EASTER SUNDAY April 1, 2018
He Has Risen
April 1, 2018 2 SAINT BERNARD
In the Gospel, the news of the Resurrection first comes to a seemingly unexpected person-Mary of Magdala. That a women should receive the news first is noteworthy because women were considered to be lower class at this time in history. Entrusting this message to Mary of Magdala demonstrates Jesus’ respect for all peoples. But it also demonstrates Mary’s respect for the social conventions of the time for she immediately goes to Peter to relay the Good News. Mary of Magdala is known as the “Apostle to the Apostles.” In broad terms, the word Apostle means witness to the Resurrection. We will hear from the Apostles first-hand accounts
in Acts of the Apostles which will serve as the First Reading at Mass throughout the Easter Time. These readings not only reflect the early days of the Church, but they also clarify our own role as Christian disciples. We are “to be witnesses of all that Jesus did.” Three people are witnesses to the Resurrection because they found the empty tomb and burial clothes. If you discovered the empty tomb and the remaining burial clothes, would this be enough for you to believe in the Resurrection?

My Dear Friends,
On behalf of the whole Parish Staff, I want to wish all of you and your families a very blessed Easter Season. You and your loved ones will be remembered at all of my Easter Masses.
I ask all of you to be Easter people who are filled with the risen Christ. People filled with joy, knowing that death has been conquered and salvation won. People filled with the knowledge that the suffering of the cross will always be followed by the joy of Easter. People filled with the spirit of love, knowing that good will always win out over evil.
