10 PRACTICE-ORIENTED EDUCATION
In terms of education, the University is practice-oriented. Since the first year, students come into contact with reality, with subjects that allow them to learn how to exercise their profession, helping them to realize from the beginning if the career they chose meets their expectations and vocation.
11 PERSON-CENTERED ENVIRONMENT
Universidad de los Andes develops teaching, research, continuing education and outreach work in different fields of knowledge. In turn, it has an active alumniUANDES association, with more than 13,000 graduates, and has an active job placement service, which helps place our graduates in upper-level job positions.
12 ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Counseling is available for all undergraduate students, which constitutes one of the pillars of the University’s academic model. This is to accompany the student in a personalized way in his/her training as a university student, supporting his/her discovery and enhancement of capacities, for him/her to be open to new human and spiritual horizons, and be an integral professional in service of society.
13 RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
Our house of studies counts with interdisciplinary investigation that combines different areas of knowledge. Since its creation, the Innovation Directorate has more than 25 projects awarded with public and private resources for applied research, in areas such as biomedicine, education, dentistry, among others.
We have filed 8 patent applications and three start-ups have been born, which have involved the fund raising of more than USD 40 million.
Currently there are 43 research and development projects (innovacion. uandes.cl/), awarded in the areas of biomedicine, engineering, dentistry and education (between 2011 – 2015), and 72 technologies still under development.
14 RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
1. Cells 4 Cells:
First biotechnology company to research and develop therapies with adult stem cells. The use of 3D printers has been perfected in the last decade. However, worldwide it is in the area of regenerative medicine where its application has been more innovative, under the so-called “3D bio-impression”. In this scenario, a group of researchers from the Universidad de los Andes, along with an MIT student, have begun working on a 3D printer prototype capable of modeling parts of the human body.
These researchers have developed new biomaterials and stem cell sources capable of improving the results in the bio-impression of several types of human tissue.
2. Regenero:
It is the second spin off of the Universidad de los Andes and is focused on developing cellular therapies for degenerative diseases that have a high economic and social impact, such as chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, among others.
In addition to the aforementioned research and innovation, we have created 2 Spin Offs:
15 WORLD CLASS CAMPUS
We have a single campus occupying 52 hectares, 19 of which are green areas, where all the students of the 28 undergraduate careers and 11 baccalaureate programs are found, thus achieving a complete and enriching learning process.
16 MASTER PLAN, UANDES CAMPUS PROJECTION
Our Master Plan includes university residences, a building for health-area careers, one for postgraduate courses, one for university life, a museum, and one for sports.
17 ENGINEERING LABORATORIES
Within the campus, there are also several Civil Engineering laboratories that support the practical and dynamic teaching of our students (UANDESLAB, Energy Conversion Laboratory, Interaction Device Laboratory, Computer Science Teaching Laboratory, Robotics Laboratory, among others).

19 BLOOMBERG LABORATORIES
The Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences of the Universidad de Los Andes, inaugurated its Investment Laboratory, an interactive space for stock exchange information equipped with 12 Bloomberg terminals and 5 terminals from the Santiago Stock Exchange, where the students put into practice the knowledge of different courses, with the same connections that the companies and financial institutions of Chile and the world currently have. Additionally, this installation has wall screens for teaching and favoring interactive classes.
Bloomberg’s incorporation into this type of labs has been around for several years and nearly 400 universities in the world work with this company, including some from the United States such as Columbia, Stanford, Harvard and Chicago, among others.
