their 2nd straight Class AA title. The
Raiders jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the
1st quarter. Joe Ramos intercepted a pass
and returned it 45 yards for a TD and a
12-0 lead.
12 Panthers Pull Out Win
Sweet Home scored twice in the final
five minutes to beat South Park 27-18
and win the Class A title game. The
Panthers trailed 18-14 and faced a 4th-
and-goal from South Park’s 15-yard line
with just under five minutes to play.

Championship game 40-34 over Bennett

Randolph won the Class D title with a
28-0 win over Ellicottville-Franklinville.
Randolph opened the game by forcing a
punt and taking over on their own 30-
yard line. The Cardinals proceeded to
drive 70 yards on 14 plays.
Jamestown’s Langworthy HonoredJamestown’s Tom Langworthy was named Coach of
the Week by the Buffalo Bills and the National Guardafter his Red Raiders won the Class AA championshipwith a 34-14 win over Orchard Park last weekend.
The Raiders led 21-0 after one quarter.“I didn't feel comfortable until we were winning 34-7
in the fourth quarter,” Langworthy said. “As a coach,you are always thinking of everything that can happen.I never count my chickens before they are hatched.”
Jamestown led 28-0 at the half, on the strength of 2interceptions that were returned for a TD.
Joe Ramos intercepted a pass and returned it 45yards for a TD togive Jamestownan early 14-0lead. Late in thequarter, with theQuakers backedup to their own 1-yard line, KyleLiuzzo rushed theQB, batted theball into the airand caught it inthe end zone foranother defensiveTD an te 28-0lead they tookinto the half.
“I challengedour players athalftime to play agreat secondhalf,” Langworthysaid, “and I thinkwe played prettywell.”
Orchard Park scored in the 3rd quarter to pull within28-7 but Jamestown answered early in the 4th quarter.
The Raiders stopped a 4th-down play at OP’s 24-yard line and took possession. On their first play fromscrimmage Devan Jackson broke over the right sidefor a 24-yard TD and a 34-7 lead.
Jamestown won the Section 6 title last season, butlost to Aquinas in the Far West Regional game.
“We have goals to go farther than we did last year,”Langworthy said. “We plan on competing hard andbeing successful this Saturday.”
The Raiders will play in the Far West Regionalgame at 8 pm Saturday at All High Stadium in Buffaloagainst Section 5 champion Victor.
“We feel good and confidant,” Langworthy said. “We
have a great defense, we play solid on special teamsand we are putting up points. We have to have a greatweek of practice and go out and play hard this week-end.”
Langworthy played high school football from 1995through 1998 at nearby Southwestern High School. Hewas named a Class D All-State LB in his senior year.
Langworthy played college football at MercyhurstCollege (now University) in Erie, Pa. After graduating,he took a volunteer coaching role at Southwesternunder Jay Sirianni. He left after two seasons becausehe landed a job teaching in the Jamestown District.
Ironically,Sirianni has 4players on thisseason’sSouthwesternteam who grewup in theJamestownDistrict beforemoving toSouthwestern.
“We laughabout it,”Langworthy said.“Jay's doing prettywell with our kids.I’ve known Jaymy whole life.”
While teachingat Jamestown,Langworthyworked as anassistant JVcoach for 2 sea-sons. He applied
for the varsity head job when it came open before the2008 season.
“The opportunity came open and I thought I coulddo the job,” he said. “I had the enthusiasm and therelationship with the other coaches and the currentplayers. I thought I was ready for it.”
Langworthy’s staff has been with him throughoutthe years of re-building Jamestown into a recognizedprogram across New York State. Ryan Calkins(Defensive Coordinator), Richie Joly (DBs and QBs)and Dave Munella (RBs) round out the staff.
“They do an incredible job,” Langworthy said. “Theyare just as much a part of this as I am.”
Langworthy and his wife Amy have two sons, Noah(age 2) and Grant (6 months).

