Dr. John N. Gathegi joined SLIS on Aug. 7, 2007

He holds a Ph.D. in Information Science from the University of California at Berkeley as well as a J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law (also at Berkeley). Dr. Gathegi also received a MLIS from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.A. in Political Science

Comprehensive Exam

All students must pass a comprehensive exam during their final semester of studies.

The exam involves writing a 8-10 page research paper responding to one of three questions provided.

Admissions Requirements

Regular admission to the SLIS will be granted to students who meet one of the following criteria:

1. Undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or above in upper-division coursework

2. Graduate GPA of 3.5 or above in a Master’s degree program

3. Doctoral degree (including professional degrees such as the JD and MD)

Admissions Requirements

All students not meeting one of the regular admission criteria will be considered for conditional admission based on all of the following:

1. GRE combined score of 1000, with a minimum of 550 verbal and 450 quantitative.

2. A writing sample

3. Written letters of recommendation from three references
