School History and Description
Murrieta Elementary School is the oldest school in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District, and it represents a microcosm of our community. Located in “Historic Downtown Murrieta,” the school has served the community since 1958. The current school site replaced the original buildings located on Second Street. When the present school was built, the old school bell was incorporated into its design. On Friday mornings, the entire school assembles on the quad for the flag salute. Families join us in pledging allegiance to the flag, singing a patriotic song, and celebrating the accomplishments of students and the contributions of staff members, parents, and community members. At the conclusion of the ceremony, a special person is selected to ring the bell that once tolled over the original school 118 years ago. This special honor allows the individual to touch a piece of our community’s history. Each class has an opportunity to lead this event, and students are excited to participate in such a positive leadership experience. Murrieta Elementary takes tradition very seriously, and the pride of our students, staff, and community is evident wherever you turn.
As a targeted Title I school, with an enrollment of nearly 900 students, we serve a diverse student population comprised of various ethnic and socioeconomic groups. All stakeholders on site are committed to providing a rigorous and meaningful curriculum to all students. Staff members work diligently to ensure that our vision of individual academic success for all students is realized and our results are validated by continual growth. Classroom instruction reflects a multitude of standard-based activities that are engaging and designed to support student learning. Parent volunteers operate literacy centers, paraprofessionals teach phonemic awareness, and there is evidence of the joys of learning on every corner of our campus. Murrieta Elementary is committed to providing strong interventions to our at-risk student population, as well. It is our belief that imparting strategic instruction for our struggling learners also benefits regular classroom instruction. Refining strategies and utilizing best practices amplifies the effectiveness of all classroom instruction. While we believe that identifying a student’s academic needs is an essential component of our educational mission, we also recognize that addressing a student’s social and emotional needs is crucial to their overall success in school. The staff provides safety nets in these areas, and the programs we have in place which speak to this mission are Character Counts, Stalking Success, Peer Leaders Uniting Students (PLUS), Student Leaders, Student Helpers, and Friendship Crew. At Murrieta Elementary, everyone works together to build the school community and to support our students.
Murrieta Elementary is a family of partnerships dedicated to providing an exceptional educational experience. Our Parent Teacher Committee actively participates by funding, promoting, and staging
events. The organization supports teachers by fulfilling classroom requests for materials and provides scholarships for students to attend science camp. Our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a welcome presence on campus, offering advice and support to our students. Our administrators exhibit an active role in classroom experiences and in activities across campus.
Teachers work together in Professional Learning Communities utilizing data to design curriculum, implement instructional strategies, and create formative and summative assessments. Collaboration
and cooperation permeates our campus—each child belongs to every one of us, and we work together to prepare today’s students to succeed in tomorrow’s world.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to prepare students for the skills necessary for the 21st century careers, to encourage lifelong learning of all skills, including the use of technology. Our mission is to provide our students with the foundational technology skills necessary to be successful in their secondary education. Our mission is to implement this plan, build capacity for our student to learn using technology by providing professional development for our staff members, and holding each other accountable for ensuring that all learners are prepared for the ever changing future.
Vision Statement
Our vision is for students, parents, and educators to use communication and information technologies to enhance and expand the traditional role of education. Technology can improve communication, enhance thinking skills, make instruction more efficient and effective, and develop life skills critical to success. Murrieta Elementary School will incorporate technology as a means of integrating curriculum across subject areas. Students and educators will be guaranteed opportunities to use technology as an integral part of education. This technology integration plan will outline our strategies for turning this vision into reality.
A. Technology Action Plan
Expected student outcomes in three years as a result of technology use:
Students will use technology as an essential component of the learning process, receiving practice in selecting and using various technology applications to accomplish a wide variety of tasks.
Basic outcomes from the use of technology: Select and access technology appropriate to needs Use correct starting and exiting procedures Develop keyboarding skills Operate peripheral devices Use technology independently and cooperatively Use technology safely and ethically Develop research skills Enhance creativity and problem solving skills through technology Using the technology to create new ways to express ideas and
communicate with others.
Working toward grades four and five proficiencies, every student in grades kindergarten through third grade will be afforded the opportunity to acquire basic literacy, mathematic, problem solving, research, and keyboarding skills.
Every student entering grade four will possess and demonstrate basic keyboarding skills that will enable her/him to navigate through a web page and to construct and edit a basic word processing document.
Every student will have equal access to an online experience on a daily basis. Every student will use information technology resources to engage in meaningful
real world problem solving experiences. Every student will utilize technology resources to engage in a meaningful arts
experience. Every student in grades four and five will demonstrate the ability to complete a
research project utilizing technology and electronic and/or Internet resources. Every student exiting grade five will demonstrate basic computer competencies
including but not exclusive to the legal and moral ethics of technological sharing and transfer of information.
Students will be able to access information provided by teachers through video webcast, websites, and presentations.
Expected staff outcomes in 3 years as a result of technology use:
The administrative staff will promote and support technological training for all Murrieta Elementary employees.
