James Watt was a Scottish inventor and engineer He was born in Greenock on 18th January 1736In 1763 he helped improve the steam engineHis invention meant that the engines were cheaper

to run because they didn’t use as much coalThe electrical unit – watt - is named after him.

Alexander Fleming

Alexander Fleming was born in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1881

He discovered penicillin in 1928 when he found some mould in his kitchen

Other people developed this idea so that penicillin could be used as antibiotics to treat illnesses

He won the Nobel Prize in 1945.

J.K. Rowling

J.K. Rowling is most famous for writing the Harry Potter books

She was born in England but now lives in Scotland

She also wrote her Harry Potter books in a cafe in Edinburgh called The Elephant House, which has views of Edinburgh Castle from the windows.
