4 Mechanical Systems The existing Mechanical System consists of a hot water heating system using the perimeter radiation system for general office area, and unit ventilators for classroom application. The gymnasium is heated and ventilated by an air handling unit and cannot meet present ventilation code requirements. Therefore, this system will have to be replaced with a new hot water heating and ventilation code requirements.

4.5.1 Air handling units capacity and condition.

2all

sections

The existing air handling system consists of one (1) centrally located Trane air handling unit serving the Gymnasium. Each Classroom is served by a unit ventilator with hot water coil. The capacity and condition of unit ventilators are not sufficient to meet the present ventilation code requirements. The air handling unit serving the Gymnasium is in very poor condition, is obsolete, cannot provide minimum air change/hour, and must be replaced. Therefore, a new air handling system is required.

See Pere Lacombe

4.5.2 Outside air for the occupant load (if possible, reference CFM/occupant).

2All

sectionsAre not sufficient at the present time. It is recommended to introduce a glycol system and install new

ventilation system capable of providing outside air min. 15 CFM/occupant.See Pere Lacombe

4.5.3 Air distribution system (if possible, reference number of air changes/hour).

3All

sections

The existing air handling unit serving the Gymnasium is estimated to provide only two (2) air change/hour. It is recommended to replace this unit with, a properly sized, new unit, able to provide min. four (4) air changes/hour, and sufficient amount of outside air for the occupants. Also, it is recommended

to provide two (2) speed fans in the new air handling unit, serving the Gymnasium.
