He was 73. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at The Harvest Bible Chapel, 1215 Lakeshore Rd. W. “Clare was loved by everyone,” said Bill Miller, owner of Century 21 Miller, where MacLean worked along with his daughter, Heather Hisey. The pair were known as ‘Oakville’s dynamic dad and daughter team.’ “He’ll be greatly missed in our organization, and he’ll be greatly missed by the entire real estate community,” Miller said. MacLean leaves behind his wife, June, daughter, Heather, son, Paul, and three grandchildren, Robbie, Leslie and Stephanie. “My father was more than a father to me. He was my business partner, my best friend, my confi- dante,” Heather said through tears yesterday. “He was a man that was full of integrity, and he had a very strong faith.” Heather said she’ll best remember her dad for his unwa- vering faith in God, “his building block to life.” “He was an incredible sup- port. He was the best dad any- body could have, and he just touched so many people’s lives. He was a special man, and he was loved by many.” Heather said more than 100 people dropped by the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital to see her father before he took his last breath Thursday at 5:35 p.m. MacLean, who grew up in Markdale, moved to Oakville after being recruited by a Senior-A baseball team in town. MacLean was a devoted hus- band to his wife June. The couple was married for more than 40 years. “I’ll never forget how much love he showed my mom,” said Heather. “He called her his ‘girl- friend.’ He absolutely adored my mother, and vice versa.” In Oakville, MacLean estab- lished his most successful real estate firm, Bayley-MacLean Real Estate. Most recently, for a cumu- lative period of 16 years, MacLean worked at Century 21 Miller. Known around the office as ‘Mac,’ he was a mentor to many, including sales associate Don Goodale. In fact, Goodale would- n’t be in real estate today if it weren’t for MacLean. He met MacLean while selling cars in Oakville, and was convinced to join the world of real estate. “He was convinced I would do well,” said Goodale. “When I started, he was my mentor. I stuck like glue to Clare for six months. Everywhere he went, I went with him. I learned so much from Clare.” While Goodale has now been with the company for more than a decade, the learning never stopped. “I just learned something about a month ago from Clare,” said Goodale, about plots of land south of Fourth Line. “He was always saying, Don, I can remember this, or I can remem- ber that, and telling me things. God, I’m going to miss that.” The most important thing Goodale learned from MacLean in the early going as a real estate agent was about relationships. “The biggest thing he taught me was how important it was to establish a good relationship with your fellow realtors. The respect, the courtesy. He’s one of the last of a style of real estate agent that doesn’t exist any- more,” Goodale said. “He was a very caring person. It showed with his clients. It showed with his fellow realtors. He was the most generous, cour- teous and caring individual I’ve ever met.” Just as Goodale will remem- ber MacLean as a mentor, so too will Miller. He first broke into the business about 40 years ago at Bayley-MacLean Real Estate. “It was one of the most suc- cessful businesses in real estate ever,” said Miller. “I learned just about every- thing I needed to know about how to treat people, and how to explain fairness to people. “That’s where I really picked up the traits that I needed to have to be successful in real estate, and I learned them from Clare MacLean.” Miller said when it came to fair- ness, MacLean couldn’t be beat. “There wasn’t anyone more fair and ethical in working with others than him. He treated everyone equally, and he was just so giving. There’s been many times when I needed a little help myself, needed some mentoring. Where does the broker go? Well, I go to another broker, and he’s always been there for me. “I’ll never forget him. “Life does have to go on, and we’ll continue, but we’ll never forget Clare,” added Miller. “He’s one of the best.” Clare MacLean was elder statesman in Oakville’s real estate community Clare MacLean Suzuki of Oakville 2219 Wyecroft Road, Oakville, ON L6L 5L7 905-469-2429 • Toll Free 1-866-229-3897 fax 905-469-4562 CONSUMERS SHOULD READ THE FOLLOWING: Vehicles may not be exactly as shown. *MSRP for the 2007 SX-4 with manual transmission (model H3N83N7) / 2007 SWIFT + with manual transmission model H5MS5A7) / 2007 Grand Vitara with manual transmission (model LLX81S7) & 2007 XL7 with automatic transmission (model 6E1D8A7).
