    Highlights: 20 endemics, Ornate and Andean Tinamou, Torrent and Crested Duck, White-tufted

    and Great Grebe, Waved Albatross, Elliot’s Storm-Petrel, Peruvian Diving-Petrel, Andean

    Condor, Chilean Flamingo, Giant Coot, Peruvian Thick-knee, Rufous-bellied, Gray-breasted and

    Least Seedsnipe, Chilean Skua, Inca Tern, Croaking, Bare-faced and Black-winged Ground-

    Dove, Blue-headed Macaw, Oilbird, Band-bellied Owl, Black-breasted Hillstar, Giant

    Hummingbird, Bronze-tailed Comet, Black Metaltail, Many-spotted Hummingbird, Blue-

    crowned Trogon, Chestnut-capped Puffbird, Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, Black-necked

    and Bar-bellied Woodpecker, Coastal, Thick-billed and Dark-winged Miner, Surf and White-

    bellied Cinclodes, Rusty-crowned and Streaked Tit-Spinetail, Baron’s Spinetail, Streak-

    throated and Streak-backed Canastero, Tschudi’s Tapaculo, Stripe-headed Antpitta, Rufous-

    headed and Short-tailed Pygmy-Tyrant, Many-colored Rush-Tyrant, Rufous-webbed Bush-

    Fruiteater, White-collared Jay, Brown-bellied and White-banded Swallow, Fasciated and

    Seedeater, Oriole Blackbird, Thick-billed and Black Siskin; and of course many other bird

    species, non-birds include great looks of Vicuna and Viscacha, and a myriad of butterflies

    This trip list follows the taxonomic order and nomenclature Clements 6th Edition (updated 2014).

    The statuses of threatened bird species are derived from Birdlife International (Threatened

    Species).

    * - Heard only NP – National Park

    Tinamous - Tinamidae

    *Little Tinamou (Crypturellus soui): Heard daily at Villa Jennifer Nov 7-10 and at Tingo Maria

    National Park on the 9th.

    *Undulated Tinamou (Crypturellus undulatus): One heard from the Villa Jennifer grounds on

    the Nov 10th.

    Ornate Tinamou (Nothoprocta ornata): Good looks of one beside the central highway Junin as

    we drove by, on the 4th and at a roadside stop further on where another was observed by some on

    the ground and then flushed from the puna grassland.

    Andean Tinamou (Nothoprocta pentlandii): Brief looks of one flushed from upper Santa Eulalia

    valley on Nov 2nd.

    Ducks - Anatidae

    Andean Goose (Chloephaga melanoptera): Fairly common in the high puna wetlands of upper

    Santa Eulalia, Ticlio and Marcapomacocha bogs, and the Lago Junin area.

    Crested Duck (Lophonetta specularioides): About 30 was estimated at Lago Junin; six were at

    the pass area beyond Junin on the 6th.

    Torrent Duck (Merganetta armata): Two stunning males were perched on rocks, on the

    Huallaga River along the Central Highway, en route to Huanuco on the 4th. SH saw one the

    following day along the same river en route to Carpish Pass.

    Mallard (Anas platyrynchos) Introduced: Two (potential escapees) were at the ponds of the

    interpretive center Pantanos de Villa.

    Cinnamon Teal (Anas cyanoptera): A female with four young were at the ponds at the

    interpretive center Pantanos de Villa.

    White-cheeked Pintail (Anas bahamensis): Good looks of four at Pantanos de Villa; and another

    10 observed at Lago Junin.

    Yellow-billed Pintail (Anas georgica): Approximately 20 was observed at Lago Junin.

    Puna Teal (Anas puna): Fairly common (20) at Lago Junin and at the Cerro de Pasco wetlands.

    Yellow-billed (Speckled) Teal (Anas flavirostris): Common at Lago Junin: 100’s observed along

    the drying shores of Lago Junin; several along the shores of the lakes at the area of Cerro de

    Pasco pass north of Junin.

    Ruddy (Andean) Duck (Oxyura (ferruginea) jamaicensis): The southern black-headed race was

    observed at a few localities including Pantanos de Villa, Ticlio Bog, Lago Junin with a high of

    30, and Cerro de Pasco pass.

    Guans - Cracidae

    Speckled Chachalaca (Ortalis guttata): A few observed everyday on the Villa Jennifer grounds.

    Grebes - Podicipedidae

    White-tufted Grebe (Rollandia rolland): This pretty grebe was observed twice, both singles in

    molt: a small pond east of Lago Junin on the 4th and one accompanied by a Giant Coot at Cerro

    de Pasco pass on the 11th.

    Silvery Grebe (Podiceps occipitalis): Low water levels resulted in only one found at the north

    side of Lago Junin. Most were likely far offshore.

    Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus podiceps): Three observed at Pantanos de Villa wetlands.

    Great Grebe (Podiceps major): Eight were observed at Pantanos de Villa wetlands, most still in

    alternate plumage, including one on a nest.

    Flamingos - Phoenicopteridae

    Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis) Near threatened: Hundreds were observed at Lago

    Junin Nov 4th.

    Penguins - Spheniscidae

    Humboldt Penguin (Spheniscus humboldti) Vulnerable: Approximately 150+ penguins were

    observed on the breeding rocks of Isla Palomino.

    Albatrosses - Diomedeidae

    Waved Albatross (Phoebastria irrorata) Critically Endangered: Seven observed on the pelagic

    including good looks of pairs resting on the water.

    Shearwaters - Procellariidae

    Pink-footed Shearwater (Puffinus creatopus) Vulnerable: Three observed further out resting on

    the water with Sooty Shearwaters.

    Sooty Shearwater (Puffinus griseus) Near threatened: Hundreds observed on the pelagic

    offshore.

    Diving-Petrels - Pelecanoididae

    Peruvian Diving-Petrel (Pelecanoides garnotti) Endangered: Six observed in flight on the

    pelagic some offering good views. Flight alcid-like.

    Storm-Petrels - Hydrobatidae

    Wilson’s Storm-Petrel (Oceanites oceanicus): About five were seen on the way out of Callao

    harbor during the pelagic Nov 13th.

    Elliot’s (White-vented) Storm-Petrel (Oceanites gracilis) Data deficient: Common on the

    pelagic with 100’s seen and a few attracted to chum around the boat offering close views.

    Boobies - Sulidae

    Peruvian Booby (Sula variegata): Common along the coast; thousands of breeding pairs

    observed at Isla Palomino.

