Although medical science provides us with statistics, algorithms and guidelines, much of an IR physician’s job still relies on intuition and judgment. In this environment failure, although unwanted, is inevitable. M and M is about failure: how it happens, what can be learned from it and how it can be avoided and overcome in the future. In this half-day symposium, distinguished IR fac- ulty will present a series of clinical case narratives illustrating how IR complications happen and how they can be avoided. Fast-paced M and M vignette sessions will be interspersed with didactic presen- tations on evolving approaches to performance improvement, peer review, and expert lectures on medical-legal and quality assurance issues. Attendees of this symposium will be required to sign a waiver of participation before joining the session. A copy of this waiver may be obtained on the SIR Web site at www.SIRweb.org. Forms will also be available at the meeting, but completion of the form in advance will assure quicker entrance to the session. agement of peripheral arterial disease. Modernconcepts of disease pathophysiology, natural his-tory and epidemiology will be followed by anin-depth discussion of clinical presentation, symp-tomatology and clinical management. Standardand emerging endovascular treatment strategieswill be described and the evidence basis for treat-ment selection will be presented.

Areas of focus include iliofemoral disease as wellas critical limb ischemia. Controversies in revascu-larization will be the focus of expert debate. Inter-nationally renowned authorities will discuss thelatest technology for PAD treatment and sharestrategies for successful practice building.

Objectives—At the end of this session, thelearner should be able to:

1. Discuss the diagnosis and clinical managementof patients with claudication and critical limbischemia including what the interventionalistshould do and what should be referred

2. Describe the peri-procedural medications forpatients undergoing endovascular interventionsfor claudication and critical limb ischemia

3. Discuss the evidence for the current interven-tions in the lower limb ischemia including thefemoropopliteal and tibial vessels

4. Review the latest trials in the superficial femoraland tibial arteries
