Attractions• Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh Castle sits on top of what was once a volcano. It has been used as a fortification for over 2,000 years. The earliest known inhabitants of this part of the world were the Votadini.

• National Library Of Scotland.

In 1710 the copyright act of Queen Anne gave the library the right to claim a copy of every book published in Great Britain. This is a privilege which the library retains to this day, and shares with only 4 other national libraries in the UK.

• Glasgow Tower

The new 125 metres high Glasgow Tower at Pacific Quay is the highest building in Scotland and the only tower in the world which rotates through 360 degrees.

Culture• Bagpipes:A famous traditional Scottish instrument is the Great

Highland Bagpipe, a wind instrument consisting of three drones and a melody pipe, which are fed continuously by a reservoir of air in a bag.

• Kilts:The kilt is a knee-length garment with pleats at the rear,

originating in the traditional dress of men and boys in the Scottish Highlands of the 16th century.

Currency

• The pound sterling, commonly called the pound, is the official currency of the United Kingdom and its Crown Dependencies, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

Flags

• There are two Scottish flags. The national flag and the royal flag. The national flag is the one with a blue background and Saint Andrew’s cross on it. The royal flag is the one with a yellow background, a red border and a red lion.

FoodThese are some famous Scottish foods.

• Haggis

Haggis is perhaps the best known Scottish delicacy, with a rich flavour, although those eating for the first time are often put off when they hear what it is made of...

• Porridge

A simple dish, made of boiled oatmeal.

• Crowdie

A simple white cheese, made from the whey of slightly soured milk

seasoned with salt and a touch of pepper.

Highland Games• The Highland games are events held throughout

the year in Scotland and other countries as a way of celebrating Scottish and Celtic culture and heritage, especially that of the Scottish Highlands. Certain aspects of the games are so well known as to have become emblematic of Scotland, such as the bagpipes, the kilt, and the heavy events.

Languages

• Scotland has three main languages. They are Scottish English, Scottish Gaelic and Scots. “Madainn mhath ” is a morning greeting in Scottish Gaelic. “Guid efternuin” is a afternoon greeting in Scots.

Location/Map• Scotland is a country that is made up of several island

chains and a main land that is connected to the country of England. England, Scotland, and Wales are often referred to as The Isle of Britain. This isle can be found in the Atlantic ocean, and just West of the main continent of Europe. This is a map of Scotland:

National Symbols• There are many different Scottish National Symbols. But I will tell you

a couple of them:

• The Thistle is Scotland’s national flower.

• The Saltire or St. Andrew's Cross, dates from the 9th century, and is thus the oldest national flag still in use.

• The Declaration of Arbroath, (1320) Scotland Declaration of Independence.

• The unicorn is used as a heraldic symbol of Scotland. The Royal Coat of Arms of Scotland, is a lion rampant shield supported by two unicorns.

• The Honours of Scotland, the Scottish Crown Jewels, are displayed in the Crown Room of Edinburgh Castle, from where they are only removed for State Occasions.

Loch Ness Myth

• There is a myth that originated in Scotland about a mysterious creature living in the famous lake called The Loch Ness that has been named ‘The Loch Ness Monster’ or ‘Nessie’ for short. Some people think that this creature is a long-forgotten dinosaur!!!