    Cormorants - Phalacrocoracidae

    Neotropic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus): Common along the coast: 100’s at Pantanos

    de Villa, and during the pelagic trip.

    Red-legged Cormorant (Phalacrocorax gaimardi) Near threatened: This striking cormorant is a

    common breeder on Isla Palomino.

    Guanay Cormorant (Phalacrocorax bougainvillii) Near-threatened: Twenty were seen on Isla

    Palomino off of the Lima coast.

    Pelicans - Pelecanidae

    Peruvian Pelican (Pelecanus thagus) Near threatened: Common along the coast.

    Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis): One observed during the pelagic heading out of Callao

    harbor. It was noticeably smaller in flight and more silvery above than Peruvian Pelican.

    Herons - Ardeidae

    Least Bittern (Ixobrychus exilis): One was perched in plain view at the edge of a pond only 20

    meters away at Pantanos de Villa.

    Fasciated Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma fasciatum): Singles were observed fishing from boulders on

    the Huallaga River en route to and from Tingo Maria.

    Great Egret (Ardea alba): Two at Pantanos de Villa.

    Snowy Egret (Egretta thula): Fifteen at Pantanos de Villa and a few around the Huallaga River,

    Tingo Maria.

    Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea): Three at Pantanos de Villa.

    Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis): Common and widespread in open areas with livestock at lower

    elevations.

    Striated Heron (Butorides striata): One at Pantanos de Villa and another at Tingo Maria.

    Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax): Widespread – 20 were at Pantanos de

    Villa; six at Lago Junin and three singles seen at Ticlio Bog and Callao harbor.

    Ibises - Threskiornithidae

    Puna Ibis (Plegadis ridgwayi): Common at Pantanos de Villa Nov 1st and 100’s in the puna

    grasslands surrounding Lago Junin Nov 4th.

    Black-faced (Andean) Ibis (Theristicus melanopis branickii): Beautiful looks of three of the

    branickii race feeding in Puna grasslands at the east end of Lago Junin Nov 4th.

    New World Vultures - Cathartidae

    Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus): Common and widespread on both slopes.

    Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura): Common and widespread.

    Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus) Near threatened: Great looks on an adult circling sometimes

    below eye level, at the gorge and bridge area, Santa Eulalia valley.

    Osprey - Pandionidae

    Osprey (Pandion haliaetus): One observed at Pantanos de Villa.

    Hawks - Accipitridae

    Hook-billed Kite (Chondrohierax uncinatus): One observed at Pantanos de Villa. One observed

    circling over Villa Jennifer on the 7th, and 9th; two were circling high over Tingo Maria National

    Park on the 8th.

    Swallow-tailed Kite (Elanoides forficatus): One seen in the valley below Carpish Pass, four were

    circling above Villa Jennifer on the 7th and a flock of 15 on the 10th.

    Double-toothed Kite (Harpagus bidentatus): Likely the same individual was seen on the 7th, 8th

    and 10th at the Villa Jennifer grounds. This bird was relatively tame allowing close approach.

    Plumbeous Kite (Ictinia plumbea): A small flock observed soaring over Villa Jennifer on all

    days with a high of 10 seen on the 8th.

    Sharp-shinned (Plain-breasted) Hawk (Accipiter striatus ventralis): One soaring bird briefly

    seen at Carpish Pass.

    Roadside Hawk (Rupornis magnirostris): Singles observed at Carpish Pass on the 5th and 6th, and

    en route to Tingo Maria on the 7th.

    Harris’s Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus): Three were present at the Pantanos de Villa marsh.

    Variable Hawk (Geranoaetus polyosoma): Four of the Puna race were observed in the Lago

    Junin area on Nov 4th and two en route to Tarma on the 11th and en route to Ticlio Bog on Nov

    12th.

    Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle (Geranoaetus melanoleucus): Fairly common: one at the upper

    Santa Eulalia Valley; eight were circling above Hacienda Santa Cruz on the 5th, and four there on

    the 10th; two were observed circling high at Lomas de Lachay.

    Sunbitterns - Eurypygidae

    Sunbittern (Eurpyga helias): A pair observed from the bridge over the stream at the oilbird

    caves. Heard calling and watched in flight displaying beautiful rufous and black “eyes” of wings

    surrounded by yellow.

    Rails - Rallidae

    Plumbeous Rail (Pardirallus sanguinolentus): Two observed at Pantanos de Villa including full

    scope views of one standing in the open. Three were along the shores of Lago Junin on the 4th.

    Common Gallinule (Gallinula galeata): Common at Pantanos de Villa; several seen at Lago

    Junin.

    Giant Coot (Fulica gigantea): One with a White-tufted Grebe at Cerro de Pasco pass on the 11th

    and five seen at Ticlio Bog on the 11th.

    Slate-colored (Andean) Coot (Fulica ardesiaca): Common at coastal and altiplano marshes.

    Limpkins - Aramidae

    Limpkin (Aramus guarauna): Heard calling at the Villa Jennifer grounds on Nov 8th and 9th, and

    great looks of a perched bird while having breakfast on the 10th.

    Thick-Knees - Burhinidae

    Peruvian Thick-knee (Burhinus superciliaris): A pair was watched through the scope at

    Pantanos de Villa and a pair with two chicks was along the entrance road to Lomas de Lachay.

    Avocets - Recurvirostridae

    Black-necked Stilt (Himantopus mexicanus mexicanus): Two were at Pantanos de Villa on the

    1st.

    Oystercatchers - Haematopodidae

    American Oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus): Three were at the sand beach at Pantanos de

    Villa on the 1st and two were observed on Isla Palomino on the 13th.

    Blackish Oystercatcher (Haematopus ater): One foraging on the rocks at the Isla Palomino

    seabird colony on the 13th.

    Plovers - Charadriidae

    Andean Lapwing (Vanellus resplendens): Common in the altiplano: two were at Ticlio Bog on

    the 2nd, dozens were in the grasslands surrounding Lago Junin on the 4th and 10 were seen at the

    Cerro de Pasco pass.

    Seedsnipes - Thinocoridae

    Rufous-bellied Seedsnipe (Attagis gayi): A pair flushed from a low hill adjacent Ticlio Bog on

    the 12th was observed by a few lucky participants.

    Grey-breasted Seedsnipe (Thinocorus orbignyianus): A pair was flushed in the

    Marcapomacocha Bog area.

