FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear Parents, Carers and School Community
The end of the school year is just ten days away but there is still so many great events and things to do. The school year officially finishes on Thursday 13 December and our final event will be the Presentation Assembly. This will finish around lunch time and if parents choose to take their chil-dren home following the assembly, please ensure you in-form your child’s teacher.
CONGRATULATIONS D2 AND D3 KINDERGARTEN
STUDENTS
The last assembly was hosted by our fabulous Kindy chil-
dren in Mrs Woodmansey and Ms Frere Harvey’s classes. The children presented a great little maths based song “Count to Ten Chicken Dance”. The actions and their sing-ing were so infectious and we all sang the song in our heads long after it finished. Congratulations on the excel-lent learning and progress made this year. Well done.
STUDENT REPORTS
Your children’s reports will be sent home on Friday 7 December which will give you sufficient time to read through these with your child and arrange a time to meet with their teacher if you wish to discuss any aspects of the report. Please discuss the positive comments and talk through any concerns expressed by teachers to assist your child to set some new goals for next year.
PARENT MORNING TEA
Next Tuesday 4 December from 10.40am staff will be hosting a morning tea to thank all those parents who have assisted during the year. By now you should have received an invitation but just in case someone has assumed another staff member has invited you, please accept this as an invitation to come along so we can thank you in person. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and without your help and support our school would not be able to offer the level of education we do. I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday to say thanks.
STAFF CHANGES AND FAREWELLS
This year a number of people are leaving us and it is with sadness we have to say goodbye. I know I have mentioned Mrs McAuliffe is retiring briefly before to many of you but I do want to thank her again on behalf of the whole Wirrabirra School community. Diane has been at Wirrabirra for twenty-four years and touched the lives of thousands of students, many who have returned with children of their own. Diane has made an outstanding impact in our school and been the smiling face that greets you in the office. I encourage you to drop into the office next week to say goodbye and thanks for all she has done in her time at Wirrabirra. I wish her every happiness in retirement on behalf of everyone at Wirrabirra.
Mrs Robyne Williams will be leaving us after 22 years in which time she has contributed as an Educational Assistant, Community Liaison Officer, Passport Coordinator and Support a Reader coach. Robyne is taking up new roles at Honeywood PS and we will miss her commitment to our students and teachers and her fun and laughter.
Mr Jack Keady is leaving to pursue his love of music and we welcome back Mrs Connolly to full time Music Special-
Wirrabirra School is an ALLERGY FRIENDLY SCHOOL. What does this mean? It means that we will respect the individual needs of students who have identified allergies (with care
plans) to such products as nuts, kiwi fruit, milk and eggs to name a few. In particular, food products that have nuts or are made from nuts should NOT come to school - ie: peanut paste, Nutella and nut bars. Our canteen is “nut free” and “kiwi fruit free” to accommodate
individual students with special needs.

The performance this year with the massed choirs was a real highlight and I thank him and wish him the very best in his teaching career. I also thank Miss Isalyn Bessell-Browne who has filled in this term as two-day Music Specialist for the skills and enthusiasm she has brought to the role.
Lastly but not least I would like to acknowledge the work Mr Toby Chapman has given to filling in for Miss Oldridge who will return next year. Toby has helped to provide continuity for his class and built a great rapport with his students. I wish him all the best in his new roles wherever they may be in 2019 and beyond.
I would like to also welcome Mrs Angela Witcher who will be joining us form Maidens Park Primary School. Angela was successful in being selected from our merit select pool and comes to us with solid experience and extensive skills. I look forward to her joining our dynamic team of teachers.
GRADUATION AND PRESENTATION ASSEMBLY
The Year Six Graduation will be held on Monday evening 10 December at the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre starting 7pm sharp. This is an exciting time as our Year Six students transition to high school and I look forward to celebrating and acknowledging them all on the night. This will be followed by our Presentation Assembly on the last day Thursday 13 December. At this assembly, classes will join together to present an item and then teachers will present two book awards to each class. We will also acknowledge the prize winners from Graduation and announce the School Councillors for 2019. The assembly starts at 10.30am and will run for approximately two hours. I do hope you will be able to drop in for all or part of the event. If you talk with teachers, they will be able to give you a rough estimate of time when your child will be performing if you can juggle work commitments.
CELEBRATION DAY AND DISCO
You should have received a note about Celebration Day and the children going to see a new release movie. This is to celebrate the terrific work students have completed this year and is happening on Friday 7 December. Please make sure you have returned permission slips and money for your children. Thanks.
Also as part of our Positive Behaviour Support program teachers will be joining our Councillors to host a series of discos next Wednesday 5 December. I did say there was a lot going on in the last two weeks of school.
SINCERE THANKS
I would like to extend a sincere thanks to our P&C for the outstanding effort they have made this year with the highlight being the very successful markets on 16 November. The event was a credit to the P&C and our staff who work so well together to make the night so special. There was a tremendous feeling in the school and I lost count of the number of people who attended. Wirrabirra and you as parents of this school, have a very dedicated group of parents willing to strive to make our school better. To Sonya Kimbar and her executive team, I thank you sincerely for the time and effort you have given and say it has been terrific working with you and a lot of fun. Thanks.
To the School Board, under the direction of Board Chair Marnie Kehoe, I also say thanks for the support and direction you have provided this year. We have an excel-lent and intelligent Board who pose questions and have worked with us to improve what we do at Wirrabirra. Both these groups are in excellent shape and work closely to-gether with us to be proud of our school. I urge you to be-come involved and join the growing number of people who take a keen interest in their child’s education and future.
To all parents and carers, I thank you on behalf of all staff for the ongoing support and help with your children through close partnerships with teachers and the school. By working together, we can maximise the outcomes for all children and contribute to lifelong success for every child.
Lastly, I would like to thank the brilliant staff at Wirrabirra for the huge effort made this year to continually improve the way we teach and the learning experiences for our students. I am constantly impressed with so many terrific outcomes and work from students. Well done everyone.

