Project OverviewStimulate five wells located 60 miles offshore in Ghana, in order to increase production with limited capital investment.

IssueProduction of the client’s wells had decreased significantly due to a combination of fines mobilization, calcium carbonate, and scale accumulation.

The Oceaneering PlanTo provide the most economical solution, Oceaneering proposed a dual-vessel stimulation plan. The Multi-Purpose Service Vessel (MPSV) deployed the coiled tubing, crane operations, dual Millennium® work class ROVs, and well stimulation tool, while the well stimulation vessel provided the fluids and pumping for the stimulation. Four Oceaneering innovative Open-Water Coiled Tubing units were mobilized on the MPSVc, in order to provide up to 16 bpm (barrel per minute) flow rate to the well stimulation tool.

This competency demonstrates a subsea engineer has acquired and applied knowledge of subsea well intervention principles, equipment and operations for subsea well intervention, including intervention from a light well intervention vessel.

ELEMENT OF COMPETENCE WHAT THIS COMPETENCE MEANS IN PRACTICE

INDICATORS OF ATTAINMENT

Refer to only as many Indicators of Attainment as you need to demonstrate the Element of Competence

Working knowledge of appropriate statutory, regulatory, industry and customer requirements for subsea well intervention.

Applies appropriate engineering and industry best practice or recommended practices for preparation, testing and execution of subsea well intervention.

Has participated in a 3rd party verification (DNV-GL, Lloyds, ABS, etc.) or client safety and operational review of a subsea well intervention program.

Working knowledge of safety case requirements and emergency response plan for subsea well intervention.

Can contribute to operational aspects of a safety case.

Can identify and describe safeguards against emergency situations that could arise such as hydrocarbon release, DP drive off or drift off, loss of power, loss of communications, and dropped objects.

Has contributed to developing a safety case.

Has participated in HAZID and HAZOP reviews of subsea well intervention procedures.

Working knowledge of well barrier requirements and proving of isolations.

Can write or review an isolation testing procedure. Has written or reviewed operational intervention procedures.

Working knowledge of subsea tree systems and well completions

Can describe completions used for horizontal and vertical subsea tree systems and down-hole completion configurations.

Has undertaken specific training on subsea well completions for horizontal and vertical subsea tree systems.

Has three years working on subsea tree systems and down-hole completions, of which at least 1 year was on an offshore rotation.

Knowledge of well intervention activities such as;

● Wireline set and/or retrieve plug/s or straddles

Can describe and document these well intervention activities, their application and limitation.

Has participated in drafting or reviewing procedures for at least three of these intervention activities.

The ICC's main application window, shown below, may be minimized or resized as desired in the same way asa typical Windows program.