Canisius overcame a week of turmoil in the football program
and the school and destroyed St. Francis 62-19 in the Msgr.
Martin Association semifinals last night.
“Our kids started slow,” coach Rich Robbins said. “With
everything that has gone on this week, I expected it.”
Canisius was tied with St. Francis 13-13 with about 6 min-
utes left in the second quarter when the Crusaders exploded.
“We want to start fast
every week,” Robbins said.
“The distractions this week
were incredible. We did not
have a very good practice
on Monday, that’s for sure.”
The Crusaders scored 4
TDs before the halftime
break and added two more
early in the 3rd quarter to
take a 55-13 lead.
The only thing left
unknown were the facts
surrounding the firestorm
that has swirled at the
school this week.
It started on Monday
when Canisius announced
that star LB Brad Zaffram
would not play again this
season due to a violation of
school rules. The situation
quickly escalated when
Beck O’Connor, the
school’s Dean of Students
and the JV football coach
was fired from both posi-
tions and escorted from the
building.
“He was the JV coach
for 8 years,” Robbins said.
“All of our kids had him and
they were close to him.”
The firing of O’Connor
unleashed a flurry of spec-
ulation and rumor that
made its way around social media. Rumors that this was a major
scandal involving the football program started quickly. More
rumors that Robbins had been fired followed in a wave.
All of a sudden, instead of basking in the glow of being
ranked 37th in the nation, the Crusaders were in a crisis.
“We had a team meeting on Monday,” Robbins said. “The
kids wanted to handle this with class and pride. We wanted to
come out and represent our school and our program with pride.”
On Wednesday, news broke that O’Connor was seeking a
lawyer. Then the Canisius students staged a protest in front of
the school.
“We really can’t get into any of that,” Robbins said. “I’ve
been told not to answer any questions about Beck O’Connor. We
can’t control anything about that anyway. All we can do is play
football. That’s the only thing we have control over.”
Wednesday afternoon, rumors started that the Canisius princi-
pal had resigned. Canisius athletic director, Jim Mauro, said at
Thursday game that it was not true.
“I was at the school until 6:30 and he was still the principal,”
Mauro said. “When I left for the game, nothing had changed as
far as that goes.”
Mauro did not want to
speak on the turmoil but
did say that he was proud
of the team.
“It was a very chal-
lenging week,” Mauro
said. “I’m proud of how
the kids came out and
played. Brad was a brother
to them. This is a tight
group and they are hurt-
ing. They came out and
played hard.”
One Canisius source
who is close to the situa-
tion says that the entire
situation has spun out of
control.
“This entire situation
was handled poorly,” the
source, who asked not to
be identified, said at half-
time of the win over St.
Francis. “Beck handled
this the way he was origi-
nally told to handle it on
Friday. On Monday, he
was fired.”
At issue, is an incident
when Zaffram was a stu-
dent at Sweet Home.
When Zaffram transferred
to Canisius after his sopho-
more year, it was decided
that the incident would not
be carried over to his time
as a Canisius student. Apparently, Canisius principal, Father
Joseph Constantino disagreed.
Now, online petitions seeking to remove Constantino as
school principal have started, alumni are decrying the poor pub-
licity and trustees are meeting to find a way to settle the matter.
Incredibly, the national media has started to pick up on the story.
And, in the midst of the firestorm, Canisius had a playoff
game looming.
Solomon Renfro stepped in at MLB and FB for Zaffram and
played very well.
“He had big shoes to fill tonight,” Robbins said. “He’s a team
captain and he had to step in a lead us. He ran hard, he played
well on defense. He did great.”

“He’s been starting at CB all year,”
Langworthy said. “and he’s been coming
up big all season long. He’s a good cover
guy and a good tackler.”
Ramos also returned an interception
for a TD in the Raiders first-round play-
off win over Lockport.
“He's really stepped up since the
playoffs started,” Langworthy said.
The defense
helped put the
game away early.
After Ramos
returned his INT,
the defense forced
a 3-and-out by
Orchard Park.
Jamestown took
possession on their
own 25 and took
just 4 plays to
score again.
Jackson capped the
drive as he ran 23
yards for the score.
“With our
defense playing the
way it is,”
Langworthy said,
“being up 21 at the
end of the first
quarter is a great
thing.”
With 6 minutes left in the half, the
Raiders’ defense struck again.

