1.0 Introduction
We are a team of passionate medical students from Taylor’s University with a belief that
a seed of an idea fertilized by perspiration and perseverance can grow into tree of success.
Therefore, we aim to bring improvement of quality of life to an orphanage named “Pusat
Jagaan Beribuan Kasih”
2.0 Objectives
a) To improve the quality of life of the residents of the orphanage through the process of
refurbishment.
b) To help the orphans improve their intra-personal skills through the 2 days workshop
which will be further discussed below.
c) To raise awareness amongst the public and thereby connecting the willing givers to
this needy orphanage and also to create an opportunity for the founder of the
orphanage to expand her platform of connections to meet their daily needs & more
through a 1 day carnival.
3.0 State of Pusat Jagaan Beirbuan Kasih
a) History
This orphanage was founded by Ms Kavita with a group of friends few years ago. However,
her group of friends eventually let go of the orphanage after managing it for a few years for
family matters. Fortunately, a sponsor was willing to fund the orphanage at that time.
However, after funding the orphanage for 2 years, her sponsored eventually pulled out and
left to the United States. That left Ms Kavita in quite a predicament as she had 10 orphans in
her orphanage at that time. However, Ms Kavita did not have the heart to send the children
away and eventually decided to sustain the orphanage, hoping that things would turn on well.
Currently, the orphanage survives on the mercy of irregular donations of the good public. Ms
Kavita, who is also the only person with a steady income in the centre (she does shift work
when she is not in the orphanage), runs the place with help from a few older children who
was also raised in the orphanage. Whenever financial donations were insufficient, Ms Kavita
would meet that financial need with her own salary. Living conditions are sufficient for
survival but questionable in terms of a healthy environment. She has about 45 residents under
her wing of which there are 25 children of which 5 are disabled children and the rest are
adults without a home.

Roof being repaired
Storage room underneath leaky part of roof. Walls and windows being repaired
Windows of girl’s room were sealed off due to neighbour’s complaints. As a result, there was
no ventilation and the girl’s room was left unused. Leaving most of everyone to sleep outside.
After discussions with neighbour, we have decided on new higher windows with smaller slits
to allow ventilation. The smaller slits and higher level, discourages the smaller kids to throw
rubbish into the other property.

1.0 Introduction
Carnival day was expected to be held on the final day of the duration of the project at the
orphanage. Many varieties of interesting activities such as fun-filled games, stalls selling
sumptuous food and thirst quenching drinks and beautifully decorated booths of item
donations were planned. We targeted to attract an estimation of 250-300 'attendants'.
Besides that, we are aslo expected to make a large amount of profit which we will then
contribute to the orphanage. In addition to profit, we hope that our event will raise
awareness among the community and public on the importance of charity and that there
is an orphanage that will need everyone’s support and help.
