    Sybase Control Center

    Goal: Use the Web-based Sybase Control Center to connect to the administrative console, where you can perform

    administrative tasks, such as role mapping, server logging, and personalization-key functions.

    Pre-requisites:

    Complete these tutorials in this order:

    Getting Started Tutorial

    Developing Database Mobile Business Objects

    Using Filter By in a Mobile Business Object

    Implementing Personalization Keys

    Implementing Role-based Security

    Unwired Server must be running.

    The Sybase Unified Agent must be running.

    You must be logged in on the machine on which Unwired Server resides to perform administrative tasks.

    Starting the Sybase Unified Agent

    Goal: Start the Sybase Unified Agent if it is not running.

    1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel .2. In the Control Panel, double-clickAdministrative Tools.

    3. In the Administrative Tools window, double-clickServices.

    4. In the Services window, scroll through the list of services and locate Sybase Unified Agent. If it is not running:

    a) Right-clickSybase Unified Agent.

    b) Select Start.

    Connecting to the Web Administration Console

    Goal: Connect to the Sybase Control Center Web administration console to perform administrative tasks for Unwired

    Platform.

    1. Launch Sybase Control Center by selecting Start > Programs > Sybase > Sybase Control Center .

    2. ClickUnwired Platform.

    3. From Unwired Servers, select the server that contains the SUP101 package and log in using the default login user name

    and password combination:

    User Name supAdmin

    Password s3pAdmin

    4. ClickOK.

    5. The General tab allows you to perform these administrative tasks on the Unwired Server:

    Start start the Unwired Server.

    Stop stop the Unwired Server.

    Restart restart the Unwired Server.

    Ping ping the Unwired Server to verify the server state.

    Clean clear the text from the server console window.

    6. On the Properties tab, review the server configuration properties for:

    Host Port

    Secure Port

    Synchronization Port

    Version

    Using Server Logging

    Goal: Review the Unwired Server logs, refresh the log, and search the log.

    1. Under Unwired Servers, click the Log associated with the Unwired Server you are logged in to.

    2. The Details tab allows you to perform these actions:

    Refresh displays the most recent log data collected in the server log file if time has elapsed since you last opened

    the log

    Clean erases the portion of the log file that appears in the window.

    Search allows you to search the current log file.

    Note: Backup files are not searched.

    3. To search the current log file, select from the Search options, then clickGo:

    You can search by:

    Lines select to search by line, then select First or Last from the drop-down list.

    Date select to search by date, then select the start date and end date by clicking on the two calendar icons.

    Level select to search by logging level, then select from these logging levels:

    Debug provides the most detailed log output.

    Info provides information and possible solutions.

    Warn provides warning messages.

    Error in production settings, this option reduces logging impact.

    None disables log output.

    Key Word select to search by key word, then enter the key word.

    4. To save a log setting:

    a) Click the Setting tab.

    b) ClickSave.

    The default location for saved logs is %SUP_HOME%\Servers\UnwiredServer\logs\uep.log .

    Setting Server Logging Level

    Goal: Set the logging level for Unwired Server.

    1. From Unwired Servers, select the server for which to set the logging level.

    2. Click the Log associated with the selected Unwired Server.

    3. ClickSetting.

    4. Select a Log Level. Output verbosity decreases in order starting from Debug.

    Debug provides the most detailed log output.

    Info provides information and possible solutions.

    Warn provides warning messages.

    Error in production settings, this option reduces logging impact.

    None disables log output.

    5. Set the log file size by entering the values for:

    File Max Size enter the maximum file size. The default is 50MB.

    Max Backup Index enter the value for the number of files to back up. The default is 10.

    For example, if File Max Size is 50MB and Max Backup Index is 10, this means that the server preserves 500MB of

    the most recent logging information.

    Setting the Scheduled Refresh and Cache Interval for MobileBusiness Objects

    Goal: Set the refresh and cache interval for mobile business object data.

    1. Click the arrow next to Packages, and then the arrow next to the SUP101 package.

    The tree expands and you see a list of mobile business objects that are currently deployed in the package.

    2. Select the customer mobile business object.

    3. Click the Schedule tab in the right pane.

    4. Click the Cache Interval list and select 1 hour.

    This setting impacts the result of synchronization for the device when a new record is added or updated.

    5. Set the Schedule Repeat options:

    Now, the server automatically refreshes the mobile business object data each hour every day. Use this option to

    improve performance at the time of synchronization.

    6. ClickSave.

    7. Force the refresh of any cached data by clicking the Refresh Cache button.

    The Refresh button refreshes only the screen.

    8. ClickClean to clear the data in the cache.

    Performing Role Mapping

    Goal: Set role mapping at the server or package level.

    You can set roles at the package level or at the server level. If you do not set mapping at the package level, server-level

    mapping is used.

    1. In the left pane, click the SUP101 package name.

    2. In the right pane, click the Mapped Roles tab.

    The package has two roles defined"supervisor" and "employee." Both of those roles are mapped as indicated under

    Physical Roles.

    3. From the Physical Roles list for employee, then select Map Role.

    4. In the Role Mappings window, select SUP Developer.

    5. ClickAdd.6. ClickOK.

    7. From Logical Role, select everybody, then from Physical Roles, select Map Role.

    8. In the Role Mappings window, click SUP User and clickAdd to map the logical everybody role to the physical SUP

    User role.

    You have now mapped a logical role at the server level.

    Reviewing Personalization Keys

    Goal: Assign and view a description to personalization keys.

    1. Under Unwired Servers, clickPersonalization.The list of personalization keys that appear in the right pane are an aggregation of all the personalization keys

    referenced by currently deployed packages (mobile business objects).

    2. In Description, enter "Save device user's state preference", then clickSave.

    3. Click the Key Values tab to view the values that are assigned to the personalization key and passed to the device users.

    You see an entry for user_state associated with the supAdmin login.

    Note: Only users with the proper privileges are able to see the values associated with other users.
