Topic 5: - Newsletter Needs Photos and or Articles of interest

The newsletter editor (Terry Schuller) is asking for some help from the membership as she is trying to

place a members car and a short article about the car on the front cover of the clubs newsletter so if you

can provide a couple of photos for her to use and a short note or story about the vehicle she would be

very appreciative. Terry is also looking for anyone who wants to take a few photos on any of the clubs

drives or events or adventures they take with their British vehicle and possibly write an article of the event

so others who did not attend can see what the membership is doing. You do not have to be a writer or a

good speller or outgoing to have an article published in our clubs news letter as Terry will format it and

clean it up so that it will work with any photos you might provide or that others provide to her. Terry can be

contacted at the following email address: [email protected] . You can also contact any of the board

members to submit photos or articles you might have that would be of interest to our members. I have to

say it is really neat to see your vehicle on the front of the newsletter that Terry puts out for the club and its

CCBCC UPCOMING EVENTS Teddy Bear Run and Luncheon

November 6, 2016 The 27th annual CCBCC Teddy Bear Run for the Douglas Penfield School in Saticoy, CA. This has been an annual event for many years for the Central Coast British Car Club. Not only is this a great driving experience for the participants, it also provides the Douglas Penfield School with new stuffed Teddy Bear toys. The Bears are distributed to the students at the school’s Christmas Holiday Party in December. The staff at the school matches the students to the stuffed toy bears according to their individual needs. The recommended size is approx. 12 inches, not too large and not too small. We meet at 640 Jasmine Avenue for tire kicking and a photo op of us, our cars and the Bears. You may arrive anytime from 9-10am. The school collects the Bears and we leave promptly at 10:00 am on a beautiful drive to a lunch designation. The drive will be picturesque and may challenge your driving skills if you want to participate at that level. Otherwise, you will enjoy a gentle drive along with your closest British car enthusiasts.

The Douglas Penfield school serves students from kindergarten to fifth grade with moderate to severe disabilities. Staff use evidenced-based instructional strategies to teach the functional skills that will maximize independence for the students. The staff decides which bear is the best one for each student. On Friday Dec. 9th there is a Christmas Party lunch at the School. Volunteers are needed to help prepare the lunch that is provided for the students. Usually it is a Spaghetti lunch. The students are given their teddy bear at this event. Please consider coming out on Nov. 6th even if you don’t bring a British car. It is a worthwhile event. The staff of the school are very appreciative of what we do.

The annual CCBCC Christmas Brunch will be held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel on Sunday Dec. 4h from 10:30 am to 3 pm. We will have a room all set up for just the club. The brunch buffet will be the food. It was so delicious last year, with so much food to select from. The price is $20.00 for paid up members. Non-paid up members will pay $40.00. The extra proceeds from the July car show this year will subsidize the members Christmas brunch. There will be a “White Elephant” Gift Exchange. This is the type of gift exchange where you find a gift that you have received in the past and re-gift it at this luncheon. Please do not go out and purchase a gift, we are sure you have something you got as a gift in the past that you just can not use or do not want around collecting dust. If you received something last year you may re wrap it and use it this year. There are a number of white elephants out there that keep re appearing every Christmas. If you absolutely have nothing to bring, then purchase something like a gag gift. In the spirit of giving there will be a collection of gifts for the Rain Project in Camarillo. Here is their wish list:

All Toiletries, (large shampoos and conditioners) (men and women), towels, laundry detergent, (liquid), bed in a bag (twin)

RAIN (River Dwellers’ Aid Intercity Network) Transitional Living Center began in 1997 in anticipation of El Nino. The purpose was to establish a Transitional Living Center for displaced river bottom dwellers, but the facility also served as the County’s Winter Warming Shelter during the winter of 1997-98. The project was initially located at the old Camarillo State Hospital site and provided 36 beds on a daily basis.

In June 1998, the State of California took over the Camarillo State Hospital site to begin its transition to a University, and the shelter was then moved to a smaller facility at Camarillo Airport. This facility provided housing for 70 individuals and continued to operate 7 days/week 24 hours/day.

In December 2003, the shelter was relocated to a larger and newly renovated facility at 1732 S Lewis Rd in Camarillo. The current facility can provide transitional living for 65-75 individuals, depending on family composition. Services include meals, transportation assistance, access to public and mental health services, parenting and self-sufficiency classes, mandatory savings program, job search assistance, housing search assistance, and recovery support.

A Bridge to Permanent Housing Since 1997, the RAIN Transitional Living Center (RAIN) has provided housing and services to families and single adults in Ventura County, California, to help with the transition from homelessness to permanent housing.

