Featuring the Ken Winklepleck Civil War Bullet/Cartridge Collection & the George Kurisky
Sword Collection!
Ken Winklepleck began collecting bullets when he and a friend started hunting for relics
in the late 1980's. At first they hunted near Middletown, Monrovia and Frederick, MD and then moved on to the areas around Harper's Ferry, Charles Town and Shepherdstown, WV.
It was while trying to identify the bullets he found that the passion for all of the differing types of Civil War bullets and other Civil War relics developed. By 2000 he was determined to have one of each bullet in the Mason & McKee Civil War Projectiles Small Arms & Field Artillery reference book. He started buying other hunters collections from Civil War shows and the internet dealers. During this process he found that there were a lot of other bullets besides the ones in M&M so he started collecting the more unusual ones also. By 2015 his collection numbered in the several thousands. His collection also includes buttons, buckles, breast plates and box plates. The majority of the lots below were found near Charles Town WV, Shepherdstown WV, Summit Point WV, Kernstown VA & Winchester VA.
“M&M” below references the number assigned in the Mason and McKee Civil War Projectiles Small Arms & Field Artillery reference book.

George Kurisky was a metallurgical engineer and spent his working career specializing
in stainless steel wire production and applications. He also had a tremendous appreciation for
the craftsmanship and metallurgy associated with edged weapons and began collecting military swords with his first acquisition in 1963. Over the following six decades he assembled an amazing and diverse collection of over 230 swords, most dating from the latter half of the 19th century. George would be happy knowing that other collectors will appreciate his efforts to preserve history.