Langworthy said.
“He was a tremen-
dous player on the
JV team but then
he didn’t play as a
junior. He took a
year off from foot-
ball.”
Liuzzo returned
to the squad as a
senior. He retuned
a fumble 87 yards
for a TD in
Jamestown’s loss
to Canisius earlier
this year.
“He’s a
wrestler,”
Langworthy said.
“He’s tough and knows how to use
leverage. Sometimes we drop him into
coverage.”
Jamestown has now played at the The
Ralph four straight seasons. After losing
twice to Orchard Park, the Raiders have
now won two straight titles.
“When you're kids are there for the
first time, it can be tough," Langworthy
said. "The first time you are there, no
matter what you say in the week going
into the game, it's a totally different
experience when
you get there."
The Raiders
experience played
a role and the
team's expectations
are high this year.
"Some of our
guys have been to
the Ralph 3 years
in a row,"
Langworthy said.
“That's a pretty
awesome level of
experience. This
year, we didn't go
out of the tunnel
and stare at any-
thing. It’s a football
game. We’ll play
the game and it
doesn’t matter
where it’s played.”
Jamestown will now play in the Far
West Regionals at 6 pm Saturday at All-
High Stadium in Buffalo.
The Raiders will face Section 5
(Rochester) champion Victor. Jamestown
is ranked 3rd in NYS in Class A while
Victor (9-1) is ranked 9th.

“We were try-
ing to decide what
to do,” Faller said.
“We didn't talk
confidence or any-
thing like that. We
were just talking
about where to put
people.”
Sweet Home
had already
missed one golden
opportunity to
take the lead. Late
in the 3rd quarter,
the Panthers
drove to the South
Park 3-yard line. After two plays lost
yardage, South Park’s Mike McDonald
intercepted a pass over the middle and
returned it 36 yards.
“We had 1st-and-goal on the 3 and
couldn't get in,” Faller said. “The kid
jumped the pattern and returned it 35
yards. It was a big play at the time.”
After getting a second chance to take
the lead, the Panthers were facing the
possibility of losing the championship
game for the sec-
ond straight year.
“That was it,
we had to score,”
Faller said. “That
was our chance
right there. We had
to make a play and
we did.”

caught it one step
ahead of the
Sparks defender
and Sweet Home
led 20-18.
“Brandon was
covered and got
good position,” Faller said. “There’s a
reason he’s going to play at UB next
year. He’s one of our leaders but other
kids stepped up too.”

On the ensuing kickoff, Sweet Home
senior Nyamekyi Daniels lunged at the
return man and punched the ball loose.
Sweet Home’s Josh Parsons recovered
the ball on the South Park 35-yard line.
Two minutes
later, Jordan Evert
ran 23 yards down
the sideline for a
game-clinching TD.
“Our two
biggest players
made two big
plays,” Faller said
of Smiley and
Evert. “That’s
really what it
takes to win at
this level.”
However,
Daniels, who has
received scant
media attention
this season, made
the biggest play of
the season.
“That’s what
we tell the kids,”
Faller said. “You never know who’s going
to come up with the play. Someone has a
chance to step up and he did.”
Daniels starts at DE and also plays
on kickoff coverage.
“He played a little bit last year,”
Faller said, “but he earned a starting
role this summer. He started the first
game against Jamestown and by the
third week he was starting all the time.
Nyamekyi had one of our better games.”
Daniels has been a solid player in
the Sweet Home
program.
“He’s been with
us since he was in
the modified pro-
gram,” Faller said.
“He improved. He
was always on the
edge of starting
and was never a
star. This year he
got his chance.”
Daniels fin-
ished the game
with 3 tackles, 1
for lost yardage,
and the caused
fumble.
“He’s a smart
kid with real good
grades,” Faller
said. “He plays
hard and wants to
be on the team.”
Sweet Home will now play in the
Far West Regional game at 8pm Friday
at All-High Stadium in Buffalo against
Section 5 champion Irondequoit. Sweet
Home (9-1) is ranked 3rd in NYS while
Irondequoit (7-3) is ranked 11th.

