IMPORTANT NOTICES

Student late arrivalsPlease can we ask that you remember to sign your child in at Reception if they arrive after 8:45am. This is really important in order for us to maintain an accurate attendance record.

The ‘Languages Other than English’ Department

Together, Teresa Martin and Miriam Abud make up the Sophia Mundi French department. Alongside French Teresa has studied Russian and Miriam Chinese.

Teresa teaches our Primary classes and Miriam our Secondary classes. They are a strong team, visiting conferences together and speaking regularly (in French!) about the curriculum etc.

Teresa has taught at Sophia Mundi for 11 years. Alongside French she is a valuable member of our Secondary Art department. Her love for French was first ignited during her exchange as a teenager. She then lived in Paris for 3 years in her early twenties, studying Eurythmy for one year and painting. She has continued to travel regularly and spent her Long Service Leave in 2012 in Europe.

Teresa and Miriam share a passion for travel and the belief that our exchange program is hugely valuable. It allows a deeper cultural understanding, something both Teresa and Miriam feel is a hugely valuable aspect of

learning a language.

Miriam has worked at Sophia Mundi for 4 years. A highlight of her time here has been the introduction of the IB. Miriam has spent a lot of time travelling, particularly across Africa, strengthening her French during time spent in the French speaking areas of the country.

The Alliance Française French Film Festival is on again, from 5 - 23 March in various cinemas around Melbourne. There is always an excellent range of films to choose from including children’s films, many Australian debuts, and French classics. The French language teachers at Sophia Mundi always enjoy this festival, and we highly recommend families take advantage of the opportunity to experience more French-speaking culture. See the website for more details: www.affrenchfilmfestival.org

We are holding 30 minute information sessions and tours of the school between 8:30 a.m - 1:30 p.m (No bookings necessary)

From the Business Manager:

“Contributed Services Levy [Credit reminder extracted from our 2014 Fee Policy]A Contributed Services Levy of $100 is charged per family each term. All schools rely on contributed services to help keep school fees down while meeting community expectations. Working bees, organizing the Spring Fair, running the school canteen, baking cakes etc. are all Contributed Services. Each family pays a Contributed Services Levy each term. According to each family’s level of contributed services, this levy may be credited back to their account the following term on request.”

I invite all parents who believe their family’s level of Contributed Services during Term One warrants the levy to be credited back to their account, to please email a request to [email protected] , giving details of the contributed services. Thanking you, John Bradshaw

The Yoga of Rhythma TaKeTiNa weekend journey into

rhythm, space and timelessness with Michael Kokinos and Meredith Greenwood

TaKeTiNa works with the primal rhythmic archetypes of creation and releases the healing potential of music within the human being. The body is our instrument - using the voice, claps and steps, participants are guided into different rhythmic

layers. A deeply relaxing and meditative process, it requires no musical experience and invites participants to go at their own pace.

Michael Kokinos has worked as a physiotherapist with individuals, schools and groups for 20 years developing methods for awareness, perception and movement of the body. Michael also has a background as a studio musician with over 40 original compositions for film and television in circulation internationally . He has recently completed the TaKeTiNa facilitator training and is excited to bring this powerful and transformative work into public workshops.

Meredith Greenwood is a musician and therapeutic counsellor from NE Victoria. She was raised on a biodynamic farm and maintains a lifestyle balancing living on the land, caring for animals and playing music. Meredith is the lead singer for The Blue Yonder - Beechworth, and has had both a classical music education as a flautist and experience as a performer. She is a qualified TaKeTiNa facilitator with a keen sense for the language of music and sensitivity in working with people.

The Ta Ke Ti Na rhythm process was developed by Austrian musician Reinhard Flatlishler after years of traveling the world’s cultures seeking that which is both

universal and human in the language of music.

TaKeTiNa Workshop at Sophia Mundi - April 5/6Michael Kokinos (SMSS parent) will be running a workshop in the eurythmy hall at the end of term 1. TaKeTiNa has been used in Steiner schools for music education and here is a chance for the community to experience this restorative and joyful process. TaKeTiNA works with rhythmic archetypes in the body and is easy for anyone to try - it gives feeling of deep peace and relaxation. Please see the flyer in this newsletter for more information.
