Is a high school course worth a credit towards high school.
Students must be recommended for Theory in order to take the course
in 8 th grade. After taking Theory 1, students will be able to take
Music Theory 2 at the high school, and then AP Theory if they so
desire. Students who do not take theory now will also have the
option of taking the course when they are in high school.

Students will cover many fundamental aspects of music theory,
including: -Study of science and acoustics -Notation of pitch -Time
classification, time signatures -Note and rest values -Intervals

listener to do what advertisers desire. Students will create an
audio advertisement for either their Calendar or one of their Word

flash animation. These tools and concepts include: Creating Motion

animated movie utilizing the skills acquired in class.
Movie Making (Adobe Premiere) Students make 2 types of movies,
Standard Capture and Stop Motion Standard Capture movies are taken
with a camcorder (similar to home videos) and consist of making a
film from an initial story idea, then directing, shooting, and
editing the final product Students will be utilizing a green screen
to edit themselves into existing clips. Examples include: An
instructional Video News or Sports Cast Stop Motion is an animation
technique to make inanimate objects appear to move on their own.
The object is moved in small increments between individually
photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the
series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Students will
create an original stop motion movie utilizing whiteboards, play
dough or other inanimate objects as the actors

Semester (half-year) Course Ten weeks in Foods/Nutrition Room Ten
weeks in Clothing/Textiles Room Class meets every other day for
double period

The FACS course is divided into two ten-week segments: Food
Preparation - In the eighth grade FACS course you will have the
opportunity to choose a variety of foods to prepare. This could
include yeast breads, pies and desserts, preparing individual food
items to include in a full meal and exploring regional and foreign
foods. In addition, students will review and continue practicing
skills such as measuring and using various kinds of kitchen
equipment.

Sewing- You will have the opportunity to select a sewing
project that will advance and refine your skills. This could
include learning how to make clothing using a pattern and fabric of
your choice, creating a stuffed animal through the use of a kit, or
other options to be explored with your teacher. Also included is a
quick review of threading the sewing machine and using small sewing
equipment.

Community Service- Another component of the sewing curriculum
for eighth graders is the design and creation of a service project.
you have the opportunity to utilize your talents and express your
creativity while helping those less fortunate. For example, a

Course Design Musical Theater Opera Theater/Opera Field Trips
Cultural Pre- Show Dinner Experience Back Stage Tours Composing via
Computer World Music Music Industry Guest Performers, Composers,
and Professionals in Music Industry

Musical Theater and Opera Students will experience musical
theater and opera via DVD recordings and live field trip
performances. A cultural pre-show dinner experience is included in
this unit of study. Students will observe comparisons between these
two performance genres and will define the basic characteristics of
each genre. Optional: Students will perform in musical
theater/opera workshop settings.

co-funded by our BOCES program. Tickets are a minimal cost. Any