    Least Seedsnipe (Thinocorus rumicivorus): Common at Lomas de Lachay with about 20 seen, a

    few were observed carrying out flight displays and calling from rock perches.

    Sandpipers - Scolopacidae

    Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius): Three were at Pantanos de Villa, one at Lago Junin on

    the 4th and one at Callao harbor on the 13th.

    Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca): A single bird was at the ponds at the Cerro de Pasco

    pass area on the 11th.

    Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes): Ten were foraging at the marsh edge at Pantanos de Villa

    and one was at the ponds at the Cerro de Pasco pass area on the 11th.

    Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus): Two hundred were at the beach at Pantanos de Villa on Nov

    1st.

    Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres): Two were seen on the jetty at Callao harbor.

    Sanderling (Calidris alba): Two were running along the beach at Pantanos de Villa Nov 1st.

    Baird’s Sandpiper (Calidris bairdii): Two were at the edge of a small pond near Lago Junin

    Nov 4th.

    Least Sandpiper (Calidris minutilla): Five at the edge of the beach pond at Pantanos de Villa

    Nov 1st.

    Puna Snipe (Gallinago andina): Two flushed from Marcapomacocha Bog area on the 3rd and two

    I the Ticlio Bog area on the 12th.

    Wilson’s Phalarope (Phalaropus tricolor): Ten were seen in a couple of small flocks at Lago

    Junin Nov 4th.

    Skuas - Stercorariidae

    Chilean Skua (Stercorarius chilensis): Three were observed on the pelagic trip, the first one seen

    in Callao harbor while cruising out.

    Gulls - Laridae

    Andean Gull (Chroicocephalus serranus): Fairly common at high Andean lakes and marshes.

    Gray-hooded Gull (Chroicocephalus cirrocephalus): A few breeding plumaged birds were

    flying around Pantanos de Villa.

    Gray Gull (Leucophaeus modestus): A first cycle bird was observed with other gulls at the beach

    area, Pantanos de Villa.

    Franklin’s Gull (Leucophaeus pipixcan): Common along the coast: hundreds at Pantanos de

    Villa and Callao harbor.

    Belcher’s (Band-tailed) Gull (Larus belcheri): Common along the coast.

    Kelp Gull (Larus dominicanus): A few were observed at Pantanos de Villa, and many were

    observed on the pelagic.

    Inca Tern (Larosterna inca): Hundreds observed including close views of several perched at

    Callao harbor, during the pelagic trip, and on the breeding cliffs at Isla Palomino Nov 13th.

    Common Tern (Sterna hirundo): A Sterna tern flying over the boat during the pelagic Nov 13th

    was identified as this species.

    Royal Tern (Thalasseus maximus): One was observed flying amongst the Elegant Terns at

    Pantanos de Villa.

    Elegant Tern (Thalasseus elegans): Over 50 seen along the beach at Pantanos de Villa Nov 1st

    and five was foraging over Callao harbor Nov 13th.

    Sandwich Tern (Thalasseus sandvicensis): One was observed at Callao harbor during the pelagic

    trip Nov 13th.

    Black Skimmer (Rhynchops niger): Two along the beach at Pantanos de Villa Nov 1st.

    Pigeons - Columbidae

    Rock Pigeon (Columba livia): Common and widespread in towns and villages.

    Spot-winged Pigeon (Patagioenas maculosa): A few observed at Santa Eulalia valley on Nov

    2nd; up to 10 were at the Hacienda La Florida on the 3rd and two were on the 4th.

    Band-tailed Pigeon (Patagioenas fasciata): One seen flying by TP along the Paty trail Nov 6th

    and a flock of 10 were observed at Carpish Pass on Nov 7th.

    Plumbeous Pigeon (Patagioenas plumbea): One observed by TP flying down from a tree at

    Tingo Maria National Park.

    Plain-breasted Ground-Dove (Columbina minuta): One observed on the grounds of Hacienda

    Santa Cruz, Huanuco on the 11th.

    Ruddy Ground-Dove (Columbina talpacoti): A couple of pairs seen daily on the grounds of

    Villa Jennifer.

    Croaking Ground-Dove (Columbina cruziana): Fairly common along the coast with a

    distinctive call; observed in the Santa Eulalia valley on the 1st and 2nd; the grounds of Hacienda

    Santa Cruz and a high of 60 was observed at Lomas de Lachay.

    Bare-faced Ground-Dove (Metriopelia ceciliae): A large flock of 50 was flushed from the

    roadside middle Santa Eulalia valley; three were feeding on the grounds of Hacienda Santa Cruz

    and a two were at Lomas de Lachay.

    Black-winged Ground-Dove (Metriopelia melanoptera): Two pairs were seen in the town of

    Ondores and two in the altiplano en route to Tarma on the 11th.

    White-tipped Dove (Leptotila verreauxi): One at Hacienda Santa Cruz on the 11th.

    Grey-fronted Ground-Dove (Leptotila rufaxilla): One or two were seen each day at Villa

    Jennifer grounds.

    West Peruvian Dove (Zenaida meloda): Common and widespread in towns and villages.

    Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata): Common and widespread in towns and villages.

    Cuckoos - Cuculidae

    Squirrel Cuckoo (Piaya cayana): Singles observed at Villa Jennifer and Tingo Maria National

    Park Nov 7-9th.

    Smooth-billed Ani (Crotophaga ani): A few seen at the grounds of Hacienda Santa Cruz – five

    on Nov 5th and 10th, and 10 on the 11th.

    Groove-billed Ani (Crotophaga sulcirostris): A pair was at the lower Santa Eulalia valley on

    Nov 1st and a pair was observed at Lomas de Lachay on the 14th.

    Owls - Strigidae

    *Tropical Screech-Owl (Megascops choliba): One or two heard nightly on the Villa Jennifer

    grounds.

    Band-bellied Owl (Pulsastrix melanota): Heard daily at Villa Jennifer and excellent looks of a

    calling pair perched in cecropias were had on the 7th.

    *Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus): One heard at dusk from on the Hacienda La Florida

    grounds on the 11th.

    Peruvian Pygmy-Owl (Glaucidium peruanum): One heard (seen by PJ) at the upper Santa

    Eulalia valley on the Nov 2nd.

    Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia): A pair was observed at Pantanos de Villa on Nov 1st.

    Oilbirds - Steatornithidae

    Oilbird (Steatornsis caripensis): Several observed and many eerily calling during our visit to the

    Oilbird caves at Tingo Maria NP Nov 7th.