All teachers will use technology to review, monitor and structure student
learning and progress. All teachers will use technology as a classroom management tool. All teachers will utilize quality software programs, allowing teachers to more
easily evaluate student performance and present information in an easy to read format.
All teachers will access current information to supplement teaching resources with electronic sources and on-line services.
All teachers will increase communication with parents through computer links, as well as email and other social media.
All staff will utilize technology as a primary means of communicating with colleagues and the global community.
All school site administrators will utilize technology as the primary tool for communication with staff and District personnel.
Teachers and school site administrators will use technology to remain informed of the latest and most successful teaching practices.
All teachers will successfully integrate technology into various curriculum areas including virtual field trips.
All staff will demonstrate a proficiency in the use of multimedia software and be able to use standard word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
All staff will demonstrate basic computer competencies including but not exclusive to the legal and moral ethics of technological sharing and transfer of information.
School and district will provide staff and students with multimedia software. School and district will provide a web based design application for students
and teachers to design their own webpage. Our data management system will facilitate teachers and student
communication, file sharing, lesson planning, and delivery of new material. Students will be able to access information provided by the teachers through
video webcast, video conferencing, in a safe, secure format using our Learning Management System.

C. Maintenance PlanMurrieta employees will continue to maintain technology in the following ways:
Teachers will use technology to engage students in learning as they present content aligned to standards.
All staff will demonstrate basic computer competencies including but not exclusive to the legal and moral ethics of technological sharing and transfer of information.
Teachers will remain current on the use of both computer applications and web based programs (for example: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ITunes, Amazon Marketplace, Web-Based Programs, Discovery Education, and SAM (Scholastic Achievement Manager), Movie Maker) to both instruct students and monitor student performance.
Teachers will continue to remain current on the use of the following peripherals: Tablets Document Cameras –ELMO projectors should be maintained (bulbs, etc.) Digital Cameras
I. Access
Murrieta Elementary School will have a reliable network system to provide a variety of media and formats, including telecommunications, school web site, and email access to communicate, interact, and collaborate with peers, experts, other educational professionals, parents, and the community.
II. Staff Professional Development
Teachers will be trained to use technology by staff with experience using the technology to: Create multimedia presentations through the use of document cameras, tablets, etc. Utilize computer applications to create webpage, edit digital photos, create digitized
videos, and publish instructions to be used in Haiku, Think Central, Google Doc and Microsoft Office 365.
Instruct teachers on the use of web based sites and resources that support instruction as well as a gateway for students to student, student to teacher and teacher-to-teacher communication as it relates to Common Core Standards.
III. Integration
Murrieta Elementary School (MES) is committed to the integration of technology in all curricular areas, giving great focus in the areas of reading and math. The use of technological resources will enhance the learning environment of students and staff. MES will integrate technology as an effective tool to improve, support, and increase student learning to meet the academic content standards. MES will provide powerful learning opportunities for all students. Students will be provided with additional tools to address their particular learning style. In addition, staff and students will have an alternate means to creatively express ideas and display knowledge.
MES will integrate technology into the curriculum in various ways: Virtual field trips Research tools used by both staff and students Word processing skills to communicate to students, teachers, and paraprofessionals Multimedia presentation prepared by both staff and students Record-keeping tasks using AERIES and EADMS Distance learning, video conferencing Analyze data and design appropriate learning tasks for student achievement through an
electronic student information system Reinforcement and remedial practice Individualized instruction
Teacher created units / materials Software programs aligned with the Common Core Standards Immediate feedback as provided through the progress monitoring assessments Parent/Teacher communication tools
IV. Technology Support
A helpdesk has been created and a Technology Assistant will be assigned to our school on call so that all teachers receive assistance in meeting their individual curriculum technology needs.
The District will provide training in the area of troubleshooting and identification of potential network problems through the helpdesk.
All staff will provide basic care, safe setup, and simple maintenance of classroom technology equipment.
The School Technology Coordinator and Administration will be available to assist teachers in meeting their instructional needs as it relates to student achievement.
V. Public Relations
Murrieta Elementary School will encourage and promote parent participation at the district and school level. Staff members will incorporate technology during parent meetings. Newsletters as to where they might access technology in our school or district will inform parents. Information through Haiku Learning will be made available to parents. Parents will be provided information on how to access their child’s information through the parent portal. The School Messenger System about important events will notify parents. Our school webpage will provide contact information for parents and teachers, as well as, information on current events.
VI. Funding
Our school plans to fund our technology needs through community members, General Funds, the PTC, and federal, state and/or local grants. These funds will be allocated to meet the individual needs of students to ensure academic success for all.
VII. Program Evaluation
The School-Based Decision Making Council, Technology Committee, School Principal and District Superintendent or designee will annually assess and recommend improvements Guiding questions will be used for evaluation of the plan. Staff will be evaluated on how well they can design and implement learning experiences (e.g., units of instruction) that empower students to solve authentic problems relating to an overall theme/concept using the available technology (e.g., multimedia applications, internet, databases, spreadsheets, word processing).
After being reviewed, staff may be encouraged to add technology professional development components to their personal growth plan.
