September, 2018. As I lace up my skates for the first time, I know I’m going to be the worst one out there. I had never had a skating lesson, and I had only payed street hockey a few times. I knew some of the rules from playing NHL 17 but still, I didn’t follow hockey. My equipment was mostly borrowed from my older cousin who played for Reading Youth Hockey.
As I step out on the clean sheet of ice, I immediately fall face-first. It’s going to be a long season…
Fast forward to the 2019-2020 season. I play for the Squirt 4’s. I’m now one of the leading scorers on my team. My best friend is backing me up on defense, and I’ve made a bunch of new friends who feel like family. I was even been named Valley League Player of the Week in January!
One of the worst/best moments of the season came in January of 2020, my team was playing in the Cape Cod Classic and I was on the couch at home, with the flu. My dad live-streamed all the games for me and my team called and Face-timed me between games. When they came back, they gave me a sweatshirt from the tournament. It’s now my favorite thing to wear.
I want to thank Reading Youth Hockey, the coaches, parents, and everyone else. Hockey has become a passion of mine and I couldn’t have done it without them.

Why I love playing hockey
My name is Cristian Ramos and I am 9 years old. Last year I played for Reading Youth Hockey Mite 1. I love playing hockey because you get very sharp skates and you glide on the ice very smoothly. Another reason why I love playing hockey is you get to play in front of a huge crowd. A third reason why I love playing hockey is you get to make new friends every year! Finally, I like playing for Reading because there are so many great people in Reading. That is why I love playing hockey for Reading.

My name is Henry and I like playing hockey because it's really fun. It’s fun because I get to play with my friends. I got to meet a lot of new friends this year. I really like to play in the games and celebrate with my friends after we score a goal. I like playing for RYH because I like the logo and the colors. I like to be rivals with my cousins from Woburn. My cousins also play for Reading and it is very fun seeing them at the rink. I really, really, really like playing in Reading because of the Burbank pizza.

The reason why I love hockey is when you get older you can hip check people into the other team's bench. Also, it is not a slow moving game like golf, it is action packed. Another reason why I love hockey is because you can crush your rivals and they could have been talking smack to you and then after the game have them be so quiet it's the best feeling in the world. The third reason why I love hockey is because you can do it anywhere you want. You can do it at your brother or sister’s hockey game and still pay attention to what is happening.
I love Reading hockey. The reason why I love playing with a Reading logo on the front of my jersey is because I make new friends and each game my relationship with somebody gets bigger. If somebody makes a mistake we don't put them down. The coaches tell them what they could have done in that situation and then everybody picks him up and they do great on their next shift. This is why I love hockey and Reading hockey.

I love playing hockey in Reading. One reason is I love playing for my home town. The second reason is most of my friends play in Reading. The third reason is I always wanted to play Reading hockey, ever since I was little. Those are the reasons why I love to play Reading hockey.