Serving up to 70 people at a time in a home-like setting in Camarillo, RAIN provides nutritious meals; intensive case management services; employment assistance including transportation to work; life skills courses on topics such as money management, parenting, and relapse prevention; and privately-funded enrichment programs for children. Please consider donating any of the items listed or any other personal care item. Please fill out the next page and return with your check to attend.

Late Breaking News Pismo Wine tour Feb. 10-12, 2017

Next years CCBCC car show will be Sunday July 16, 2017. The Channel Islands Harbor has been reserved. Mark your calendars for this great event. The club is looking for someone to run the car show. In the past it was done by Martin Keller and Jim Hill. Martin has reserved the date with the Channel Islands Harbor; but will not be able to do anything else for the car show. There were many many club members who helped out this last year and I am sure there will be the same number or more next year. A volunteer for this position will have lots of help. The club needs someone to keep track of everything for this event. Martin will pass along everything to make it a smooth transition. Please step up and offer to be the car show committee chair.

Being this year’s Tartan Surfboard winners, we were obligated to show our 1954 Triumph TR2 both days of the Seaside Highland Games at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. By obligated, I don’t mean it was an imposition. Pam and I had never attended before and we were looking forward to seeing what it was all about. Of course, free parking and admission (for anyone who showed a car) made it that much more worth it! We arrived at about 9:30am on Saturday to find lots of cars already there. Martin Keller had his GT6, C. Darryl Struth had his TR4, Gary Cooper has his Triumph 1800, Daisy Tatum with her friend Franco had her Jaguar E-Type and Leonard and Judy Halpin had their MGB. We got to park our car front and center, and Paul Keener brought the Tartan Surfboard to put in the passenger’s seat. There was a large Easy-Up with our CCBCC banner behind it and a table where we put registration forms for anyone with a British car looking for a place to have fun (we had about a half dozen people take registration forms and show real interest, so maybe we’ll have some new members soon!). Shortly after we set up, Patrick and Gloria Redd arrived in their Mini. Junie Cooper also arrived to join the fun. After chatting for a bit, Pam and I wandered thru the Quonset buildings looking at the booths. We had fun looking up our family names at the Irish and Scottish registry. We then headed down to watch some of the games. We saw men tossing the Caber – a 16 foot pole that weighed 65 lbs. They had to hold it upright and flip it end-for-end and land it on the ground such that it fell away from them. We also saw men doing the sheaf toss, putting the stone and tossing weights. It was fun to watch, but all I could think about was “hernia”! We decided to head home around 12:30pm. We left our car in Paul’s good hands. He covered it for us overnight and had his RV parked within sight of it. On Sunday, we got there about 11:30am. Mike and Sandra Gustafson were there in their MGB as was Jon Seghi in his TR4. Martin, Gary, Daisy and Leonard and Judy were back for another day of fun. We wanted to see the sheep dog herding, so we headed to the arena with Mike and Sandra. The guy who did the announcing was also the trainer and did a fantastic job describing what we were seeing and how the dogs were trained. And speaking of the dogs, they were amazing. They obeyed the trainer to a tee, and reacted promptly to both his voice and whistle commands. Between the trainer and the dogs, they could make the sheep do whatever they wanted. On the way back, we stopped to listen to the Ploughboys and The Angry Brians – two different Scottish/Celtic rock bands. They were pretty good! We got some fish and chips for lunch and went back to the cars to hang out and eat. We all decided to pack it in shortly after 3pm. While the weather was beautiful all weekend, the wind was starting to pick up a bit more. While we won’t win the Tartan Surfboard again next year, we’ll certainly go again as it was a lot of fun. If you haven’t been before, be sure to mark it on your calendar and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

ReCap of Malamut Museum

Seven cars and 10 people showed up at the Camarillo Park and Ride. We headed over Potrero Rd. to Newbury Park. We had a delicious breakfast at Pickles Restaurant, were we were met by 2 others. Off to the Malamut, a quick 10 minute ride. We were joined by 6 others there. Our group and the Corvette club were greeted with warm chocolate cookies, chips and salsa and drinks. Barbara and Michael Malamut are wonderful hosts. Most of us spent over 2 hours viewing cars, furniture, neon signs, collections of Bob’s Bigboy memorabilia and Pep Boys memorabilia. Everyone had a great time so we will probably plan this trip again in the next year or year and a half. Enjoy the pictures.

I am attempting to put out a newsletter every month, there may be times I miss a month due to being away. The newsletter is a vital piece of communication to keep members informed of what is happening within our club and lists events that are happening that may be of interest to club members. I would like to feature one member’s British car on the cover of each newsletter. If you would like your ride displayed on the cover, please send me a high resolution picture of it in a nice place (not just the parking lot at work!!) to [email protected]
