DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL
DEPTFORD, NEW JERSEY
A regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Township of Deptford was held at the above place and date at 7:00p.m.
prevailing time.
The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Susan Kryszczak at 7:02p.m.
Statement: In accordance with the Sunshine Law: Notice of this meeting has been provided to the South Jersey Times, the
Courier Post, the District Website, and the Municipal Clerk of the Township of Deptford to be posted in a public place.
ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion by Mr. McDevitt, seconded by Mr. Getsinger, on the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent to approve the
Open Session and Executive Session minutes of the meeting held March 13, 2018.
Motion carried. Roll call vote (9-0).
PRESENTATION:
1. High School Student Speech – Ryan Shaw and Shoa Moosavi, 11th
graders, read their speech from the March 14th
demonstration commemorating the school shooting in Parkland, Florida at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
regarding school security concerns.

PUBLIC PORTION (agenda items only)
Mrs. Kryszczak opened the meeting for petitions from the floor regarding agenda items only.
Michele Walker expressed her dissatisfaction with how Deptford is running enrollment for Pre-K next year.
Jeremy Walker, a minor, read a prepared statement regarding the unsettled teachers’ contract.
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A MEETING CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC
Motion by Ms. Rosser, seconded by Mr. Getsinger, on the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent to enter closed
session at 8:59pm.
WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 10:4-12 allows for a Public Body to go into closed session during a Public Meeting; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Education of the Township of Deptford has deemed it necessary to go into closed session to
discuss certain matters which are exempted from the Public; and
WHEREAS, the regular meeting of this Board of Education will reconvene at the conclusion of closed session, at
approximately 10:00 p.m. this evening.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Township of Deptford will go into closed
session for the following reason(s) as outlined in N.J.S.A. 10:4-12:
X Any matter the disclosure of which constitutes an unwarranted invasion of individual privacy (HIB review and
student residency hearing);
X Any matter which, by express provision of Federal Law, State Statute or Rule of Court shall be rendered
confidential or excluded from discussion in public (Provision relied upon: financial matters);
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Education hereby declares that its discussion of the aforementioned
subject(s) may be made public at a time when the Board Attorney advises the Board of Education that the disclosure of the discussion
will not detrimentally affect any right, interest or duty of the School District or any other entity with respect to said discussion.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Education, for the aforementioned reasons, hereby declares that the
public is excluded from the portion of the meeting during which the above discussion shall take place and hereby directs the Board
Secretary to take the appropriate action to effectuate the terms of this resolution. There will be no action taken at the conclusion of
closed session.
Motion carried unanimously.
RETURN TO PUBLIC SESSION
Motion by Ms. Rosser, seconded by Mr. Getsinger, to return to public session at 10:15pm.

Mrs. Gray asked about building in snow days into the calendar in the future. Mrs. Kryszczak stated that it was discussed.
FINANCE
Motion by Mr. Getsinger, seconded by Ms. Rosser, on the recommendation of the School Business Administrator to approve
the following:
1. Transfers in the 2017-2018 budget for the month of February, 2018 as attached (Finance Attachment 1).
2. Report of the Secretary and the Cash Report as attached (Finance Attachments 2). The Deptford Township
Board of Education certifies that:
a. Board Secretary’s Report is in accordance with 18A:17-36 and 18A:17-9 for the month of February, 2018.
The Board Secretary certifies that no line item account has been over expended in violation of N.J.A.C.
6A:23A-16.10(c)3 and that sufficient funds are available to meet the district’s financial obligations for the
remainder of the fiscal year.
b. The Cash Report is in accordance with 18A:17-36 and 18A:17-9 for the month of February, 2018. The
Cash Report and Secretary’s Report are in agreement for the month of February, 2018.
c. Board Secretary in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16.10(c)2 certifies that there are no changes in
anticipated revenue amounts or revenue sources.
d. Board of Education Certification – pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-6.10(c)4, we certify that after review of
the secretary’s monthly financial report (appropriations section) and upon consultation with the appropriate
district officials, that to the best of our knowledge no major accounts or fund has been over expended in
violation of N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-6.10(b) and that sufficient funds are available to meet the district’s financial
obligations for the remainder of the fiscal year.
3. BE IT RESOLVED that the tentative 2018-2019 budget as presented in the budget documents provided to
the Board be approved and authorize the Board Secretary to submit the following tentative budget to the
Executive County Superintendent of Schools for approval in accordance with statutory deadlines:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Deptford Township Board of Education approves travel and
related expense reimbursements in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-7.3, to a maximum expenditure of
$50,000.00 for the 2018-19 budget year for all staff and board members; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Deptford Township Board of Education will advertise said budget
in the South Jersey Times in accordance with the format suggested by the State Department of Education and
according to law; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a public hearing will be held on April 24, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the
Deptford High School Cafeteria for the purpose of conducting a public hearing on the 2018-2019 budget.
4. Accept the donation of books from Bridge of Books Foundation to be distributed to early childhood students at
Central Early Childhood Center for their reading challenge as well as any other educational purpose.
Motion carried. Roll call vote (9-0).
BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Ms. Rosser would like the Board to honor the teachers and students at Monongahela Middle School who were national award winners.
Dr. Blachford stated that we are looking into that.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Kalinowski spoke about the active shooter drill held at Shady Lane and commended all who participated. He stated he attended
the Marching Band banquet and congratulated them for their success.
Mr. Getsinger spoke about the Earth Day essay contest.
Mrs. Gray spoke about the active shooter drill held at Lake Tract and was impressed with what she experienced.

Motion by Mr. McDevitt, seconded by Mr. McKenna, to approve the payment of the following bills, with funds available, per
approval of the Interim Superintendent and the Finance Committee (Bills List Attachment):

Mrs. Kryszczak opened the meeting for petitions from the floor.
Rakshan Moosavi spoke on the Gifted and Talented program and the resignation of Mrs. Tucci. She wants to know what the Board’s
plan is going forward.