The TD play
capped a stunning
comeback for the
Warriors. It was the
biggest comeback
in Section 6 history
at the Ralph as
Cheektowaga
scored 33 points in
the final quarter.
Cheektowaga
trailed just 14-7 at
the half and Fatta
was hoping his
team could
regroup.
“I told the kids
at halftime that it
was a long game,” Fatta said. “I was wor-
ried about Bennett going up 21-7 on us.”
Instead, Bennett scored twice in the
third quarter and actually led 28-7 enter-
ing the 4th quarter.
“I just told the kids to keep believing,”
Fatta said. “We talk about these things all
the time. This was the time to do it.”
On the first play of the fourth quarter,
Ciezki started the comeback by running 9
yards for a TD.
“He’s tough as nails and runs hard,”
Fatta said. “He’s a
200-pound kid who
can run you over.”
The Warriors
still trailed 28-14.
“I said if we get
a stop we could get
right back in this,”
Fatta said. “We got
the stop on defense
and scored again.”
With 8:12 left in
the game, Ciezki hit
Tyron Lawson with
a 65-yard TD pass
to pull the Warriors
within 28-21.
“Zak keeps it
cool,” Fatta said.
“He's a competitor
and he holds it all
together.”
On the ensuing
kickoff, the
Warriors recovered a Bennett fumble and
took possession on the 6-yard line. Two
plays later, Ciezki ran in from 5 yards out
to pull within 28-21.
“It started to snowball there,” Fatta
said. “We got another turnover and got

rushing and 2 passing. He completed 9 of
23 passes for 224 yards.
“He did that against a team that was
sending the house at the kid,” Fatta said.

Drequon Trotter.
“He is the vocal
leader of our
defense,” Fatta said.
“He is the guy in
practice that chal-
lenges us. He’s the
guy everyone
respects. He’s a
focused kid.”
Trotter (5-9,
190) finished with 8
tackles, 5 solo.
“He puts himself
in position to make
plays,” Fatta said.
“He’s strong and
can get off blocks.
He does everything
you need a middle linebacker to do.”
Cheektowaga will now play in the Far
West regional at 3 pm Saturday at All-High
Stadium against Section 5 champion
Batavia. Cheektowaga (8-2) is ranked 10th
in NYS while Batavia (9-1) is ranked 6th.

MGCLake led 6-0 after one quarter
and 20-0 at the half as they overpow-
ered Southwestern 37-7 to win the
Class C championship game at Ralph
Wilson Stadium last weekend.

the contest while
holding
Southwestern to
just 70 yards on
the ground.
“We were able
to run the ball,”
MGCLake coach
Curt Fischer said
after the game.
“Our running game
has done pretty
well all year.”
MGCLake
senior Ryan Miller
led the charge as
he carried 23
times for 231
yards and 4 TDs.
“We could get
Ryan three or four hundred yards a
game,” Fischer said. “In some of our
games, he is getting 9 carries. His
yards-per-carry average is amazing.”
The Thunder Dragons drove 80
yards in just four plays for the game’s
first score. AJ Hulton capped the drive
when he hit Jed Micek with a 48-yard
scoring pass to give MGCLake a 6-0
lead.
The teams battled evenly for the next
few possessions
but MGCLake
struck in a big way
with 6 minutes left
in the half.
Southwestern
downed a punt on
the 10-yard line and
it took just one play
for the Dragons to
cover 90 yards.
Miller took a
handoff and went
up the middle
before veering out-
side. He covered
all 90 yards in
about 10 seconds
to give MGCLake
a 12-0 lead. Miller
then punched in
the 2-point PAT.
“He's special,”
Fischer said. “He is a very patient runner.
It’s like he floats in the air, and then
plants his foot and changes direction. It's
amazing to watch.”
Miller also runs with power.

