We are pleased to announce the expansion of our school based telehealth program to two additional schools in the spring. Luther Vaughn Elementary and Blacksburg Primary will soon be able to offer convenient health care to students through the telehealth program. Mary Bramlett Elementary has successfully been providing school based telehealth since 2018 through a partnership with MUSC. Through this partnership, Mary Bramlett can provide on-site sick care, specialized mental health and heart health by MUSC health care providers. The Heart Health program is an innovative program that focuses on pediatric obesity and related illnesses. Recently, our district has partnered with Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) to provide school based telehealth to our participating schools. SRHS will provide on-site sick care through the telehealth program, by a local pediatrician. Look for more details in the March issue of the School Health Newsletter! How it Works What We Treat

If your child is at school and becomes ill, getting them diagnosed and treated quickly is important to you as a parent. However, we understand that it can sometimes be difficult for you to leave work or even miss work to make a doctor appointment. Transportation to and from the doctor’s office may also be a problem. How to Sign Your Child Up

Student sign-up packets are located at your school. Ask your school nurse or front office for a

packet. Once you sign up, the school nurse will talk to you and explain in detail the forms and how

the program works. The sign up packets contain MUSC and/or SRHS designated consent for

treatment and release of information forms. Parents are required to complete the forms before a

student can participate in the program.

Privacy & Confidentiality

The telehealth providers and school nurse will follow the established HIPAA/confidentiality and

privacy policies of the district, MUSC and SRHS. All telehealth virtual visits are done in a secure and

private area, with only the school nurse, student and telehealth provider in attendance.

Questions About the Program

If you have questions or would like to speak with someone about the program, contact your school nurse, building principal or the School Health Coordinator.

Cost of Program

The telehealth providers of MUSC or SRHS will bill your insurance for you, including private or

Medicaid. Medicaid will completely cover the telehealth visit. We will work with you on case- by-

case basis to get you seen by a telehealth provider if you do not have insurance or Medicaid. If your

child does not have a local doctor, we will assist you in finding a local doctor.
