School Age: Cain And Abel (Genesis 4)

Bible Time  As a family retell the story of Cain and Abel using duplo.  Or, read Genesis 4:1-16 as a dramatic reading with members of the family taking  on different roles: narrator, voice of God, Cain.   

Read Genesis 4:3-5 ( use ICB version, Bible Gateway )   What was the difference between Cain’s offering and Abel’s offering?  (Cain chose 'some', i.e. anything will do attitude; didn't choose the best; Abel   chose the fat, the first born, the best)  

Why did Cain get angry?   (God was happy with what Abel's brought to him, but not Cain, Cain was jealous)  

Read Genesis 4:6-7, 15  What loving things did God do for Cain?   (he warned him not to let his anger grow, he put a mark on his face to protect him)

What loving things has God done for us?  (allowed Jesus to take the punishment for our sin, anger, gives us his Spirit to help   us say ‘no’ to sin, given us a place in heaven, included us in his family...)  

Think about the last time you got angry. Did you thank Jesus for dying to take the  punishment for your anger? Have you asked God to help you not let your anger  grow?

2. Cut A4 colour paper into stips.

3. Thread a strip over and under as indicated.

4. At the end of each line, glue both ends tothe basket.

5. Thread the second line under and over as indicat-ed. Repeat to the bottom of the basket.

6. Cut around the basket to remove the excess.