In the third
quarter, the
MGCLake
defense flexed its
muscles when
Hulton sacked the
Southwestern QB
in the end zone
for a safety and a
22-0 lead.
“Our defense
has given us an
opportunity to go
for it on 4th-and-
short when we
should be punting,” Fischer said. “The
confidence we have in our defense
allows us to take chances that we
wouldn’t normally take. They just shut
other teams down.”
Miller would score two more TDs to
give the Thunder Dragons a 37-0 lead
before Southwestern ruined the shut out
with a TD late in the game.
Miller (5-11, 192) is being looked at
by several college teams.
“Quite a few D-3 schools want him,”
Fischer said,
“We’ve heard from
Alfred, Buff State
and Hobart. They
would all be great
options for him. I
feel there are a
couple of D-2
schools that he
could play at. We
have been in touch
with Edinboro,
Gannon and
Mercyhurst but he
is keeping all of
his options open.”
Hulton added
37 yards rushing
to the offense. He
also completed 2
of 4 passes for 79
yards and a TD.
Jonah Tanner ran 4 times for 28 yards.
The Thunder Dragons will now play
Section 5 champion LeRoy at 12 pm
Saturday at All-High Stadium in
Buffalo. LeRoy (10-0) is ranked 2nd in
NYS while MGCLake (10-0) is ranked
3rd.

stop their running game.”

Randolph

their own 30-yard
line. The Cardinals
proceeded to drive
70 yards on 14 plays
over 7 minutes to

Bryce Morrison capped the drive when he
ran in from 4 yards out.
“That was big,” Brown said. “That took
up a huge chunk of the first quarter.”
Randolph defensive linemen Jeff
Andrews and Michael Bowers were
unmovable all night.
“Those two big guys stopped any run
up the middle,” Brown said. “Those kids
kept coming hard.”
After forcing another punt, Randolph
took over on their own 29. This time, the
Cardinals used only
2:09 to travel the 71
yards for another
TD. Morrison
scrambled and
tossed a 14-yard TD
pass to Derek Young
for a 13-0 lead.
Morrison finished
the night with 5 of 9
passing for 192
yards and a 2 TDs.
“He's been a
starter for 3 years,”
Brown said. “He
started as a 10th
grader at OLB.”
Morrison was
moved to TE as the
Cardinals won the
NYS Championship
in 2013. This year,
he was move to QB.
“He's had a pret-
ty big year for us,” Brown said.
In the 4th quarter, with Randolph hold-
ing a 21-0 lead, Ellicottville punted and
downed the ball at the 1-yard line.

play ever at the Ralph - which was set in
2012 when Pat Slater was the head coach.
“We wanted to see if we could break
Pat’s record,”
Brown said with a
laugh. “We only
tied it.”
Morrison also
played SS for the
Randolph defense
in the win. It was
the first time this
season Morrison
has played defense.
“We had a cou-
ple of kids injured,”
Brown said, “so we
put Bryce back to
play safety. We had
to change a couple
things around but
it's not new for him.
He played defense
all last year.”
Devyn Nelsen
rushed 22 times for
111 yards in the
win.
“Devyn’s quick and has speed,” Brown
said. “I wish he was a little bigger but he’s
tough. He’s been a running back all the
way up through our program.”
The defense will continue to play a big
role if Randolph is going to win a 3rd
straight NYS title. The Cardinals will need
a big contribution from Junior CB Tyler
Stahley.
“He has pretty good speed,” Brown
said. “He’s tall and has good hands. He’s a
good cover guy.”
Stahley (6-2,
170) finished the
season with 8 INTs.
“He’s a smart
and disciplined kid,”
Brown said. “He'll
read what he’s sup-
posed to read and
does not get out of
position. He’s very
athletic and the ball
seems to find him.”
Stahley, who
also plays basketball
at Randolph, has an
academic average in
the mid-90s.
“He works
hard,” Brown said.
“He certainly knows
what our scheme is
and what his job is
every week. He
does a good job out
there.”
Randolph will play Section 5 champion
Red Jacket at 5 pm Friday at All-High
Stadium in Buffalo. Randolph (9-1) is
ranked #1 in NYS while Red Jacket (10-0)
is ranked 2nd.

