Artist’s Bios Kip Whelan is a Southern California Ceramics Artist and Professor Emeritus of Rio Hondo College. He attended California State University Long Beach where he received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art Education, a Masters of Art (MA) in Ceramics and a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in Ceramics. He was also selected as the Fine Arts Graduate of the Year at California State University Long Beach. He served as the ceramics instructor at Rio Hondo College for over 33 years. Besides teaching and helping raise his two children, he was an active artist exhibiting in over 150 local and national shows. Kip exhibited both his thrown and sculptural pieces. He has won many awards for his ceramic creations. Dennis Lingo: Upon completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Metalsmithing at California State University Long Beach in 1976, Dennis Lingo undertook his graduate work while simultaneously building a foundation for his work in the retail jewelry industry. In 1978, he began his independent jewelry design business, Dennis Lingo Designs. In the years that followed, Dennis earned numerous accolades including the Niche Award (an industry award for outstanding design achievement), a Smithsonian Fellowship and first place in jewelry in the Portland Arts Festival to name a few. Dennis frequently participated in selected “by invitation” group shows across the United States. Before Dennis retired around 2006, his pieces were sold throughout the United States through fine crafts galleries. Much of his work found its way into private collections in South America, Europe and Japan. Alan Mazzetti comes from a family of artists and has been a visual artist all his life. Moving to San Francisco in the eary 1970’s to study at the Academy of Art, he stayed to work independently as a graphic designer, then illustrator and currently as a fine arts painter. He has gallery representation in San Francisco, Tucson, Boston, Gualual. Regular exhibitions and marketing through Bay Area Art Consultants. Community participation through ArtSpan Committees and SF Open Studios. Mercedes Maza studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and is recognized in Hawaii as one of its foremost watercolorists. Her work hangs in collections nationwide to include patrons such as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Lional Richie, Buffy Saint Marie and Taj Mahal. Her gallery “Art and Soul” is located on the North Shore of Kauai. George Brooks (born 1925) was one of the first designers and fabricators of modernist and wearable art jewelry in Canada, and later relocated to Santa Barbara in California. In 2009, the Musée des maîtres et artisans du Québec held an exhibition on modernist art jewelry in Québec between 1950 and 1970, which showcased the work of Brooks alongside that of Delrue, Gehrig, and other Canadian jewelers. Jewelry by Brooks is represented in the collections of several museums and institutions, including the Renwick Gallery and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
