Ben Hogan Scoring Clinic Suggestions

Here are five different clinics you can offer that will appeal to a significant number of your golfers. All should begin with the golfer/attendees taking the Ben Hogan HoganFit™ Personal Bag Mapping Analysis, so that you have a foundation to speak to them about equipment.

1. Short Game Tune-up – this clinic covers the basics for pitching and chipping, and helps the golfer understand the difference and when to use each:

a. Fundamentals – stance, grip, posture b. Understanding your wedges – explain loft, bounce and spin c. Swing differences – explain chips and pitches and demonstrate/teach the difference d. Shot selection – when to chip, when to pitch

2. Bunker Clinic – Beating Your Fear of The Sand

a. This specific skills clinic should appeal to those many golfers who are intimidated by the sand. Teach basics and get advanced as the students can handle

b. Reading the lie c. The basic bunker shot d. Adjustments for various sand types – firm, soft, half-buried, etc. e. Using different clubs for different shots

3. Secrets of Wedge Play – This clinic is designed to give the teacher a forum to teach more

advanced pitching techniques – from mid-range “in-between” shots to specialty shots around the greens – flop shot, low spinner, etc.

4. Short Range Scoring – This clinic focuses on full swing short iron and wedge play, both fundamentals and shot strategies;

a. Focus on fundamentals – stance, posture, swing path b. Club selection – how to give yourself the best chances of a “good miss” by hitting to the

best side of the flag, rather than right at it. c. In-between shots – how to use hand position and face angle to dissect your in between

yardages. Includes an examination of the golfer’s lofts and shaft differences between their wedges and irons.

5. Improving your GIR percentage – This clinic gives you a forum to teach better iron play technique and strategies for hitting more greens, which every golfer wants.

a. Club selection – being honest about your distances b. When to “go for it”, when to hit to the fat of the green c. Iron play technique – differences in ball position, swing length from short irons to longer

irons and hybrids d. This clinic is a real opportunity to “amp up” the golfer experience with smaller groups

of 3-4 golfers per instructor and taking them to the course to execute your instruction on several “real” golf situations.