Bishop Timon beat St. Joe's 26-21 last
night to advance to the Msgr. Martin
Championship game against Canisius.
The Tigers trailed 21-12 at the half but
scored twice in the second half to pull
out the win.
"It's a good
win," coach
Charlie Comerford
said. "The kids
showed a lot of
heart in the second
half."
In a wild first
half that saw the
teams turn the ball
over a combined
seven times, St.
Joe's scored 3
times to take a 21-
6 lead in the sec-
ond quarter.
Myles Young
opened the scoring
when he broke
away for a 70-yard
TD run. Darren
Thompson fol-
lowed with a 57-
TD run. QB David Archer tossed a 63-
yard TD pass to Young to give the
marauders a 21-6 lead.
Timon battled back, however, as
Arenzo Thomas scored on a 4-yard run to
pull the Tigers within 21-12. Thomas
rushed for 101 yards and set a new sin-
gle-season rushing record. He has rushed
for 1,574 yards this season.
In the second half, Timon could not
cash in on several scoring opportunities.
They had 5 drives start inside the 26-yard
line of St. Joe's and
failed to score on
every drive. Three
times the Tigers
drove inside the 10-
yard line and came
up empty.
Finally, on the
last play of the
third quarter, QB
Brandon May ran
15 yards for a TD
to pull Timon with-
in 21-20.
Late in the
game, St. Joe's was
trying to grind out
the clock when
Tyler Ringwood
recovered a fumble
to give Timon one
last chance with a
possession on the
St. Joe's 35.
May ran in for the game-winning TD
from 5 yards out with just 1:06 left in the
game. He finished with 207 yards pass-
ing, 84 yards rushing and 2 TDs.
Timon will now play Canisius at 6:00
pm Thursday at Ralph Wilson Stadium
for the Msgr. Martin Association title.

Jamestown stayed atRalph Wilson Stadiumlate into the night - andinto the early morning - towin the Section 6 ClassAA championship lastweek. In a game that did-n’t start until 10pm,Jamestown roared out toan early 21-0 lead andthen pounded out a 34-14win over Orchard Park.
“We didn't realize howlate it was,” Jamestowncoach Tom Langworthysaid. “Our players wereso ready to play and ourcoaches were so readyto coach that none of useven noticed what time itwas. When we lined upfor the Awards ceremonyafter the game, I lookedat my watch and it said12:57. We didn't gethome until 3 am.”
The wait was worth it. The Red Raiders,
wearing their alternategreen jerseys, scored 3TDs in the first quarter.
“We always preach tostart fast and that’s whatwe did,” Langworthy said.“With our defense playingthe way it is, being up 21at the end of the first quarter is a great thing.”
On the Raiders second drive of the game, quarterbackNicc Holland hit Zack Panebianco with a 46-yard TD passto open the scoring. On the Quakers next possession,Jamestown's Joe Ramos returned an interception 45yards for a TD and a 14-0 lead.
“We forced a three-and-out right after that,”Langworthy said. “That was a big stop for our defense.”
Jamestown took the OP punt at their own 25 and fourplays later, Devan Jackson ran 23 yards for a TD and a21-point advantage.
The rest of the game was a showcase for the defense.“We have a great defense,” Langworthy said. “I know
our offense has gotten a lot of attention over the past
year but we are prettyproud of our defense.We play solid on specialteams and we areputting up points but ourdefense has been out-standing.”
The defense scored apair of TDs in the titlegame. In addition toRamos’ “Pick-Six”, KyleLiuzzo also scored adefensive TD.
With OP backed up totheir own 1-yard line,Liuzzo rushed the QB inthe end zone, batted thepass into the air, andcaught the ball whilestanding in the endzone. The play gave theRaiders a 28-0 leadshortly before the half.
The Raiders used therest of the evening topound out a workman-like performance. Theyrushed for 205 yardsand held Orchard Parkto 73 rushing yards.
Even the green jer-seys stood out for theRed Raiders.
“Our booster clubbought alternate colorsfor us this year,”
Langworthy said.”We’ve talked about doing it for yearsand we finally ordered them this year.”
The Raiders first wore the jerseys in a home gameagainst Canisius.
“We warmed up in our red jerseys that night,"Langworthy said, “and then went in and changed to thegreen ones. When we came out to start the game, thecrowd went nuts. They look pretty sharp.”
The players actually had to keep the jerseys a secretfor almost five months.
Jamestown lineman Joe Mistretta says that the playersdiscovered the jerseys in a coaches office in April.
“We all thought they looked awesome,” Mistretta said.
Jamestown senior lineman Joe Mistretta has been a 2-way starterfor 3 years. Mistretta is among the top linemen in WNY and main-tains an academic average in the mid-90s.