Dear Parents/Carers
It’s hard to believe we are at the end of November with two weeks left of school for 2018. As I reflect on the year and look back, I am amazed by all that we have done. Each term was very busy despite the hope keeping the schedule as free as possible. Several highlights stick to mind with the excur-sion to the safety school, the students’ participation and success in the sport carnival, the circus therapy program, Edu Dance, swimming, golf and the Moonlight Markets just being a few. In everything we did the students never ceased to amaze us with their achievements, perseverance and attitudes when participating in activities and setting out to achieve goals. The continued support and partnerships from you, our families, assists us in being able to deliver the best possible program for your child. We would like to thank all families for the support we received throughout the year.
As always the end of the school year means Graduation for the Year Six students. This year we have Fatima and Jaimie leaving us to move onto the exciting new environment in high school. Leeming ESC and Cannington Community ESC are very lucky to be having exemplary Wirrabirra students attending their schools next year. We wish both Year Six students all the best in the next phase of their education. We’ll keep our fingers crossed we will cross paths and catch up with them at some of the ESSN events we attend. Nemo from B5 has also left us. We wish Nemo and his family all the best in their new adventure in New South Wales.
We also welcome Dylan in B4 and Ben in B5 who were scheduled to start at Wirrabirra next year but have transi-tioned now to prepare for 2019.
We are fortunate enough to not have staff leaving us at the end of the year. However, we do have Mrs Jan Hudson ex-tending her holidays and taking long service leave for Term One of next year.

School resumes for students in 2019 on Monday 4th February. The Uniform Shop will be open on Friday 1st February 9am - 1pm. The Office will be open from 29th January with admin-istration staff back at work setting up for the year.
Lastly from all the staff here at Wirrabirra we would like to wish our families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday and we look forward to continuing to work with you all in 2019.

P&C Report
Hi everyone
What a fabulous night our Moonlight Markets were! Thanks everyone who came along and supported the night. Together we raised almost $6000 for the school. What an awesome effort! Special thanks to the P&C members who worked tire-lessly on the night and in the lead up: Rebecca McBride, Pen-nie Njuguna, Henriette Truscett, Emi-leigh Johns, Meg Betty, Leanne Meyza and Denise Lyons. Thanks also to the many oth-er parents, teachers and businesses who contributed to mak-ing the night such a success. We honestly couldn’t have done it without you. Congratulations to the lucky raffle winners too! If you have helped out at the school during the year or with the markets, please enjoy the hospitality at the Volunteer Morning Tea next Tuesday, 4 December. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and much needed. Please continue to help out next year, and maybe even join the P&C or help out at the canteen. We would love more helpers.
Well done on making it through another school year. Wishing you and your families a happy and safe Christmas. We hope you are able to spend some quality time together and enjoy not having to get up early for school!

School Watch is a partnership between Western Australia Police and the Department of Education and Training, and is
closely linked to Neighbourhood Watch.
School Watch is a community-based crime prevention awareness program developed to improve safety and

Chaplain’s Chat
Hi everyone,
The end of the school year is fast approaching, and I
am sure after your hard work this term all staff, stu-
dents and parents will be glad of a break. For those
who haven’t already begun Christmas preparations, I
wish you well as it gets chaotic out there especially for
parents trying to find the right gifts.
I had an opportunity in the week to talk with students
about what Christmas meant for them. Some didn’t
celebrate Christmas but had other traditions through-
out the year that were special to them and their fami-
lies. Others talked of festivals related to their religion.
It was a lovely moment and they clearly enjoyed being
able to share what they already knew and were learn-
ing about their beliefs and traditions. Learning about
different cultures, beliefs and traditions is very im-
portant for our children and is part of their education
at Wirrabirra. This knowledge brings understanding
and fosters respect and acceptance of others and their
beliefs.
There was a time when Christ-
mas for most people in Austral-
ia was about remembering the
birth of Christ the Saviour who
gave hope to the world. This is
still the case for many people,
but many today simply cele-
brate the opportunity to be
with those they love, sharing
gifts, festive food and enjoying
the holiday season.
Christmas can be a difficult, and lonely time for people
who have fractured and damaged relationships or who
may be experiencing Christmas for the first time with-
out a loved one. Financial pressures can cause people
to feel like they cannot provide enough at this time for
children and families. If you are in crisis and feeling
overwhelmed in this regard, please come and see me.
Whatever your beliefs about Christmas or your situa-
tion in relation to others, I pray that you experience
the spirit of joy, kindness and peace that is at the
heart of why we celebrate Christmas each year.

YouthCARE Chaplain
WAAPA Summer School 2018/2019
This Summer WAAPA at ECU, Mt Lawley is offering
an exciting performing arts program for students from
Years 1 to 12. The Summer School includes classes in
RAP, Acting, Dance, Drama, Screen Performance, Mu-
sic Theatre and of course, how to perform Shakespeare.

HUNTINGDALE NETBALL CLUB Huntingdale Netball Club is looking for players for Winter Season 2019. We are a locally based club, we train and play at SDNA which is located in Langford at the netball courts.
The age group is from turning 7(sometimes we take 6 year olds) and older, no experience is needed. Season starts in Late April and our regis-tration information will be sent out late January.
