WELCOMEWelcome to Desert Stages theatre, and thank you for joining us at this performance of MADAGASCAR A MUSICAL ADVENTURE, JR!

WARNING: the wild energy and joy that radiates from the stage during this show is highly contagious! Hopefully, you will soak up some of that positivity to take home with you this evening. Music, youth, smiles, color, and bright lights combine to make this show an obvious celebration of live theatre. Enjoy it! THIS is what youth theatre is all about! THIS is why Desert Stages was founded 26 years ago. THIS, with your participation and support, will continue in this space. Welcome back to live and lively youth theatre!

We still have COVID-19 safety protocols in place to keep you, our actors, and our staff safe. In return, we ask that you kindly wear your mask the entire time you are in the theatre. If you wish to meet with your friends or cast members after the show, please arrange to do so in the food court area of the mall so the lobby doesn't get congested. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Thank you again for your support of live theatre and for your attendance at this production. Whether you are seeing your 100th show or your first at DST, you are a valued member of the Desert Stages Theatre community, and we appreciate you more than you could ever know!

DIRECTOR'S LETTERMarch 2020 hit most of us like our worst nightmare. The COVID-19 pan-demic shattered the world of musical theater, for a long moment, leav-ing so many of us heartbroken by shows we never got to present, cast members we never got to say goodbye to, and a home at Desert Stages. I believe I speak for my fellow thespians when I say having it back is like being able to breathe again.

High School Musical Jr. was scheduled to open in exactly one week when we made the decision to postpone for the safety of the community. When two weeks turned into twelve months, I began to say goodbye to this thing that has been my solace since I was 10 years old. Times were changing, I graduated from Arizona State University and began my journey in graduate school, pursuing my Master’s of Advances Studies in Marriage and Family Therapy. I had figured this new path would mean the end, or at least a lengthy hiatus, to my beloved passion for perform-ing and teaching musical theater.

When DST approached me earlier this year to pioneer the production of Madagascar Jr. my heart soared after aching, for months, to be back at the theater. While I knew it would be an unorthodox return, with peculiar schedules, weird times, and some tremendous assistancefrom Sadie Krotonsky and Jamie Villarreal, I couldn’t say no. I am beyond grateful to this cast, my team, Desert Stages Staff and Faculty, and the production crew for being so patient and flexible in letting me return to the stage, my second home, that has meant so much to me as a per-former, choreographer, and director. You’re never getting rid of me now!Directing Madagascar Jr. has been more than just a pleasure. These ac-tors have persevered through it all. I watch them perform and my eyes are filled with tears of joy. I am so thankful to be back. Families, thank you again for sharing your talented kiddos with me these past eight weeks, long nights and all.

Please enjoy Madagascar Jr., and have fun. We REALLY like to “Move it, Move it!”

Warmly,Erin Tarkington Director, Madagascar Jr.

Our staff takes a personal interest in all of our dancers no matter how many classes they are signed up for. We strive on making a personal connection with everyone in order to ensure all of our dancers dreams are coming true. Whether it’s becoming a professional dancer, performer, or just someone who enjoys dance as a past time. EVERYONE of our students is important to us.

Call or email with any questions you may have for us. All we want is to watch your Childrens dream come true. And to be able to experience our dancers successes and emotional growth makes it all worth while. 13610 N. Scottsdale Rd. Suite#20