    Swifts - Apodidae

    Chestnut-collared Swift (Streptoprocne rutila): A small flock of 10 observed foraging over

    Hacienda Santa Cruz on the 6th.

    White-collared Swift (Streptoprocne zonaris): A flock of around 150 foraging high above

    Hacienda Santa Cruz on the 11th.

    Andean Swift (Aeronautes andecolus): Two observed at the gorge/bridge area upper Santa

    Eulalia valley on the 2nd.

    where some were observed going to and from the palms.

    Hummingbirds - Trochilidae

    Rufous-breasted Hermit (Glaucis hirsutus): One visiting flowers at the Villa Jennifer grounds

    on the 10th.

    White-bearded Hermit (Phaethornis hispidus): A dead individual in good condition was found

    on the parking lot at Villa Jennifer on the 10th.

    (Eastern) Long-tailed Hermit (Phaethornis (superciliosus) longirostris): One along the trail at

    Tingo Maria National Park on the 8th.

    Reddish Hermit (Phaethornis ruber): A single observed along the river at Tingo Maria National

    Park both days we visited the park. One watched briefly bathing on the 8th.

    Black-throated Mango (Anthracothorax nigricollis): A female was perched on top of a tree at

    the Villa Jennifer gardens on the 10th.

    Amethyst-throated Sunangel (Heliangelus amethysticollis): Observed daily at Carpish Pass and

    Paty trail with four seen Nov 5, a single on the 6th, two on the 7th and 10th.

    Green-tailed Trainbearer (Lesbia nuna): A male and female observed several times Nov 3rd in

    the gardens at our hacienda outside Tarma.

    Black-tailed Trainbearer (Lesbia victoriae): A male observed at close range at our

    accommodation outside Tarma on Nov 12th.

    Bronze-tailed Comet (Polyonymus caroli) ENDEMIC: Good looks were obtained in the Santa

    Eulalia valley on Nov 2 with four seen.

    Black-breasted Hillstar (Oreotrochilus melanogaster): Some of the group had great looks at this

    dazzling hummer, feeding on orange flowers at the Mirador at Lago Junin.

    Tyrian Metaltail (Metallura tyrianthina): A male was seen along Carpish Pass Nov 5th and 7th.

    Black Metaltail (Metallura phoebe) ENDEMIC: This striking silky black endemic was observed

    in our Hacienda grounds, Tarma Nov 3rd, 4th and 12th.

    Olivaceous Thornbill (Chalcostigma olivaceum): One was observed by TP flying past at

    Marcapomacocha Nov 3rd.

    Collared Inca (Coeligena torquata): One or two observed on all days visiting Carpish Pass.

    Giant Hummingbird (Patagona gigas): Observed daily in the gardens of our accommodation in

    Tarma; a few were also seen along the Central Highway during a roadside stop on the 11th.

    Purple-collared Woodstar (Myrtis fanny): Four females-type observed at upper Santa Eulalia

    valley Nov 2nd and two were at Lomas de Lachay on the 14th.

    Oasis Hummingbird (Rhodopsis vesper): A female was observed at the Santa Eulalia valley on

    the 2nd and two were at Lomas de Lachay on the 14th.

    Peruvian Sheartail (Thaumastura cora): One female feeding on flowers at the guard shack and

    entrance to Lomas de Lachay Nov 14th.

    Fork-tailed Woodnymph (Thalurania furcata): A male was in the gardens of Villa Jennifer on

    the 10th.

    White-bellied Hummingbird (Amazilia chionogaster): A couple seen visiting the gardens of

    Hacienda Santa Cruz on Nov 10th and 11th.

    Golden-tailed Sapphire (Chrysuronia oenone): A female was observed briefly perched in the

    Villa Jennifer gardens on the 7th.

    Amazilia Hummingbird (Amazilia amazilia): About 10 was seen in and around Lima on Nov 1st

    and two in the Lower Santa Eulalia valley the following day.

    Gilded Barbet (Capito auratus): Three observed at Villa Jennifer on the 8th, one on the 9th, and a

    pair on the 10th.

    Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan (Andigena hypoglauca) Near Threatened: Observed by PJ at

    Carpish Pass on the 5th and heard by the group on the 6th.

    Chestnut-eared Aracari (Pteroglossus castanotis): Small groups of up to five were observed at

    Villa Jennifer on the 7th, 8th and 10th.

    Woodpeckers - Picidae

    Lafresnaye’s Piculet (Picumnus lafresnayi): One observed by TP in a bird flock at Tingo Maria

    National Park on Nov 9th.

    Yellow-tufted Woodpecker (Melanerpes cruentatus): One or two observed daily at Villa

    Jennifer Nov 7-10th.

    Little Woodpecker (Veniliornis passerinus): Singles were observed at Villa Jennifer on the 7th

    and 8th.

    Bar-bellied Woodpecker (Veniliornis nigriceps): One heard and observed in flight back and

    forth over the trail Carpish Pass November 7th.

    Crimson-mantled Woodpecker (Colaptes rivolii): This pretty woodpecker was observed along

    the Paty Trail on Nov 6th.

    Black-necked Woodpecker (Colaptes atricollis) ENDEMIC: Good looks were obtained of this

    local woodpecker with four seen at Santa Eulalia valley on Nov 2nd.

    Andean Flicker (Colaptes rupicola): Common in the puna grasslands – a high of 40 was

    estimated in the Lago Junin area on Nov 4th. The workings of this woodpecker were prominently

    displayed on the adobe dwellings around Lago Junin.

    Lineated Woodpecker (Dryocopus lineatus): One observed at Villa Jennifer on Nov 7th.

    Falcons - Falconidae

    Black Caracara (Daptrius ater): One flying overhead Villa Jennifer grounds on the 7th; four seen

    in over flight on the 4th.

    Mountain Caracara (Phalcoboenus megalopterus): Fairly common in the altiplano and observed

    on all days visiting this habitat. A high of ten observed in the Lago Junin area on the 4th.

    American Kestrel (Falco sparverius): Widespread and fairly common especially on the west

    slope including within Lima.

    Merlin (Falco columbarius): One observed by PJ on the way to Lomas de Lachay.

    Aplomado Falcon (Falco femoralis): Beautiful looks of this falcon perched and in flight at the

    Mirador at Lago Junin; two were seen at La Quinua on the 11th.

    Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus): One overhead at lower Santa Eulalia valley on the 1st and

    one at Lomas de Lachay on the 11th.

    Parrots - Psittacidae

    Andean Parakeet (Bolborhynchus orbygnesius): A flock of 10 flew by while birding the scrub at

    upper Santa Eulalia valley.

    Blue-headed Parrot (Pionus menstruus): Fairly common at the grounds of Villa Jennifer - with

    many seen flying over daily, Nov 8-10th.

    Scaly-naped Parrot (Amazona mercenarius): A flock of 10 was observed in flight and perched at

    the beginning of the Paty Trail Nov 6th.

    Blue-winged Parrotlet (Forpus xanthopterygius): Great looks of a pair perched on a wire near

    Villa Jennifer on the 7th.

    Pacific Parrotlet (Forpus coelestis): Beautiful views of a perched bird in the lower Santa Eulalia

    valley Nov 2.

    Blue-headed Macaw (Primolius couloni) Vulnerable: A pair was seen by LK from Villa

    Jennifer; on the 7th; scope views of two pairs perched on the hillside was obtained on the 8th, and

    SH had this species at Villa Jennifer on the 10th.

    Scarlet-fronted Parakeet (Psittacara wagleri): This species is introduced to the Lima area;

    small numbers were heard and seen in flight in Lima on the 1st, 12th and 13th.

    White-eyed Parakeet (Psittacara leucophthalmus): Common at Villa Jennifer.

    Antbirds - Thamnophilidae

    Great Antshrike (Taraba major): A pair was foraging together at Villa Jennifer on the 7th and

    another heard the 10th.

    Plain-winged Antshrike (Thamnophilus schistaceus): Heard at Villa Jennifer on the 7th and

    singles observed at Tingo Maria National Park on the 8th and 9th.

    Pygmy Antwren (Myrmotherula brachyura): One was seen by TP at the entrance track to the

    oilbird caves on the 7th.

    Dot-winged Antwren (Microrhopias quixensis): A pair observed in a bird flock Tingo Maria

    National Park on the 9th.

    Spot-winged Antbird (Schistocichla leucostigma): One observed by TP along the river at Tingo

    Maria NP Nov 9th.

    Antpittas - Formicariidae

    Stripe-headed Antpitta (Grallaria andicolus) near ENDEMIC: Great looks of one calling and

    then hopping at the polylepis forest at La Quinua on the 11th.

    *Bay Antpitta (Grallaria capitalis) ENDEMIC: Heard at the Paty trailhead on the 5th, 6th and

    10th, briefly seen flying across the path by SH on Nov 6th.

    Tapaculos - Rhinocryptidae

    *Large-footed Tapaculo (Scytalopus macropus) ENDEMIC: One heard along the Paty trail on

    the 6th.

    Tschudi’s Tapaculo (Scytalopus acutirostris) ENDEMIC: This endemic is fairly common at

    Carpish Pass: a few heard along the Carpish tunnel track on the 5th, 7th and 10 with great views of

    a couple only meters away on the 5th and a single on Nov 7th.

    Coastal Miner (Geositta peruviana) ENDEMIC: Common at Lomas de Lachay with

    approximately 20 seen on the 14th.

    Common Miner (Geositta cunicularia): Fairly common in the puna grasslands with a dozen in

    the Lago Junin area Nov 4th.

    Dark-winged Miner (Geositta saxicolina) ENDEMIC: Excellent views of three in the Lago

    Junin area on the 4th; six were seen at the pass area on the 11th.

    National Park on the 9th.

    Plain-brown Woodcreeper (Dendrocincla fuliginosa): One along the track to the oilbird caves

    Tingo Maria National Park on the 7th.

    Streaked Tuftedcheek (Pseudocolaptes boissonneautii): Two observed along the Paty Trail on

    Nov 6th.

    Plain Xenops (Xenops minutus): One observed by TP in Tingo Maria National Park on the 8th.

    Pale-legged Hornero (Furnarius leucopus): Heard daily at Villa Jennifer and one seen at close

    range foraging in the open on the 8th.

    Wren-like Rushbird (Phleocryptes melanops): About 10 were at the Pantanos de Villa marshes

    on Nov 1st, also heard at Lago Junin on the 4th.

    Creamy-winged (Bar-winged) Cinclodes (Cinclodes albiventris): A few observed in the puna

    highlands at Marcapomacocha, and the pass area. Common along the creeks in the Lago Junin

    area with up to 30 estimated on the 4th.

    White-bellied Cinclodes (Cinclodes palliatus) ENDEMIC Critically Endangered: Two of this

    declining species was observed at Ticlio Bog on the 2nd and another at Marcapomacocha bog on

    the 3rd. On the 12th we watched this bird hopping at Ticlio Bog during a snow flurry. Birdlife

    International estimates less than 300 adults remaining.

    Pearled Treerunner (Margarornis squamiger): Two observed in a bird flock at the Carpish Pass

    trail on Nov 5th.

    Streaked Tit-Spinetail (Leptasthenura striata): One nice looks at the upper Santa Eulalia valley

    on Nov 2nd.

    Rusty-crowned Tit-Spinetail (Leptasthenura pileata) ENDEMIC: Four observed (some at close

    range) above the bridge Santa Eulalia valley on the 2nd.

    Canyon Canastero (Asthenes pudibunda): Scope looks of a pair at Santa Eulalia valley

    November 2nd.

    Streak-throated Canastero (Asthenes humilis): Two foraging birds were observed en route to

    Marcapomacocha Bog on the 3rd.

    Streak-backed Canastero (Asthenes wyattii): Nice views of one perched on a fence post near

    Lago Junin Nov 11th.

    Baron’s Spinetail (Cranioleuca baroni) ENDEMIC: Two observed at La Quinua during a

    roadside stop on the 4th and four observed on the 11th at La Quinua.

    Dark-breasted Spinetail (Synallaxis albigularis): Nice looks obtained of a bird taped in at Villa

    Jennifer on the 8th and heard the 9th and 10th.

    Rufous Spinetail (Synallaxis unirufa): Excellent looks of a bird at Carpish Pass on 5th and

    another observed on the 7th also a few heard on the 10th and along the Paty Trail n the 6th.

    Tyrant Flycatchers - Tyrannidae

    Southern Beardless Tyrannulet (Camptostoma obsoletum): Five at lower Santa Eulalia valley

    on the 1st and two the following day.

