PRODUCTION TIPS

Tips for Video Preparation

Make sure your film is no longer than 30 seconds. Remember, it’s like a TV commercial!

Think about your audience. You are trying to educate other teens on the importance of eating breakfast.

Your message should be short and to the point. Do not send the viewers too many different messages. You only have 30 seconds, so use your words, time, and images wisely.

Identify your “hook.” You have to grab your viewers’ attention to hear your message, so think of ways to hook them. A hook can be a funny message, a shocking statistic, an emotional story, etc.

Check your facts. Make sure all of the information that you use is accurate and up to date.

Be creative. Your film can be live-action or animated and include anything from people to puppets. Have fun with it! Ideas include: flash mobs, skits, songs, raps, etc.

Speak slowly and clearly. If your film has dialogue, make sure viewers are able to understand it.

Make text readable. If your film displays text, make sure the words are on the screen long enough and are large enough for the average person to read them.

Keep your raw materials. Keep your original video and computer files until the contest is over!
