  • Learning Intention

    You should collect information for a factual radio show about Scottish Music. This PowerPoint will give you basic information about Scottish Music and it is your job to find out more information and develop this for your radio show script. You can also test yourself with the short test at the end.

  • Instruments The next slide contains information about Scottish Instruments. You should find out about: Fiddle, Bagpipes, Clarsach and Accordion. To develop this for your radio show you should find out: -  History of the instruments -  How they are played -  Where they are used -  An example of Scottish music they play

  • LOOK AT THE PHOTOS OF THE FOLLOWING INSTRUMENTS

  • Scottish Groups The next slide contains information about Scottish Groups. You should find out about: Pipe Band, Scottish Dance Band/Ceilidh Band and Scottish Folk Group. To develop this for your radio show you should find out: -  Instruments in each group -  Where they play -  An example of music they play

  • Look at the following groups of instruments.

    Scottish Dance Band

    Pipe Band

    Scottish Folk Group

  • Scottish Dances

    The next slide contains information about Scottish Dances. You must make sure you know the difference between Waltz, March and Reel. To develop this for your radio show you should find out:

  • Waltz

    •  3 Beats in a bar (think Om Pa Pa)

    •  Time Signature ¾

    •  Usually moderate tempo

    Tempo = Speed

  • March •  2 or 4 beats in a bar •  2/4 or 4/4 time signature

    •  Usually moderate tempo

    •  March is used for dances like the Gay Gordon’s and the Military two step.

    •  Pipe bands often use marches on parade.

  • Reel

    •  4 beats in a bar

    •  4/4 Time signature •  Fast tempo

    •  Usually made up of quavers patterns coffee rhythms =
