Hi, I’m Andy from Earth Channel. A very good morning to

everyone and all. Today we’re going to discuss about air pollution.

The air quality is extremely important to us, yet the pollution is

getting worse day to day. Today, I’m honoured to interview

Professor Tai on the issue of air pollution, the causes and the way

to solve air pollution. Professor Tai, is a professor at Malaya

University, Faculty of Environment.

Professor Tai : Hi, Andy and a very good morning to everyone.

Interviewer : There is not everyone in today’s world, who can answer the

question “What Is Air Pollution” clearly. Professor Tai, can you

explain the definition of air pollution clearly.

Professor Tai : Yes, of course.

Air pollution is the addition of harmful chemicals, toxins,

particulate and other biological materials in the air which

lead to discomfort to living beings on the surface of earth

damaging the environment.

Interviewer: Professor Tai, what is the effects of air pollution to the human

being life?

Professor Tai: For the human being part, the air pollution will cause the

people respirating disease fatigue and decreased visual

activity.

The schools will close when the air pollution index is above

300.

Interviewer: What about the effect to the environment?

Professor Tai: The air pollution will cause acid rain, global warming and ozone

depletion for the environment.

Interviewer: It’s very obvious that the air pollution will affect our daily activity to

getting worse. Professor Tai, what are the causes of air pollution?

Professor Tai: One of the major causes is carbon dioxide which is one of

the highest emitted pollutant in nature as living beings

exhale it. It is released by oil and chemical industries.

Carbon monoxide is yet another harmful gas which is

released because of fuel burning appliances like

automobiles, water heaters and others.

Besides, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide are two more

harmful air pollutants.

Sulfur dioxide, is released because of petroleum refineries.

Whereas nitrogen dioxide is usually emitted because of

nuclear power points.

Other causes are bushfire and open burning.

Interviewer: What about the air pollution causes by natural?

Professor Tai: There are a number of natural causes of air pollution.

Volcanic eruptions can put dust and gases into the

atmosphere.

Bushfires and dust storms can engulf the air in smoke and

dust.

Swamp bacteria can create hydrogen sulphide and

methane-a green house gas.

Even cows, sheep and other farm animals produce

methane through their waste.

Interviewer: It is essential to know the causes of air pollution in order to look for

methods to prevent them. So , I would like to invite Professor Tai

to suggest some ways to solve and prevent air pollution by some

simple and effective ways.

Professor Tai: The ways to solve pollution can be divided into three major parts.

The three parts are family, society and transportation.

Interviewer: Professor Tai, could you explain how we can prevent air pollution

for family part?

Professor Tai: For the family part, we can save electricity by using

compact fluorescent lights and solar equipment.

Besides, the housewife can convert a propane grill to

natural gas to cook.

We can use the air pollution control equipment systems to

check on the pollution caused.

Use recyclable product, organic product to prevent the

creation of waste so there will be less need to burn rubbish

to get rid of it.

Besides, also purchase low energy appliances.

Interviewer: How about the transportation part?

Professor Tai: When possible, walk or bike to close by work locations.

Use of carpool or mass transit.

Service your vehicles on time and always insist on cleaning

air filters.

Switch off your vehicles while waiting.

Interviewer: The last part is society, Professor Tai please suggest some

prevention of air pollution for this part.

Professor Tai: Of course, our local authorities should run random check

on the impose hefty fines.

The last but not least the non-government organisation

can conduct public education such as plan a tree and

prevention of smoke.

Interviewer: Thank you Professor Tai for spending your time with us today.

Professor Tai: You are welcome,

I hope my speech today has given you some information

on air pollution and

some of the measures that we can do to help prevent it.

Interviewer: Thank you Professor Tai. If every human being takes pains to

ensure that their daily activities do not cause pollution, then

perhaps we can save the earth for future generation. So ,let us all

do our part to save this earth. Remenber that earth is our home.

Thank you.