    White-banded Tyrannulet (Mecocerculus stictopterus): Pairs were seen along the Carpish

    Tunnel track on the 5th and 7th and by PJ on the 10th.

    Pied-crested Tit-Tyrant (Anairetes reguloides): Four observed in the lower Santa Eulalia valley

    on the 1st and two on the 2nd.

    Yellow-billed Tit-Tyrant (Anairetes flavirostris): One in the lower Santa Eulalia valley on the

    1st and two past the bridge further up the valley on the 2nd.

    Tufted Tit-Tyrant (Anairetes parulus): One at the grounds of Hacienda La Florida on the 4th;

    four in the polylepis forest of La Quinua on the 11th, and two at the former location on the 12th.

    Torrent Tyrannulet (Serpophaga cinerea): Singles observed along the Huallaga River by PJ on

    Marble-faced Bristle-Tyrant (Phylloscartes ophthalmicus): A single bird was seen at Tingo

    Maria National Park on the 9th.

    Peruvian Tyrannulet (Zimmerius viridiflavus) ENDEMIC: Scope views of one perched up on a

    tangle along the Paty trail on the 6th.

    Many-colored Rush-Tyrant (Tachuris rubrigastra): Nice looks at this gem at Pantanos de Villa

    where three were seen.

    Rufous-headed Pygmy-Tyrant (Pseudotriccus ruficeps): Excellent looks at a calling bird at the

    Carpish Tunnel on the 5th.

    Short-tailed Pygmy-Tyrant (Myiornis ecaudatus): Excellent looks of one a few meters away on

    the grounds of Villa Jennifer on the 8th.

    Common Tody-Flycatcher (Todirostrum cinereum): One observed at a mid-elevation roadside

    stop between Tingo Maria and Carpish tunnel on the 10th.

    Yellow-browed Tody-Flycatcher (Todirostrum chrysocrotaphum): One heard calling at Tingo

    Maria National Park on the 8th and one seen by PJ the following day.

    8th.

    Yellow-margined Flycatcher (Tolmomyias assimilis): One at Tingo Maria National Park on the

    8th.

    Cinnamon Flycatcher (Pyrrhomyias cinnamomeus): Four along the Carpish Pass track on the

    5th; two along the Paty trail on the 6th; and at Carpish Pass on the 7th.

    Cliff Flycatcher (Hirundinea ferruginea): A pair was observed foraging along the cliffs at the

    Gorge de Rio Chin on the 10th.

    Western Wood-Pewee (Contopus sordidulus): A wood-pewee that was observed at upper Santa

    Eulalia valley on Nov 1st was likely this species.

    Black Phoebe (Sayornis nigricans): One or two seen almost daily along the Huallaga River

    between the 3rd and the 10th.

    Vermillion Flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus): Fairly common: several seen in the Lima area,

    lower Santa Eulalia valley, and Lomas de Lachay.

    Andean Negrito (Lessonia oreas): Common in the surrounding grasslands around Lago Junin,

    four seen at the Cerro de Pasco wetlands on the 11th.

    Taczanowski’s Ground Tyrant (Muscisaxicola griseus): One in the grasslands en route to

    Marcapomacocha on the 3rd; and two in the puna surrounding Ticlio Bog on the 12th.

    Rufous-naped Ground-Tyrant (Muscisaxicola rufivertex): Four in the puna grasslands

    surrounding Lago Junin on the 4th.

    Puna Ground Tyrant (Muscisaxicola juninensis): One on a rocky slope en route to

    Marcapomacocha on the 3rd; and one at Ticlio Bog on the 12th.

    White-fronted Ground-Tyrant (Muscisaxicola albifrons): Six at Marcapomacocha Bog on the

    3rd and two at the Ticlio Bog on the 12th.

    Masked Tityra (Tityra semifasciata): One observed by TP perched on top of a tree at Villa

    Jennifer during breakfast.

    Barred Becard (Pachyramphus versicolor): A pair at Carpish Pass in aboard flock on Nov 5th

    and one along the Paty Trail on the 6th.

    White-winged Becard (Pachyramphus polychopterus): On the Villa Jennifer grounds a female

    was observed on the 9th and a male on the 10th.

    Jays - Corvidae

    White-collared Jay (Cyanolyca viridicyanus): One by PJ along the road above the Paty trail on

    the 5th and one observed at the clearing/football pitch at the Paty trailhead on the 6th.

    Violaceous Jay (Cyanocorax violaceus): Several seen at Villa Jennifer on the 7th and 8th and one

    on the 10th.

    Swallows - Hirundinidae

    Blue-and-White Swallow (Pygochelidon cyanoleuca): Common and widespread throughout the

    west, Andes east slope.

    Brown-bellied Swallow (Orochelidon murina): Five observed foraging along the river at La

    Quinua on Nov 11th.

    Andean Swallow (Orochelidon andecola): Eight seen en route to Marcapomacocha from Tarma

    on the 3rd.

    White-banded Swallow (Atticora fasciata): Ten observed foraging along the Huallaga River en

    route to Tingo Maria on Nov 7th.

    Thrush-like Wren (Campylorhynchus turdinus): A family group of five observed around a

    streetlight at the entrance to the oilbird caves on the 7th and one at Villa Jennifer on the 8th by TP.

    Scaly-breasted (S. Nightingale) Wren (Microcerculus marginatus): One heard and seen along

    the river Tingo Maria National Park on the 9th.

    *Chestnut-breasted Wren (Cyphorhinus thoracicus): Two heard singing along the Paty Trail on

    the 6th with one taped in to within a foot of the group tough it remained unseen!

    House Wren (Troglodytes aedon): Fairly common and widespread – observed and heard at a

    number of localities.

    Mountain Wren (Troglodytes solstitialis): Heard along the Paty trail on the 6th and one seen at

    Carpish Pass on the 7th.

    Fasciated Wren (Campylorhynchus fasciatus): Fairly common around Hacienda Santa Cruz with

    a pair observed on the 5th and small family groups of 4-5 seen on the 7th, 10th and 11th.

    one seen on the 5th and several more heard along with two seen along the Paty trail on the 6th.

    White-capped Dipper (Cinclus leucocephalus): Good looks of one at the upper Santa Eulalia

    valley on the 2nd and two on rocks at Gorge de Rio Chin.

    Thrushes - Turdidae

    Swainson’s Thrush (Catharus ustulatus): One at Tingo Maria National Park on the 8th and three

    on the 9th.

