Welcome to the Hervey Bay Seafood Festival – where the prawns are plump, the fish is fresh, and the scallops are scrumptious.

The pristine waters of the Fraser Coast and greater Wide Bay area are known for producing some of the best wild caught seafood in the world.

Hervey Bay is one of Queensland’s major seafood hubs with a vibrant commercial fishing and onshore seafood processing industry.

It supplies fine quality fish, prawns, crustaceans and the iconic Hervey Bay scallops to leading restaurants and a network of retail outlets.

This means seafood lovers near and far can enjoy top quality Queensland wild caught seafood.

I’d like to congratulate the organisers of the 2018 Hervey Bay Seafood Festival for this initiative that began 20 years ago. Their aims to create awareness of the economic and social

roles of the seafood industry in the coastal Queensland are to be admired. It has become an iconic event on the foodie tourism calendar and a place where the industry gathers every year.

Today it is my pleasure to be opening the festival and welcoming seafood lovers to this beautiful part of Queensland.

I am also extremely pleased to be launching another ground-breaking initiative of the Hervey Bay seafood industry.

The Wide Bay Wild Catch regional seafood brand is an exciting new concept which highlights the exceptional story of local seafood here.

While this festival is not only a showcase of the magnificent local product, I am also looking forward to talking to the local fishermen and seafood consumers and taking in the attractions of the day, and I would urge you to do the same.

Thank you to everyone who has made this festival such a success.

Our Story

Wide Bay Wild Catch represents the love of local seafood harvested from the waters of the Wide Bay region. It is the story of our magnificent wild fish, the people and the places of seafood in our unique marine environment.

The vibrant seafood industry of today based at Urangan, Bundaberg and Tin Can Bay was established over 150 years ago along the rivers and bays of the region. The site of Fishermen’s Park has great cultural significance in the story of local seafood as where seafood has been landed for centauries and as a gathering place to feast, just as the Butchulla traditional owners did in a winter mullet season.

Hon Mark Furner, Minister for Agricultural Development & Fisheries will officially launch Wide Bay Wild Catch regional seafood brand.
