"FOOD FOR THOUGHT" for our RCIA Class Needed!
Our RCIA class meets after mass on Sunday's in the Walnut Room. This makes for a long morning with Mass followed by Class, so it sure is nice to have some "food for thought"!
If you are willing and able to provide a snack, please sign up in the back of church for the Sunday of your choice! We are currently scheduling through the summer classes!
Thank you SO MUCH for your help! There are 8 people in class, so donuts, muffins, fruit, a casserole or...whatever you can provide will be much appreciated!
Tuition Assistance
Last week a group of volunteers reviewed Tuition Scholarship Applications and made recommendations for both Parishioner’s and Non-parishioners to the St. Matthew School. We had no names but rather financial needs and essays to guide us, along with the Holy Spirit.
With over $35,000 of funds available from endowment distribu-tions it truly is a blessing to be able to help families and children to attend our school.
Non-Parishioner Scholarships can be funded thru the Linda Denning Memorial Endowment and the St Matthew Educational endowment. The St Matthew educational endowment is funded by a portion of the School Benefit Auction proceeds.
Parishioner scholarships are funded by the Loew Endowment. Dorothy Loew left funds in her will to provide assistance that she felt was needed.
We thank God for her and all our generous donors. Please pray that families and children attending our school learn the love of God in their lives.
As married persons, we are called to serve in a special way through our marriages. This is a noble endeavor and yet is not without its own unique set of challenges. For helpful resources, go to www.foryourmarriage.org or con-tact Eric Girten, Coordinator of Family & Life Programs, at [email protected] for additional resources or information.

The 2018 Auction Committee once again thank everyone that supported the Annual St. Matthew School Benefit Auction. The final numbers are in and the results are amazing! This is all because of each one of you. Thank you so much for being behind us and supporting this endeavor to give back to our school. We are truly blessed!
The net proceeds of the 2018 School Benefit Auction were $85,307.68. Following is a brief summary of some of the proceeds that have been paid out or designated thus far.

Finance Council
The Finance Council met Tuesday, May 29, 2018. The council reviewed the January through April, 2018 financial reports. There is currently a cash shortfall because collections are down $25,000 year-to-date compared to the prior year, while operating expenses have remained about the same. Also, our monthly diocesan payment for our CPC shortfall has gone up from $1,000 to $3,000 per month. Although we exceeded our goal on the Stewards of God’s Grace Capital campaign, thanks to the generosity of our parishioners, that excess must be used for capital improve-ments and cannot be used for operating expenses.
Fr. Jim has written a letter to the parish outlining 3 courses of action:
• A special appeal (with envelopes) called “Help pay our bills” to collect money for operating expenses to fix the current shortfall.
• A request that parishioners review their tithing and see if they can increase their giving by ½%.
• A request that parishioners sign up for “We Share” (formerly “Parish Pay”) to ensure better cash flow, especially when people are away or not attending Mass. Call or stop by the parish office if you need help signing up.
The following recommendations of the Building & Grounds Committee were approved: a shade awning for the Child Care Ministry and a pea gravel surface (with a drainage system) for the school playground. The possible purchase of additional playground equipment was deferred to next year and the structure retrofit of slides was not approved due to the cost.
Some members of the Finance Committee will attend the meeting for Tuition Assistance on May 30, 2018, along with members of the School Council.
