Problem SolvingThe Design Studio for the E.E. Ford Program in Architecture, Engineering and Design for the Common Good opened in spring 2015. Juniors and seniors in the program, as well as students in several other courses, are engaged and inspired to create and problem-solve, using a variety of technologies such as 3-D printers, a laser cutter and a thermoformer.

Storia e Cultura ItalianaThe Generoso Pope Italian Cultural Studies Program, which was launched in 2012, is a two-year cultural immersion experience for juniors and seniors. Students participate in a college-level seminar course that explores the history, art, language, literature, architecture and politics of Italy. The first year culminates in an extensive tour of Italy, during which students explore topics they later develop into individual research projects as seniors.

All-Girl AdvantageAt Holy Child, every girl is known and valued, and encouraged to be her best self within the classroom and beyond. Girls occupy every role: every part in the school play, every seat in student government, and every position on every team. As a student at Holy Child, Helen traveled to Ghana through our Global Studies Program, was captain of the lacrosse team and an active community service member. She was encouraged to pursue her interest in women in leadership. During her first year at Georgetown University, she and a friend began a Women in Leadership student organization designed to connect ambitious undergraduate women at Georgetown with the intention of fostering a community that cares about their professional development and success. Take a walk through the school and you will see student artwork gracing the hallways. We proudly display the works of our student artists creating a remarkable showcase of our visual arts curriculum, including photography, watercolor, acrylics and print making.

CreateGirls explore dance, choral and instrumental music and the visual arts, from painting and photography to computer graphics and sculpture.

ExpressAn annual spring Arts Night, dramatic and musical theatrical performances, various concerts and spontaneous sing-a-longs are highlights of the school year.

Fifth Grade AdvantageEach June, the School of the Holy Child community gathers on campus to celebrate our commencement exercises. It is no surprise that Holy Child graduates accomplish much during their years spent here through our innovative academic, arts and athletic programs. There are always several students, however, that stand out in a unique way. These are the students who began their experience at Holy Child in the fifth grade. Known within the community as “lifers,” these girls are driven, compassionate, and inquisitive. They proudly celebrate one another at graduation each year. Each lifer has her own passions, and it is the Fifth Grade Advantage that allows all of them to flourish with confidence.

While many other middle schools begin in sixth grade, our fifth grade entry point encourages a more engaged and mature mind-set among our students. Instead of being at the end of their elementary school years, the girls embark on a new journey. Building an academic foundation in math, writing, science and social studies prepares students for the challenging courses ahead. Collaboration, creativity, problem-solving and independent thinking are fostered during this exceptional year.

Confident LeadersGirls grow into leadership roles through participation in student government and a wide variety of student-initiated clubs and service-learning projects. Experiential and interdisciplinary learning distinguish our curriculum and allow for multiple opportunities for collaboration. Teamwork is a guiding principle of our teaching approach and is led by faculty who are mindful of the social and emotional development of each student.

Tech-SavvyWith one-to-one laptop and iPad programs, girls keep pace in flipped classrooms and stay ahead of advances in technology.

Exploratory MindsClass offerings that begin as early as fifth grade include engineering, architecture and robotics.

Field-Based LearningMiddle and Upper School girls have exciting opportunities to learn outside of the traditional classroom, including a trip to Cape Cod to study marine biology.

ResilienceThrough our advising program and classes in human relations, students gain the skills needed to balance academic rigor and personal wellness.

Strong On and Off the Field Beginning in fifth grade, our physical education program is used as a foundation for athletic achievement. Both our Middle School and Upper School athletic programs build skill, confidence, camaraderie and self-esteem, while offering a team for athletes at all skill levels. A 22,000 square-foot Field House supports students’ athletic pursuits and includes an 11,000 square-foot gymnasium, dance studio, athletic training room, fitness room, locker rooms and student commons.

Gryphon PrideBy choosing to become a Gryphon, students become part of a long-standing tradition of success and pride in the classroom, on the playing field and on the courts.

Ready, Set, Go!Whether a girl is an accomplished athlete with her sights set on collegiate athletics, or a novice looking to enjoy the experience on a team, Holy Child athletes learn about leadership, sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.24

Rolling CampusOriginally St. Walburga’s Academy, the school relocated to Rye from Manhattan in 1957. The property includes 18 acres total, with an additional eight acres in adjoining property owned by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus. Originally a high school, Holy Child expanded to include a middle school in 1992 and has since been educating girls in grades 5 through 12.

One SchoolOur students benefit from being part of a community where Upper School and Middle School students share spaces. Older students are called to be mentors and role models for younger students. There is joy, energy and pride when senior peer leaders provide guidance to freshmen, when eighth and fifth graders sit together as prayer partners during Mass, and when a seventh grader hands a rose to a junior to kick off Ring Day.

CatholicA Holy Child education is rooted in Catholicism and is taught with a global perspective requiring students to study religion analytically and to develop their own spirituality.

NetworkThe first Holy Child School was founded in England in 1846. Today, there are 19 Holy Child Network Schools across the United States, England, Ireland, France, Ghana and Nigeria.

Grace and Lila’s friendship started when they were fifth graders. Curious, friendly and smart, this dynamic duo has grown to become a driving force in the Upper School.

An active Class President and soccer player, Grace’s passion for French is the reason why she wants to study the language in college. Lila is an adventure-seeking, lacrosse lover and field hockey player who loves AP United States History.

Challenged and SupportedAt Holy Child, students are not afraid to take risks. They investigate chemical reactions in science courses, and interpret complex texts in English class. They construct logical arguments, and identify sound reasoning in courses in rhetoric and religious studies. Holy Child girls are encouraged to become the best version of themselves.

Advising ProgramThe advisor program is an integral part of the school-family relationship. Each student has a faculty advisor who oversees her academic and personal growth. The advisor serves as the liaison between the student, the student’s parents, and all of the student’s teachers. Parents are encouraged to contact their daughter’s advisor whenever there is a question about academic, social, or personal issues. Time spent among advisor group meetings is used for a variety of planned activities, discussion topics, and social time.

In the Middle School, a student’s homeroom teacher serves as her advisor. Middle School students report to their advisor three mornings per week upon arrival at school in addition to an advising period that meets during the school day.

As freshman, students are grouped with faculty members who are experts in the transition between middle school and high school. During sophomore year, students are assigned an advisor who serves in this capacity until graduation from Holy Child.

Pursue PassionsAs girls gain a broad base of knowledge through their core courses, a variety of electives and signature programs provide an in-depth study of key areas of interest. The desire to explore, collaborate, research, present and reflect is what defines a Holy Child student.
