Questions? Visit www.pesihealthcare.com/faqs, or call 800-844-8260M r. Jones is day 2 on the telemetry unit where he had been admitted following flu symptoms with nausea

and vomiting. He was seen by the physician this a.m. and is scheduled for discharge when suddenly his monitor alarms from ventricular fibrillation. What happened? What did we miss?

There has been a paradigm shift in how we care for our cardiac population. In the past, we focused on episodic care. Care for the cardiac patient needs to incorporate the additional focus on the continuum of care. This conference will discuss the care of the cardiac patient from the acute event, initiation of secondary prevention therapies, cardiac rehab referrals, preventing re-admissions, and improving the quality of life for cardiac patients.

Robin Gilbert, MSN, RN, CEN, CPEN, is currently the manager of a cardiac rehab program, as well as manager of education, at Central Maine Medical Center. Bringing with her over 25 years of practice, her background includes extensive emergency nursing and management experiences. She has gained expertise to address the variety of challenges present in our cardiac patient populations from admission to discharge, seeing firsthand the barriers to referrals and financial obstacles, as well as the educational opportunities that can improve patient outcomes. Throughout the roles she has served in, Robin has worked collaboratively with cardiac/cardiac rehab staff, respiratory, physical therapy, and medical staff to improve appropriate referrals. Additionally, Robin has worked alongside various interdisciplinary teams in preparation for and the accomplishment of cardiac rehab certification. Her experience also includes having been an item writer for the Board Certification of Emergency Nursing and a former Chairperson. Robin is an active member of the Emergency Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and is a reviewer for the ANCC’s Pathway to Excellence program.

Speaker Disclosures:

Financial: Robin Gilbert has an employment relationship with Central Maine Medical Center and Rumford Hospital. She receives a speaking honorarium from PESI, Inc.
