Dear Parents, This week marks our celebration of the Spring Festival which acknowledges the joys and beauty of nature around us. We are blessed to be surrounded by nature to help us recognize the new growth around us, and music and dance become a natural expression of the inner joy we feel at the hope of summer after the introspection of winter. We look forward to families joining their children on Thursday (and we hope for some glimpses of Spring sunshine!). The continued stormy weather we have been experiencing brings to mind this quote from Henry Van Dyke; "The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month." This Friday there is no school for children as it is a PD day for all of the staff of all of the Steiner Schools in WA. Silver Tree Steiner School will join our colleagues in a day of learning and inspiration, including being very fortunate to have a keynote address entitled “The Mission of Waldorf Education” by Harald Haakstad from Norway. I would like to wish all of our children, their families and of course all of the wonderful Silver Tree staff a restful and safe holiday. I hope to see many hands making light work at the busy bee on the last weekend of the holidays and everyone back ready to begin our final term of 2013. Blessings, Donna Bieundurry CALENDAR OF THE SOUL From deep in my heart this world I love – The green, green hills, and the mountains above, The sea so blue and the sunlight gold, And everything that I behold. KOORRDJENANGIN NEWS Do you know what a niddy noddy is? Have you ever heard of a lazy kate? We hadn't either until Maggie Webb visited our class and spoke about wool, carding, spinning and weaving. In case you're wondering, a niddy noddy is what you wind your skein onto and a lazy kate is a piece of wood with pins that the bobbins are put onto. The children had the opportunity to card wool and feel its lovely lanolin texture as well as watch Maggie use her spinning wheel. Thank you so much Maggie for your visit and for sharing your love of this old art.

KOORRDJENANGIN NEWS Cont…

As a culmination of our gardening and farming main lesson, the class has begun writing blessing verses, inspired by their gardening, nature, farm and animal observations and experiences. Here are a just a few – oh so beautiful - with more to come next term. We’ve all had a wonderful term together and I look forward to seeing the children, refreshed and relaxed after a lovely holiday break!

Thank you for the animals

Thank you for the sea

Thank you for the food

And thank you for the bees

Blessings by Sam Casey

Bless this farm, as animals come and go

Bless the seasons, as they flow

Bless the trees, as they let animals rest

Bless my garden, as it gives food of its best

Bless my school, as it teaches me the best

Blessings for my farm by Shelley Jarred

As I awake, the warm sunlight streams across my farm

I smile, as my feet get wet in the grass

I listen to the trees, as they tell me stories of beauty

I feel like I want to dance and then –

I start to skip and twirl and all the while my voice rings

out

I blessed all today!

CRAFT

We've had a wonderfully crafty term at Silver Tree with some really beautiful projects being completed. Here's a tiny peak at what has been created by some of the children over the last few weeks in craft - where jewels of patience, persistence, and wonder are cultivated and absolute joy abounds when the children come to take their work home.
