TEEN ARTS MENTORSHIP 2017 seriously considering pursuing advanced study and careers in art, performance and literature. The Arts Fund’s mentorships have helped hundreds of Santa Barbara teens produce advanced work for college applications, gain practical experience, and secure professional references to help them take their talent to the next level. Mentorship students work in small groups with a master artist or writer in various locations around Santa Barbara. They produce portfolio-quality work, learn presentation and exhibition techniques, and explore career opportunities with artists and writers from the community. Please visit our website www.artsfundsb.org for more information. - This course will explore the art and craft of relief print- making, primarily linoleum carving. Students will pursue traditional print techniques, explore the role of text in art and learn some book-binding basics. The class will explore how contemporary printmaking connects to the worlds of graphic design, fine arts, book arts, and the students’ personal artistic interests. The group will create a print suite with pieces from each student. Students will learn the process of designing murals for public spaces by assisting in the design and execution of 6 murals on utility boxes on Clark Ave. Students will learn the production process, designing on a 3-D space and learn about presentation and different techniques used to create murals. Students will learn how mural design is a viable way for artists to have a sustainable career in the arts field. Through brain storming and mapping sessions, students will adapt their visions and stories into professional designs for painting on the utility boxes. Topics include choosing a subject matter, budgeting, drawing & coloring in Photoshop, color theory & how to use silhouettes/negative space, and more.
