HOW TO PRODUCE A SEASONAL PROGRAM
Coming up with an idea
- What makes an idea good?
- Something you're interested in, passionate about, knowledgeable about
- You don't have to be an expert about it - you just have to be passionate about it
- Be authentic, genuine
What is your mission?
- Why are you doing the show?
- Not good: "I want to do a show about online dating because I'm on Tinder and I have some funny
stories"
- Better: "I want to do a show about online dating because I want to deconstruct the idea that online
dating is for losers and also to explore issues surrounding this including age, race and gender"
PLANNING
Season two is our longest season of the year (13 weeks)
Planning is essential to making the most of your time and to
ensure your show will sound as professional as possible
Start big (as big as possible) and make it smaller
1. Brainstorm every idea (big or small) you ever possibly
want to talk about
2. Break these ideas into 13 broad themes = these are your
episodes
3. Each episode = break it down into individual segments
