PURPOSEOffer a master’s program on
Jesuit/Ignatian Education and Pedagogy for educators, especially but not exclusively, of the Jesuit secondary/pre-secondary schools in the world. This is a program to introduce participants, systematically, to the topic and prepare them to work meaningfully on the identity and mission of our Jesuit schools worldwide.
NEED FOR THE PROGRAMNobody is offering a program focused on Jesuit Education/Ignatian Pedagogy
Lay companions in charge of our schools are yearning for a strong academic program that can prepare and empower them for the job.
Some young Jesuits are looking for formation in this important and traditional ministry of the Society. The present call for more international networking will benefit from a program like this, training educators with a common language and project.
There are often enquiries from all corners of the Society and the schools looking from a program like this.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONSProgram can be offered through several Jesuit Universities in different continents. It will be the result of international collaboration. The courses could also be offered to participants not pursuing the master’s program but interested in the topic of a specific course.
The program will touch on the historical, philosophical, leadership, spiritual, pedagogical and administrative aspects of Jesuit Education. This should be offered, mainly or totally, via online so that it can be really open to all of our schools.
Ideal: The course should be at least offered in the three official languages of the Society: English, Spanish and French.
This should be conceived as an experiential learning that includes the spiritual roots of Jesuit education (for instance, some sort of Spiritual Exercises should be included in the program, some prayer practice too). The program should have, from the start, a global perspective of Jesuit education encouraging collaboration with other participants in other countries/continents/schools.
The program should embody the pedagogy that it teaches… WALK THE TALK!!!
WHERE ARE WE NOW?
AUSJAL is considering to be part of this project.
The University Ramon Llull and the Cova Sant Ignasi from Catalonia, Spain are highly interested in the project. Both have made a combined
proposal “to offer our institutions as collaborators in the training for pedagogical leadership of the directors of the Society of Jesus in the context of the International Master’s Degree Programme on Ignatian
Pedagogy.”
The School of Education at Loyola-Chicago is interested in hosting the program and in collaborating with other Universities in the Jesuit network.
