The three-day festival – opened last Friday by Exmouth’s outgoing mayor Councillor Bill Nash – was attended by more than 2,000 people and raised funds for Exmouth RNLI. “We did a quality event, with quality cider, qual- ity food and quality acts, and I think that shone through with people,” said organ- iser Jeremy Sellick. “We had lots of good feedback from the public and the traders that were there. “In terms of attendance, the best day was the Saturday. It was a bit quiet on the Sunday [pirate day]. It wasn’t quite the turn-out we’d hoped for, but we only started selling tick- ets two and a half months before the event, so next year we’re going to start publicising it earlier. “We had a licence for 3,000, so it would have been nicer to have had more people there, but unfortunately such is life. The weather was fantastic all weekend. We were lucky. What we were trying to do was not be weather dependent, so that’s why we had a large marquee. “We’re bringing something that’s unique. It’s not just a pitch-up and have a barbecue and a beer festival. We’re trying to do something a little specialised that I think will only grow.” Plans are afoot for next year’s Scrumpstock on the same site. “We may have a slightly differ- ent site plan, but nothing drastic,” said Sellick. “We’re here for the long haul. We’ve got a good formula. We’ve all been to festi- vals and shows where they charge you a fortune to get in, and you get a load of rubbish. “What we’re striving to do is have a quality event that’s not going to be ridiculously expensive.” Paul Strange [email protected] We did a quality event, with quality cider, quality food and quality acts, and that shone through with people.