    White-eared Solitaire (Entomodestes leucotis): Several heard at Carpish and Paty trails but

    frustrating to see; brief looks of one in flight and for some participants perched on the 6th.

    Hauxwell’s Thrush (Turdus hauxwelli): One came to a fruiting tree at Villa Jennifer on the 10th.

    The more rufescent coloration compared to Black-billed Thrush is obvious.

    Black-billed Thrush (Turdus ignobilis): Common in the Tingo Maria area – several seen daily at

    Villa Jennifer.

    Great Thrush (Turdus fuscater): Fairly common at higher elevations such as at Carpish Pass.

    Chiguanco Thrush (Turdus chiguanco): Fairly common at higher elevations on the west slope.

    Long-tailed Mockingbird (Mimus longicaudatus): Common along the coast and lower Santa

    Eulalia valley.

    Pipits - Motacillidae

    Yellowish Pipit (Anthus lutescens): Fairly common at Lomas de Lachay with about 10 seen.

    Short-billed Pipit (Anthus furcatus): Good views of one on the ground at the east end of Lago

    Junin.

    Wood Warbler - Parulidae

    Masked Yellowthroat (Geothlypis aequinoctialis auricularis): Two were observed at Lomas de

    Lachay on the 14th.

    Citrine Warbler (Myiothlypis luteoviridis): One along the Paty Trail on the 6th and three at

    Carpish Pass on the 7th.

    Buff-rumped Warbler (Myiothlypis fulvicauda): Two observed along the stream at Tingo Maria

    National Park on Nov 8th and 9th.

    Golden-bellied Warbler (Myiothlypis chrysogaster): Three were seen in Tingo Maria National

    Park Nov 9th.

    Canada Warbler (Cardellina canadensis): One was observed at Tingo Maria National Park on

    Nov 9th.

    Spectacled Redstart (Myioborus melanocephalus): Several observed at Carpish Pass and the

    Paty trail Nov 6-8 and observed by PJ at Carpish Pass on the 10th.

    Tanagers - Thraupidae

    Magpie Tanager (Cissopis leverianus): One observed by PJ at the Oilbird Caves on the 7th.

    Black-capped Hemispingus (Hemispingus atropileus): One observed at Carpish Pass on the 5th

    and two on the 10th.

    Superciliared Hemispingus (Hemispingus superciliaris) Two at the Carpish Pass tunnel area on

    the 5th.

    Rufous-chested Tanager (Thlypopsis ornata): Two observed at Carpish Pass on the 5th and 6th,

    and one at the trailhead of Paty trail.

    Yellow-crested Tanager (Tachyphonus rufiventer): One was observed in a bird flock along the

    river trail Tingo Maria National Park on the 9th.

    Black-bellied (Huallaga) Tanager (Ramphocelus melanogaster) ENDEMIC: This endemic was

    fairly common on the Villa Jennifer grounds.

    Silver-beaked Tanager (Ramphocelus carbo): Common in the Tingo Maria area.

    Lacrimose Mountain-Tanager (Anisognathus lacrymosus): One observed by PJ at Carpish

    Tunnel area on the 5th, a group of three were seen along the Carpish trail on the 7th and two on the

    10th.

    Blue-winged Mountain-Tanager (Anisognathus somptuosus): Two were along the Paty trail on

    the 6th.

    Buff-breasted Mountain Tanager (Dubusia taeniata): One was seen by PJ along the Paty trail

    on the 6th and two were along the Carpish trail on the 7th.

    Chestnut-bellied Mountain Tanager (Dubusia castaneoventris): Two were at the Carpish

    Tunnel area on the 5th and three on the 7th.

    Blue-and-Yellow Tanager (Pipraeidea bonariensis): Fairly common in the Santa Eulalia valley

    with three on the 1st, five above the bridge on the 2nd; and two at Carpish Pass on the 3rd and 4th.

    Blue-grey Tanager (Thraupis episcopus): Common in the Tingo Maria area.

    Palm Tanager (Thraupis palmarum): Common in the Tingo Maria area.

    Blue-capped Tanager (Thraupis cyanocephala): One at Carpish Tunnel area by SH on the 5th;

    four along the Paty trail on the 6th and one at Carpish Pass on the 7th.

    Blue-necked Tanager (Tangara cyanicollis): Singles observed at Villa Jennifer on the 8, 9th and

    four on the 10th.

    Yellow-bellied Tanager (Tangara xanthogastra): One observed at Tingo Maria National Park on

    the 8th and two on the 9th.

    Blue-and-Black Tanager (Tangara vassorii): One seen along the Paty trail on the 6th.

    Beryl-spangled Tanager (Tangara nigroviridis): Two along the Paty trail on the 6th.

    Turquoise Tanager (Tangara mexicana): A couple observed at Villa Jennifer and Tingo Maria

    National Park on the 8th, 9th and 10th.

    Paradise Tanager (Tangara chilensis): Two of these gaudy tanagers were at Tingo Maria

    National Park on the 8th and five on the 9th.

    Opal-crowned Tanager (Tangara callophyrs): One on the Villa Jennifer grounds on the 10th.

    Bay-headed Tanager (Tangara gyrola): A single at Tingo Maria National Park on the 9th.

    Flame-faced Tanager (Tangara parzudakii): Three were seen along the Paty trail on the 6th.

    Green-and-Gold Tanager (Tangara schrankii): Two were observed in a flock at Tingo Maria

    National Park on the 8th and 9th.

    Swallow Tanager (Tersina viridis): One at a roadside stop en route to Carpish Pass from Tingo

    Maria.

    Blue Dacnis (Dacnis cayana): Two were observed at the Villa Jennifer grounds on the 8th and

    10th.

    Purple Honeycreeper (Cyanerpes caeruleus): One at Tingo Maria National Park on the 8th, two

    on the 9th in a bird flock and one on the Villa Jennifer grounds on the 10th.

    Green Honeycreeper (Chlorophanes spiza): Two were observed in a bird flock Tingo Maria

    National Park on the 9th.

    Cinereous Conebill (Conirostrum cinereum): One at Santa Eulalia on the 1st and 10 on Nov 2nd.

    Blue-backed Conebill (Conirostrum sitticolor): Two observed at Carpish Pass on Nov 5th and

    another by PJ Nov 10th.

    Giant Conebill (Oreomanes fraseri): One flew in responding to a tape but unfortunately was

    only seen by a few participants.

