Air Trajectory

Prior to competition design and construct a device that will launch projectiles (ie tennis balls) accurately

Anatomy and Physiology

Bridge Building

Build a bridge prior to competition that will span 45 cm and suspend a bucket with weight.

Bridge must be all real wood and glued together

Chemistry Lab

Team of 2 will complete tasks and answer questions in a 50 min period

Focus is on processes of chemistry, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, and kinetics

Investigate a case study of disease, injury, health, and its effect on population growth

Dynamic Planet

Teams of 2 will complete tasks related to physical and geological oceanography

Teams of 2 with the help of a commercially published resource will identify insect specimens!

Experimental Design

Team of up to 3, 50 minutes

You will be given random supplies and need to create an experiment and write it up (mini-science fair project)

Forensics

Teams of 2 are given a crime scene scenario and suspects and must use scientific tests to solve the crime.

Fossils

Teams of 2 will use a field guide and their own knowledge to identify fossils at different stations.

Geologic Mapping

Teams of 2 will demonstrate understanding and use of topographic maps, geologic maps, and cross sections as related to maps, plate tectonics, geohazards.

Green Generation

Teams of 2 will analyze and interpret charts, graphs, and data on ecology, aquatic issues, air quality, and climate change

It’s About Time

Teams of 2 will construct a non-electrical device to measure time intervals between 10 and 300 seconds.

Teams will also complete a written test.

Mission Possible

Prior to competition teams will build and test a Rube Goldberg device that will lift and drop a golf ball into a jug and activate a buzzer.

Protein Modeling

Teams of up to 3 will use a computer to construct a physical model of a protein and complete an exam.

Scrambler

Teams of 2 will build (prior to event)a mechanical device which uses energy from a falling mass to transport an egg as quickly as possible without crashing into the terminal barrier.

Technical Problem Solving

Teams will gather and process data to solve problems on temperature, force, motion, etc

Wright Stuff

Prior to event design and construct a rubber-powered monoplane to achieve max time aloft.

Write It/Do It

Teams of 2. First partner is given a random object (made of items like Styrofoam, legos, paper cups, popsicle sticks etc) and must write a description of the object and how to build it (no symbols or diagrams).

After 25 minutes second partner will be given description and must build the object.
