TWO FLUID NOZZLE

The stainless steel spray assemblyconsists of an inner tube for the liquidsample leading to a small diameter jet.An outer tube directs the supply ofcompressed air to the nozzle and theclose tolerance gap between the nozzleand the jet ensures a fine vaporisedspray. The SD-Basic is supplied as standard with 0.5 mm jet and other

sizes are available as accessories.

The spray assembly incorporates amanual de-blocking device thatprevents the jet nozzle from becomingblocked. De-blocking is sometimesnecessary with materials which maysolidify or when large particles insuspension cause blockages in the jet.

CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONALITY

The unit is designed to ensure that allfunctions are simple to select andadjust, to quickly achieve the optimumconditions for Spray Drying. A simple

digital controller allows selection of theinlet temperature and a rotary knobcontrols the pump speed. A digitaldisplay of the outlet temperature is alsoincluded.

CONSTRUCTION

The chemically resistant paintedhousing includes the blower, heater andthe controls for inlet temperature andpump speed. The drying air volume isfixed at 70m3/hr.

APPLICATIONS

Spray drying can be used in a widerange of applications where theproduction of a free-flowing powdersample is required. This technique hassuccessfully processed materials in thefollowing areas:

Food and Drink - Flavours andColourings - Milk and Egg ProductsPharmaceuticals - Polymers and Resins - Perfumes - Ceramics andAdvanced Materials - Soaps andDetergents - Dyestuffs - Adhesives andmany others.

TECHNIQUE

A self-priming peristaltic pump deliversthe liquid sample from a containerthrough a small diameter jet into themain chamber. At the same timecompressed air* enters the outer tubeof the jet which causes the liquid toemerge as a fine atomised spray intothe drying chamber.

Heated air is blown through the main

chamber evaporating the liquid contentof the atomised spray. The solidparticles of the material, which arenormally in a free flowing state, are then separated from the exhaust airflow by a cyclone and collected in thesample collection bottle. The exhaust airflow is directed through a flexible 50mm diameter hose direct to atmosphereor to an existing extraction system.
