” 88

“Yes,” he said, “I know.”

“About a hundred yards back,” I said, “Just where the main path comes out of the woods.” 89

“Yes,” he said, “I know.”

I looked back along the main path, where it emerged from the woods; I made no direct, visual observation but

had a strong impression, nonetheless, of a tall, bulky, upright figure, looking back at us. 90 91

It was a trifle unsettling.

We arrived soon at the dune saddle; the impression of being followed remained. 92 Curiously, I observed no

tracks in the dune saddle; the sand was bare, and empty, as though it had been swept clean.

“This is really most odd,” I said to Chuck, “Usually, there are lots of tracks here!” 93

We then ascended the dune slope to the ridge; I was excited to show Chuck the hidden trail I had found on an

earlier investigation.94 We then continued along the hidden trail, which mounted high up along the ridge; at the

top, we stopped. Below us was a deep, thickly forested valley I had never seen before.

“Hot diggity dog!” I exclaimed, “I didn’t know this was here!”

“Neither did I,” Chuck agreed, “Do you want to go down there?”

The feeling of being followed is not uncommon in many EC encounters; in the dense forest, it can be absolutely frightening. 89 This is a curious observation; compare to my impression of something behind us as we walked along the main path, before emerging

into the clearing. Notice my estimation of one hundred yards…again. 90 Ibid, Singhal. Field Report 11.01.2008: Area D. Beyond The Forest. https://beyondtheforestblog.wordpress.com/2014/09/09/field-

I thought about this, for a moment.

“No,” I said, “I don’t. I don’t…feel…comfortable here.” 95

“Why not?” Chuck asked me.

“Well,” I said, slowly, “I have a strange feeling...something feels…we’re not allowed.” 96

We then continued along the ridge trail back to the carpark; Chuck and I had explored this area previously and

so were quite familiar with the terrain.97 Nonetheless, we both realised that the large, thick clumps of trees and

heavy brush offered excellent concealment from the meadow and the main path running through it; it would be

quite easy to pass along the ridge trail unnoticed by…anyone.

We returned to the clearing, and then accessed the main path back to the carpark.

FIELD REPORT 04.21.2017A

SUMMARY

Substantiation of this Report and those behaviours described herein, may be provided, for the most part, by my

own investigations and experiences at Area D, which I have carried out since 2008.98 I do not know of other

encounters and/or sightings in this area, nor am I aware of any other investigations, either on-going or

intermittent. Nonetheless, a review of same suggests considerable activity at this site.

The writing of this Field Report has enabled me to examine and assess certain and various behaviours at Area D

and to begin not only to realise pattern(s) of same but also possible rationale(s) as well. It is clear to me that at

least a small group of EC may reside here, and that, of these, at least one (possibly Sable) has been here for

some time. Nonetheless, further research and investigation is required.

The combination of physical, visual, audible and/or olfactory events described in this Report are as follows:

1. The strange, eerie silence, experienced throughout;

2. The possible ground-based branch assembly, observed at the trailhead;

3. The large, egg-shaped boulder of white granite, observed at the trailhead;

4. The observation of a tall, dark figure at the top of the high dune, standing motionless;

5. The sudden disappearance of same;

6. The manipulation of the large, slanted-branch assembly;

7. The possible supplement of a large component to form an ‘X’ configuration;

8. The manipulations of the small, suspended-branch assembly adjacent;

9. The large, heavy rock, thrown at us from the ravine and landing directly behind us;

10. The possible line of footprints in the clearing, eroded but with a long step length, no straddle or turnout,

and a straight line of travel;

11. The sounds of movement, heard from the heavily forested high dune;

12. The possible glimpse of movement on the high dune;

13. The strange tuft of hair, observed on the main path through the meadow.

These factors, alone or in combination with past experience(s), may be considered sufficient to suggest the

presence of EC 99 at Area D in the late spring of 2017.

The puzzling confusion, the expression, and the impression of something not being right experienced both in the

box canyon and in the meadow may be considered a personal infrasound event, lacking any other definition;

however, it did not prevent me from continuing my field work. Such effects may suggest some type of sensory

manipulation, although further clarification is almost impossible to confirm.

An unusual number of subjective events also occurred. While these cannot be considered conclusive, neither

should they be discounted. Although it is reasonable to review the impact of non-objective stimuli in this

Report, such effects, while personally quite vivid and at times overwhelming, are nonetheless nearly impossible

to substantiate with any measure of certainty.
