Cersaie and Tecnargilla: the world comes to Italy
The 34th edition of Cersaie is about to get under way, and for the third year running it is extending the range of prod-ucts on display to coverings in marble, natural stone and wood. The definitive figures for Cer-saie 2015, moreover, confirm that this was a sound deci-sion, which has contributed to the international charac-ter of the event: of a total of 872 exhibitors last year, 37% were from abroad, represent-ing 39 different countries. The attendance figures for in-ternational trade operators also speak volumes: out of a total of 101,809 visitors (+8% on 2014), 48,231 came from outside Italy.
The Italian ceramic industry also put in a good perfor-mance in 2015, with reve-
nues of over 5.1 billion euros (+4.1%) generated by pro-duction plants in Italy, plus another 792 million euros generated by the 16 foreign-registered companies manu-facturing in North America and Europe, but owned by nine Italian groups.Output rose too, with 395 mil-lion square metres of tile coming out of Italian-based factories (up 3.4% on 2014) and over 82 million square metres coming out of foreign subsidiaries’ plants (up 6.6%).
The driving force behind the Italian ceramic industry is still innovation aimed at creat-ing high-value-added prod-ucts. This is backed up by invest-ment in new technology, which rose a further 22.7% in 2015, confirming the growing
climate of confidence among business people, as also highlighted by Vittorio Borelli, Chairman of Confin-dustria Ceramica.
On the subject of investment in technology, the 25th edi-tion of Tecnargilla, taking place in Rimini at the same time as Cersaie in Bologna, is another major attraction for ceramic industry entrepre-neurs from all over the world. In fact, the Rimini-based trade fair is now getting ready to present the largest and most innovative selec-tion of technology in the world, all under one roof. As an indication of just how in-ternational Tecnargilla is, the last edition (held in 2014 be-cause it is a biennial event) received visitors from 101 countries, and foreign exhibi-
tors accounted for 40% of the total.
Tecnargilla 2016, dedicated to technologies for the pro-duction of ceramic and re-fractory materials - which the Italian Ministry of Economic Development has given its support by adding it to the list of trade fairs of national importance to Italian manu-facturing - will be accompa-nied by three additional exhi-bitions sections: Kromatech, encompassing pigment pro-ducers, design studios and raw materials manufacturers; Claytech, dedicated to ma-chinery and equipment for the heavy clay industry; and T-White, a new display area specifically for plant and ma-chinery for the production of ceramic sanitaryware and tableware. 5
