From Bach to Ravel Anne Akiko Meyers, Violin Bloch: Concerto Grosso No. 1 Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 Haydn: Symphony No. 83 ”The Hen” Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending Ravel: Tzigane Anne Akiko Meyers, one of the world’s premier concert violinists, will perform Vaughan Williams’ elegant The Lark Ascending and Ravel’s Tzigane. Ernest Bloch’s neo-classical Concerto Grosso is followed by Bach’s infamous Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, taking the strings on a musical excursion from 1925 back to the Baroque era. Haydn’s playful “Hen” Symphony completes this delightful program.

Fantastique Opening Lynn Harrell, Cello John Adams: Tromba Lontana Elgar: Cello Concerto Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique This concert opens with a surprising fanfare by brilliant American contemporary composer John Adams. Lynn Harrell, who has a place in the highest echelon of today’s performing artists, will perform Edward Elgar’s cornerstone of the cello literature. The program closes with the romantic signature piece by Berlioz, telling the story of a gifted artist escaping from hopeless love where his beloved becomes a melody which he hears everywhere.

Jo Anne Wasserman, Artistic Director Rena Harms, SopranoNina Yoshida Nelsen, Mezzo-SopranoTBD, Tenor Mark Schnaible, Bass Hass: Study for String Orchestra Tchaikovsky: Serenade for Strings Op. 48 Mozart: “Coronation” Mass Experience this exciting collaboration with the Santa Barbara Choral Society in the famous “Coronation Mass,” one of Mozart’s most radiating works, sparkling with color and energetic drive. The Mass is complimented by Tchaikovsky’s Serenade, a beautiful homage to Mozart’s serenades, and the Study for String Orchestra by Pavel Haas was written during World War II in the Terezin concentration camp.

And Bizet’s Carmen is re-scored by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin. With Daugherty and Moncayo, you will hear colorful and bright contemporary music led by guest conductor, Carlos Miguel Prieto, famed for his dynamism, and rising Canadian violin star, Alexandre Da Costa.

String Workshops: Over 300 of our community’s young aspiring musicians, 4th graders to high school seniors, experience weekly music lessons at no cost. Concerts for Young People: Free, live concerts for our county’s 4th, 5th and 6th graders at The Granada Theatre; often a first experience to hear a live, symphonic performance.

Teachers Guide: 4th, 5th and 6th grade teachers use our easy-to-understand curriculum about orchestral instruments. Pre-Concert Talks: Ramón Araïza’s popular adult education talks help thousands understand and appreciate the music we perform.
