Page 1: SCRIBE: WEEKEND ON THE HOT SEAT SCHEDULEmedia.lehighvalleylive.com/sports_impact/other/fearless... · 2016. 11. 15. · nearly each day from my tent at Voorhees State Park. I prob-ably

competition held Oct. 5 inJackson, N.J. Wilmott properlybagged 26 items to secure hisspot in the national competi-tion for the second straightyear.

I was genuinely excitedwhen I heard the news aboutJames. I’ve even hung his pic-ture in my tent at VoorheesState Park, right next to myJeff Bagwell baseball card; aphoto of John Bagley, my fa-vorite NBA player, and a printof my all-time favorite race cardriver of all time, Bags Carter.

All we can say, James, iskeep baggin’ baby, and we’ll bepulling for you out in Las Ve-gas. And the next time I’mpushing my comatose DodgeDart into the parking lot at theGreenwich ShopRite, I’ll besure to introduce myself.

Speaking of shout-outs,how about my boys up inBlairstown Township, theNorth Warren Patriots? Theyimproved to 5-0 last week, and construction is currentlyunder way on the bronze stat-ue of coach Matt Parzero, which will be strategicallyplaced right outside the entry-way into the school sometimein mid-February, if everythinggoes according to budget.

And a special commenda-tion is in order for first-yearcoach Phil Stambaugh and hisboys at Pius X, who have ral-lied to win three straightgames after an 0-3 start. TheRoyals are also 2-0 in the All-American League.

Didn’t the ClevelandBrowns once play in that con-ference before they joined theNFL?

Anyway, enough of thisdrivel. Let’s talk football.Tonight’s games

Easton at Emmaus — RedRovers step up in competitionafter blowing out Dieruff lastweek. While the game won’thave an impact on the LehighValley Conference race, it willin the District 11 Class AAAAplayoff chase. Easton 16-7.

Liberty at Dieruff — Hur-ricanes seemed to have right-ed themselves after a three-game losing streak. WinlessDieruff, meanwhile, is playingon a different planet. Liberty41-6.

Nazareth at Freedom —Blue Eagles coach RobMelosky is going up against ateam that he once coached.Speaking of Melosky, doesn’the resemble UCLA coachRick Neuheisel a little bit?Nazareth 21-14.

Palmerton at Bangor —Scott LaValva may be back forthe Slaters but with or withouthim, they’ll still have enoughto get by the Bombers. Bangor24-18.

Saucon Valley at NotreDame — It’s 34 losses andcounting for the Crusaders.Saucon Valley is coming off itsfirst win of the season. Haveto like the team with momen-tum. Saucon Valley 27-14.

Salisbury at Palisades —Do not operate heavy machin-ery while watching this game.May cause drowsiness. Pal-isades 14-0.

Wilson at Southern Lehigh

— Spartans are fast, physicaland could give Warriors prob-lems out of their wing-T of-fense, which spreads the ballaround to as many as nine dif-ferent ball carriers. SouthernLehigh 24-16.

Dayton Regional atBelvidere — Steve Mottolamight get the ball, oh, 35-40times. But it won’t be enough.Dayton Regional 14-7.

Delaware Valley at NorthPlainfield — Bobby Lake, coach of the Canucks, oncehad some bit parts as an actorin “The Sopranos.” Del Valcoach Mike Columbo lookslike he’d fit right into the se-ries, too. Delaware Valley 20-19.

Scotch Plains at Voorhees— I watch Voorhees practicenearly each day from my tentat Voorhees State Park. I prob-ably shouldn’t be saying thisbut I saw my homies workingon “the fumblerooskie” playlate one afternoon. TheRaiders won’t know what hitthem. Voorhees 12-7.

Somerville at Warren Hills— Blue Streaks coach LarryDubiel coached Somerville inthe late 1980s and early ’90sand also coached some power-house Pioneer track and fieldprograms up until a few yearsago. Somerville 17-7.

Hanover Park at Hack-ettstown — This is a real toss-up with each team beatingseveral common opponents byvirtually the same margin.Tigers are home, though.Hackettstown 14-13.Saturday’s games

Northampton at Bethle-hem Catholic — This game isbeing moved to Notre Damein the afternoon which bringsup a sore point with me. It’sabout time Notre Damenames its football complexTony Koury Field. Northamp-ton 20-10.

Catasauqua at Pen Argyl— Alumni Stadium in Pen Ar-gyl is one of the most scenicplaces to watch a footballgame. Can’t beat that view ofthe Waste Management Land-fill. Pen Argyl 21-12.

Pius X at Montour Vo-Tech— This is an All-AmericanLeague game so both teamswill be breaking out the finechina for this one. Pius X 31-19.

North Warren at New Prov-idence — New Providence istoughest opponent on Patriots’schedule. They’re on the road, but this won’t be first timeNorth Warren has played therole of party crasher (see Sept.10 vs. Warren Hills). Theseare my guys and I’m stickingwith them. North Warren 15-

14.Lehigh at Harvard — Har-

vard is the favorite but youhave to love that chest-

bumpin’ maven Andy Coenand his Mountain Hawks. Notbad vertical lift for coach, ei-ther. Lehigh 24-20.

Stony Brook at Lafayette— Don’t try to confuse mewith the facts or the Leopards’0-5 record. I’m sticking out mybag for Frank Tavani and hisplayers. Lafayette 28-27.

Franklin & Marshall atMoravian — Diplomats willbe anything but Diplomatic incoach John Troxell’s return tothe Lehigh Valley … F&M 23-6.

East Stroudsburg at C.W.Post — Where’s Pace whenyou need it? Dicey matchupfor the Warriors, who are onthe road lugging behind a five-game losing streak. C.W. Post34-24.

Muhlenberg at McDaniel —Mules seemed to have foundtheir voice and their stride.McDaniel is usually toughplace to play out in the west-ern Maryland panhandle but Ibelieve. Muhlenberg 26-17.

Army at Rutgers — ScarletKnights are a touchdown fa-vorite, which makes me a littlenervous since Rutgers lost to20-point underdog Tulane twoweeks ago. But … Rutgers 27-20.
