Official Photographers The County Fair is full of fun memories that we would like to hold onto for a lifetime. To help the memories

last, we have hired professional photographers. Make This Social will be taking candid shots all week and

uploading them to the Nebraska Extension 4-H Scotts Bluff County facebook page. (www.facebook.com/

scottsbluffco4h) Shangri La Photography will also be at the livestock shows taking photos for the Livestock

Youth Premium Sale. The 4-H Council and Extension Office want to make sure that 4-H families are

comfortable with these photos being shared online. If you are not comfortable with this, please let the

Nebraska Extension know.

Youth and Adult Fair Volunteers Needed We are needing willing participants to do the following each day of fair:

Sing the National Anthem (Contact the Extension Office)

Lead the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H Pledge.

Announcers for various shows (Adults and Older Youth)

4-H Exhibit Hall Hosts (Youth and Adults) - Sign up for an hour or more time slots to greet the public and explain 4-H.

Care To Share

In each Livestock Exhibitor Packet is a Care to Share Form. This form is used to gather suggestions and ideas for next year's fair. If you have a suggestion to better our fair, please complete this form! Have you filled this out in the past and wonder if it made a difference? Be assured that all forms are looked over closely by Jana and the rest of the staff and passed on to volunteers involved in that area. We may not be able to implement your suggestion right away, but your input is important to us!

4-H Parade Floats 4-H’ers have the opportunity to be a part of the

County Fair Parade. The Parade is a great place

for all 4-H Clubs and Families to show off their

members. You could create a float or just walk

with a club banner. Let’s show the community

that 4-H is a strong program in the area!

Livestock Superintendents

Superintendents are special 4-H experts that volunteer their time to help lead their project areas.

If you have questions or concerns throughout fair week, please contact a Nebraska Extension Staff

member or one of the superintendents in your area. Staff and Superintendents can be identified by

their green lanyards and name tags. Please take time to "Thank" these folks for all their hard work!

Barn Superintendents – Todd Neu, Ty Marker

Head Superintendents: • Sheep – Taylor Russell • Swine – Ashley Shultz • Beef – Skip Jenne • Meat Goat – Troy Jenkins • Sale – Dustin and Kate Schmer • Data Contest – Skip Jenne • Herdsmanship – June Castillo

HERDSMANSHIP

The purpose of Herdsmanship is for 4-H exhibitors to properly care for their livestock, pens & equipment, ensure safety and to keep the animals and surrounding areas clean and attractive at all times. Educational displays and public relations are also an important component of Herdsmanship. Herdsmanship judging begins when animals are entered on entry day and ends when the animal is loaded out on Sunday. Guidelines for selecting a herdsmanship winner include:

1) Animal clean at all times with grooming apparent.

2) Animals adequately cared for with proper feeding, water, clean and proper amount of bedding and adequate equipment and stalls.

3) Tack and feed area clean and neatly arranged. Fork handles and similar equipment hung, or kept in a secure and safe manner.

4) Proper courtesy and conduct shown by exhibitors at all times and at all places. All exhibitors are expected to participate in herdsmanship.

5) Exhibitors share of alley area kept clean. Wheelbarrows and equipment kept from aisle.

An educational poster may be added (optional for extra points) to the exhibitor's stall area to inform the public about their livestock project. Ideas might be: history of breed of your animal, health issues related to your project, vaccinations, nutrition....anything that might share your knowledge with the public. Due to space requirements, posters should be no larger than 14" x 22".

A volunteer will serve as superintendent for Herdsmanship and they will schedule volunteers to judge the

barns. A score sheet will be provided to each of the volunteer judges.

Winners will be announced at the annual 4‑H Achievement Celebration.

Thank you to June Castillo for volunteering as our herdsmanship superintendents.

Club Herdsmanship

We need help keeping the Livestock Pavilion and common areas of the Livestock Barn looking show ready! Each Livestock Club will need to sign up for a day to pick up trash, wipe down bleachers and empty dumpsters. We have enough clubs to have a few helping each day. Contact the Extension Office to sign up for your day. Thank you for your help!!

GREETINGS FROM YOUR SALE COMMITTEE

There are a few important changes this year when it comes to processing your animal at the conclusion of the fair.

This year, all animals will be sold per head instead of per pound as we have done in the past. We hope this

change will help to avoid any confusion during the sale. Each animal will have a resale price listed in the sale book, making buyers calculations easier on the spot.

If you are interested in bidding, but unable to attend or would like to discuss group buying options, we are

excited to announce the formation of the new Friends of Scotts Bluff County Junior Livestock Sale Buyers Group. This non-profit group is dedicated to serving the 4H and FFA Youth of Scotts Bluff County by helping the buyers. Please contact Tony Kaufman for more information 308-633-9005 or 308-641-5826

The Scotts Bluff County Sale and Livestock Committees will not be responsible for the transportation of any

animal to processors, however if you need help to arrange transportation, please contact Shain Shimic 307-575-3333. (make sure this is conveyed to potential buyers)

Many area processors have changed their services, please do not assume because you used them last year,

it will be fine this year.

There are plenty of processors still taking reservations and appointments.

Thanks for your time -please contact Kate Schmer (or any of the other sale committee members) with any questions, 308-672-5971

experience showmanship with many different

animals at the County Fair. These include:

Poultry, Rabbits, Cats, Dogs, Misc. Small Animals,

Pigs, Sheep, Goats, and Bucket Calves. These

animals need to weigh less than 350 pounds and

will not go through the sale. Clover Kids can show

that you let us know by July 24 if your family is
