Introduction and Recommendations

The license key request application allows you to request keys for licenses purchased on SAP paper – http://service.sap.com/licensekeys.

Licenses bought via Sybase must be requested in the Sybase Product Download Center (SPDC) on http://sybase.subscribenet.com.

We recommend to use a Sybase installation number to set up system IDs and register your license keys.

Installation numbers can be requested under http://service.sap.com/contactsap.

More information about Sybase license keys can be found in the Help & FAQ section on http://service.sap.com/licensekeys.

In case of questions or technical issue with the license keys please open a message on XX-SER-LIKEY-SYB.

Generating a license key for a new system –Select Installation

Here you can select the installation name from the list of recently used installations.

Here you can also search for the installation and click on Search.

Before you begin – choose your license model

Below is an excerpt from the SySAM 2 Users Guide. It is recommended you review the SySAM 2 Users Guide prior to generating your license keys.

Determining Your License Deployment Model:

Before you generate licenses for SySAM 2-enabled products, determine the license deployment model to use.

There are two license deployment models from which to choose: the served license model or the un-served license model.

When you use the un-served license deployment model, you generate and download a separate license for each machine where the product runs.

Sybase recommends that you use the served license model if you run products on more than several machines, as this simplifies and centralizes license administration providing more control over software assets.

After you download the un-served licenses, you can install your Sybase products.


Un-served Licenses Served LicensesLicenses can be used only on the machine for whichthe license was generated.

Licenses can be distributed from a network licenseserver to products running on any network machine.

Generate licenses at SPDC or SMP for each machine that will run the product:1. Specify the host ID of the machine where the product will run.2. Generate a license for that machine.3. Save the license to the specified machine.4. Repeat steps 1 - 3 for each machine where the product will run.

Generate licenses at SPDC or SMP for products running on multiple machines:1. Specify the host ID of the license server.2. Specify the number of required licenses.3. Save the licenses to the license server host machine.

No license administration is required. However,when new licenses are required for product updates,you must update and deploy each license for eachmachine where the product update will run.

The license server requires administration. Whennew licenses are required for product updates, SPDC or SMP lets you update all licenses for a specific license server in a single step.

No license reporting or asset management capabilities are available.

Allows license monitoring and reporting of licenseuse, capacity planning, and asset management using SAMreport.


Un-served Licenses Served LicensesInstalled locally and always available. Requires a functioning license server and network.

Ifthe license server or network fails, you must fix theproblem or install an alternate license server beforethe product grace period expires.

If a machine where the product is running fails, youmust regenerate all of its licenses and deploy thoselicenses to the replacement machines.

If a machine where the product is running fails, youcan move the product to a new machine, and it willacquire licenses from the running license server.If the license server host machine fails, use the Manage License Hosts functionality at SPDC or SMP to move its licenses to a new network license server host.

License files are distributed across each machinerunning a product, and therefore they are difficult tomanage and control.

License files are centrally located and managed.

Un-served Standalone Seat (SS) licenses do not allow product use via Remote Desktop Connection or other terminal services clients.

Products can be used via Remote Desktop Connection or other Terminal Services clients, irrespective of the type of license in use.

SERVED LICENSE MODEL

Generating SySAM license keys – Select entitlement

Select the entitlement record from which your license key will be generated. Note your license type.

Click on Select to Generate.

Choose your license model. See the SySAM Users Guide for more information.

Click on Next.

Enter the quantity of license to be generated.

Click on Next.

Enter Host ID information for the machine on which the SySAM license file will be deployed. See “What is My Host ID” and “About License Server Port Numbers” for additional information.

Optional: You may deploy SySAM licenses to a fault tolerant 3 license server cluster.

Click on Generate.

Click on Download License File to save the license file for deployment to your environment. See the SySAM Users Guide for more information on deploying your license files.

Click on Additional Keys to generate additional license files for this system or Click on Back to return to the list of systems for this installation.

Generating SySAM license keys – Un-served license model: Select entitlement

Select the entitlement record from which your license key will be generated. Note your license type.

Click on Select to Generate.

Click on Next.

Enter the number of machines to which you will deploy Un-served license files. Note this is not the license quantity to be deployed per machine.

Click on Next.

Enter Host ID information for the machine on which the SySAM license file will be deployed. (See “What is My Host ID” for additional information.) Also enter the Number of Licenses to be used on this machine. In this example, ‘4’ is entered to license a 4 CPU core machine.

Click on Download License File to save the license file for deployment to your environment. See the SySAM Users Guide for more information on deploying your license files.

Click on Additional Keys to generate additional license files for this system or Click on Back to return to the list of systems for this installation.

Generating Afaria license keys - Introduction

Afaria uses a serial number system to uniquely identify a product instance One serial number is assigned to a system. If you create a new system, a new serial number will be generated.

• See ‘Creating a New System’ at the beginning of this document. If you access an existing system, your existing serial number will be preserved.

When creating your system, select Afaria product and product version.

SySAM licenses sometimes need to be maintained, such as when Support Renewal occurs, or new product versions are implemented. If an Upgrade button is displayed on a license summary, click on the Upgrade button and your license file information will be automatically regenerated with any new data included.

Download the resulting license file and replace the existing license file in your deployment.

After your license Upgrade has been performed, the Upgrade button will no longer be displayed.

License Check-in allows you to return a previously generated license to the available pool. This feature can be used if you need to move your license to a new host machine, or if your license was generated in error.

Note there are currently 91 licenses available, and clicking the Check-in button will return a 4 core license generated for host id 234567890.


Confirm or Cancel license Check-in.


License for host id 234567890 has been successfully checked in and available quantity has been updated to 95 (91+4). License may now be re-generated for deployment to a new host.
