La devoción a Nuestra Señora del Valle, en Manzanilla, comienza en el siglo XV. Según la leyenda, el animal que transportaba la imagen de la misma desde Sevilla se quedó paralizado al pasar por el enclave donde se sitúa ahora la ermita.

A partir de aquí, devotos llegados de toda la comarca no han dejado de acudir para venerarla.

El lugar de la leyenda es el vado de San Nicolás, a las afue-ras de Manzanilla, donde se encuentra el Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Valle.

La ermita primitiva era tan pequeña que cuando se cele-braba la misa solamente cabían el sacerdote y algunos mi-nistros. A principios del siglo XVIII fue agrandada gracias a Don Gonzalo José Ossorno, Canónigo de Sevilla.

Posteriores reformas, patrocinadas siempre por devotos fieles, añadieron el crucero, la capilla mayor, el atrio y un nuevo retablo.

Las tres portadas de su fachada dan acceso al interior, con planta de cruz latina. Un crucero con bóveda semiesférica y un presbiterio, de mayor altura que el resto, forman un conjunto con una bellezaacorde a la titular del santuario.

Y en el centro, brillando en el camarín expresamente hecho para Ella: ¡Nuestra señora del Valle!

The devotion to Our Lady of the Valley, in Manzanilla, star-ted in the XVth century. According to the legend, the ani-mal that carried the statue of the Virgin from Seville got paralysed when passing by the spot where the hermitage is right now.

Since them, devotees from the everywhere in the region have come to venerate her.

The place mentioned in the legend is the vado de San Nico-las (Saint Nicholas’ ford) where the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Valley is located.

The primitive hermitage was so small that when the mass was given only the priest and some ministers fitted insi-de. At the beginning of the XVIIIth century it was enlarged thanks to Gonzalo Jose Ossorno, canon from Seville.

With latter refurbishing, always financed by devoted belie-vers, the transept, the main chapel, the atrium and the new retable were added.

The three façades on the frontage give access to the inside, which has a Latin cross floor plan. A transept with a half-sphere vault and a presbytery higher than the rest make this ensemble to be as beautiful as the Virgin, the titular saint of the sanctuary.

And in the middle, shining in the alcove expressly made for her: Our Lady of the Valley!
