SCHOOL NEWS Romeo & Juliet at the Globe
Last week students from our Year 12 A Level English Literature classes enjoyed a fantastic day out at the Globe Theatre to watch Romeo and Juliet. The event was part of a celebration of the life and work of Richard Burbage, and was organised by the Exit Burbage Society and the residents of Burbage Road. The students particularly enjoyed the dance moves and confetti at the end! Look out for more updates regarding our programme of visits and excursions to support learning in coming issues of the Parental News Bulletin.

Year 10 Boys’ Football News – Kingsdale v UAE This long awaited fixture finally took place at Pynner’s grounds last week, with Kingsdale settling the quickest and controlling the game, Frank Aldridge got the ball rolling along with Maliq Cadogan and Imani Landuedoc. It was soon 3-0 at half-time. In the 2nd half, Kingsdale raised the game to another level! UAE couldn’t cope with Kingsdale scoring a further 5 goals in twenty minutes. The UAE’s coach and referee conceded the game 20 minutes early with the score at 8-0! 2nd half goals came from Santi Gomex Bastidas (Year 10), Maliq and team Captain Jaiden Chang-Brown. The next round will be the Quarter final against Harris East Dulwich. Well done Boys!
Under-16 Boys’ Rugby vs Bollingbroke Acade Congratulations to the Under-16 Boys’ Rugby team for their resounding 45 points to 5 win against Bollingbroke Academy last week. Tries came from Omar Bagegni (Year 11), Charlie Cranston (Year 11), 2 from Sam Newell-Price (Year 11) and a hat-trick from Jason Diamoneka Garcia (Year 11). Andrew Onasanya (Year 10) was simply brilliant! The players were all very agile and quick, breaking past a number of defenders. The Man of the Match award went to James Stephen (Year 11) for his two superb tries and faultless performance from the number 8 position. The whole team were simply superb. Well done boys!
Mini Marathon Trials On Thursday 14th March, the Cross Country team took part in the mini marathon trials. Well done to all students involved. Come rain or shine the students will always do their best. Well done to Jacob and Ben Harrison (Year 10) who yet again ran really well and came 2nd and 3rd. Well done to the whole team on a great all round effort!
Book of the Week Recommended by teachers, librarians, pupils and parents
Book Title: The Fork, the Witch, and the
Worm: Tales from Alagaësia
Author: Christopher Paolini
Age Range: 12+
Why students should read it: If you enjoyed the world of Eragon and the Inheritance Cycle, the fantasy sensation is back with a brand-new set of stories. Christopher Paolini’s new collection of stories is slightly different than from the usual world of the Inheritance Cycle. This volume features three new original stories set in Alagaësia, interspersed with scenes from Eragon's own unfolding adventure. Included is an excerpt from the memoir of the unforgettable witch and fortune-teller Angela the herbalist . . . penned by Angela Paolini, the inspiration for the character, herself! Some orthodox Eragon lovers are a bit disappointed, while some are delighted with the new turn. Extra: Includes four new pieces of original art by the author.

Year 7 Girls’ Football Kingsdale Vs Epping St John
Kingsdale had to play two games back to back following last week’s Inner London Cup Triumph which was a 2-1 tightly fought win against Bishop Challoner School. After this it was onwards to the latter stages of the ESFA Playstation Cup against Epping St Johns. Kingsdale created many chances in the 1st half, with goals coming from Freya Salkeld (year 7) who scored two, along with Iris Lacey (Year 7) who put Kingsdale in control and enabled us to make changes in the 2nd half. Iris scored another goal with Rosalie Salked (Year 7) adding to the score line. Our top goal scorer Izar Olano-Barnes (Year 7) sealed the 6-0 win. A massive well done to the whole team - your coaches are extremely proud of you all!

We Believe in Gender Parity - #IWD2019 Last Friday was International Women’s Day and across the school the debate to accelerate gender equality was high on the agenda. Readings took place via the tannoy in the morning, discussions took place during tutor time and there were lots of opportunities to reflect during assemblies. In addition, there was a ‘girls only’ Inter-House Football Competition; just one of numerous activities that took place to help Celebrate International Women’s Day 2019. Here are just a few images associated with the day’s event.