    Rusty Flowerpiercer (Diglossa sittoides): One by SH on the grounds of our accommodation

    lower Santa Eulalia valley.

    Mustached Flowerpiercer (Diglossa mystacalis): Two at Carpish Pass on the 5th and by PJ on

    the 7th.

    Florida on the 3rd, 4th and 12th (PJ on the 11th).

    Masked Flowerpiercer (Diglossa cyanea): Six were observed along the Paty trail on the 6th.

    Plushcap (Catamblyrhnchus diadema): Great looks of one feeding in the open at the Paty

    trailhead on the 6th.

    Peruvian Sierra-Finch (Phrygilus punensis): Fairly common at Hacienda Santa Cruz where

    watched hopping around the gardens.

    two observed at Lago Junin on the 4th and a single at the Cerro de Pasco pass Nov 11th.

    Band-tailed Sierra-Finch (Phrygilus alaudinus): Good looks were had of two at Lomas de

    Lachay on Nov 14th.

    White-winged Diuca-Finch (Diuca speculifera): Two were observed near Ticlio Bog on the 2nd

    and 10 on Nov 12th; eight were in the vicinity of Marcapomacocha on Nov 3rd.

    Collared Warbling-Finch (Poospiza hispaniolensis): Scope views of a female perched on a

    grass stalk were obtained at Lomas de Lachay Nov 14th.

    Bright-rumped Yellow-Finch (Sicalis uropygialis): Common in the altiplano where several

    large flocks were seen.

    Grassland Yellow-Finch (Sicalis luteola) One singing male was at the Pantanos de Villa

    marshes on Nov 1st and close views of a female perched on the side of the road Lomas de Lachay

    was had on Nov 14th.

    Blue-black Grassquit (Volatinia jacarina): A few observed daily at the Villa Jennifer grounds;

    also in Lima outside our Hotel.

    Chestnut-throated Seedeater (Sporophila telasco): Scope view of a male perched on a grass

    stalk was had at Pantanos de Villa on the 1st.

    Black-and-White Seedeater (Sporophila luctuosa): Two were seen on the grounds of Villa

    Jennifer on the 10th.

    Yellow-bellied Seedeater (Sporophila nigricollis): Six were on the Hacienda Santa Cruz grounds

    on the 5th and one on the 11th.

    Chestnut-bellied (Lesser) Seed-Finch (Sporophila angolensis): Fairly common at Villa

    Jennifer.

    Band-tailed Seedeater (Catamenia analis): Three were observed in the Santa Eulalia valley on

    the 1st and 20 on Nov 2nd. At Lomas de Lachay two were seen on Nov 14th.

    Bananaquit (Coereba flaveola): Heard in Lima on the 1st and two observed at Santa Eulalia on

    Nov 2nd; common at Villa Jennifer and Tingo Maria National Park.

    Grayish Saltator (Saltator coerulescens): Singles were seen on the Villa Jennifer grounds Nov

    7th-8th, and two on the 10th.

    Streaked Saltator (Saltator striatipectus): Singles were observed at Santa Eulalia Gardens Nov

    1st and 2nd.

    Golden-billed Saltator (Saltator aurantiirostris): Observed on the grounds of Hacienda La

    Florida Nov 3-4th with three seen on the 12th.

    Sparrows - Emberizidae

    Orange-billed Sparrow (Arremon aurantiirostris): Good looks of a singing bird along the river

    trail at Tingo Maria National Park on the 9th by TP and LK.

    Tricolored Brush-Finch (Atlapetes tricolor): One observed at the clearing at he beginning of the

    Paty trail.

    Slaty Brush-Finch (Atlapetes schistaceus): Five observed along the Carpish trail on the 7th.

    where approximately five were seen on Nov 5th, 10th and 11th. Up to 50 seen at Lomas de Lachay

    Nov 14th.

    Scrub Blackbird (Dives warszewiczi): Common in the Lima area and 10 seen in the lower Santa

    Eulalia valley on Nov 2. One observed at Hacienda Santa Cruz on Nov 5th.

    Oriole Blackbird (Gymnomystax mexicanus): Two observed at the Hacienda Santa Cruz grounds

    Nov 5 and a single on Nov 10th.

    Shiny Cowbird (Molothrus bonariensis): One seen at Hacienda Santa Cruz on Nov 7th and

    another on the 11th.

    Yellow-rumped Cacique (Cacicus cela): Several seen at Villa Jennifer and Tingo Maria

    National Park Nov 7-10th.

    Mountain Cacique (Cacicus chrysonatus): A flock of eight was seen at the beginning of the Paty

    Trail on Nov 6th.

    Thick-billed Euphonia (Euphonia laniirostris): A female at Villa Jennifer on the 8th a pair on the

    10th, and a couple at Tingo Maria National Park on the 9th.

    White-vented Euphonia (Euphonia minuta): A pair was observed at Villa Jennifer in the

    afternoon of the 7th.

    Purple-throated Euphonia (Euphonia chlorotica): A pair was observed in the morning of the

    10th at Villa Jennifer.

    Thick-billed Siskin (Spinus crassirostris): About 10 of these polylepis associated species was at

    the La Quinua forest on the 11th.

    Hooded Siskin (Spinus magellanicus): Fairly common in the highlands where seen at several

    localities.

    Black Siskin (Spinus atrata): One en route to Marcapomacocha Nov 3rd, 20 around Lago Junin

    the following day and one at La Quinua Nov 11th.

    Old World Sparrows - Passeridae

    House Sparrow (Passer domesticus): A few observed around Lima, Tarma and Junin.

    Squirrel Monkey (Saimiri sciurus): A troop of eight on the 7th and five on the 8th were observed

    on the grounds of Villa Jennifer, Tingo Maria.

    South American Coati (Nasua nasua): One watched climbing down from a tree at Tingo Maria

    National Park on the 9th.

    Northern Viscacha (Lagidium peruanum): One observed by PC on a rocky slope near

    Marcapomacocha.

    South American Sea Lion (Otaria flavescens): Thousands were at Isla Palomino Nov 13th.

    Dusky Dolphin (Lagenorhynchus obscurus): A minimum of 100 estimated on the pelagic Nov

    13th.

    Vicuna (Vicugna vicugna): A few small herds were seen in the puna grasslands en route to Lago

    Junin Nov 4th and a few small herds outside of Tarma en route to Ticlio Nov 11th.