“We wanted to talk about them but we couldn’t. We knew itwould be exciting to come out for a game wearing them.”
Langworthy is not sure if the green jerseys will makeanother appearance this season.
“We wore them against Canisius and at the Stadium,”he said. “The kids wanted to wear them on the big stage. Iguess we'll let the captains make the decision.”
Mistretta, a team captain, is also a workout director ofsorts. He designed the Raiders weight-room regimen thatthey used this past summer.
“Joe lifts weights every day during the off season,”Langworthy said. “He researched a lot over the years. Heactually had a part in helping to design our summer pro-gram because a lot of players wanted to do Joe’s workout.He put together a system and we used his workout andour kids are stronger because of it.”
The Red Raiders were certainly strong this season. Lastweekend, they were transformed into a Green Machinewith the methodical way they beat Orchard Park. Simplyput, every part of the Raiders was in working order.
“We played well in all phases,” Langworthy said. One player who epitomized the term “machine” was
Mistretta, who has led the Raiders line all season.“He’s extremely strong,” Langworthy said. “He benches
350 pounds and squats close to 500 pounds.”Mistretta (6-2, 265) is one of the top linemen in WNY.“He’s very athletic and very quick,” Langworthy said.
“The combination of speed, strength and size makes him agreat lineman.”
Mistretta is certainly in the discussion when it comes tofinalists for the Trench Trophy, which will be awarded toWNYs top linemen in a few weeks.
“From the time he was a freshman he wanted to win theTrench Trophy,” Langworthy said. “He’s certainly goodenough. He’s also very smart, coachable and he’s a tech-nician. He went to linemen camps throughout the summerto try and get even better."
Mistretta confirms his long-term thoughts about theTrench Trophy.
“When I was younger I watched Cortland Haines andJohn Czech play for Jamestown,” he said. “I looked up themand said that I wanted to go out there and do as well asthey did. I started working out and lifting in the 6th grade.”
Mistretta is now a 3-year starter on both the offensiveand defensive lines. He says that this championship wasdifferent than the title that Jamestown won in 2013.
“We knew that we had a good team coming back,” hesaid. “We expected to be here. We went into this gameknowing that if we played our best football we should win.”
The Raiders lost in the Far West Regionals last yearand this year want to go further than they did.
“Our team is hungry this week," Mistretta said. "We areready to get back at it. We are far from our goal which is towin at the Dome. We need to come out, practice hard andbe ready to win this week.”
Jamestown will play Section 5 champion Victor at 7 pmSaturday at All High Stadium in Buffalo.

The Hobart College football teamsecured its fourth straight LibertyLeague title with a 29-27 victory atSt. Lawrence this afternoon. Withthe win theStatesmen alsoearned theleague's auto-matic bid to theNCAA playoffs.Hobartimproves to 9-0overall and 6-0in the LibertyLeague. TheStatesmenused a 39-yardfield goal byfirst-year WillMcCool with1:03 left in thefourth quarterto secure thevictory. Hobarthanded theSaints (7-2, 5-1) their firstLeague loss.
Offensively, the Statesmengained a season-high 488 yards ofoffense against a St. Lawrenceteam that was sixth in the nation intotal defense. Hobart rushed for 215
yards, including 125 yards fromjunior running back ConnerHartigan, and got a career-high 273yards passing from senior quarter-
back PatrickConlan. TheSaints werefourth in thenation in pass-ing yardsallowed(105.1/g) and39th in rushingdefense (114.3yds/g), but gaveup season-highs to theStatesmen.
SLU wasable to stay inthe gamethanks to fivetakeaways onthree fumblesand two inter-ceptions.TheSaints put up251 yards of
offense, throwing for 257, but finish-ing with minus 6 rushing. The St.Lawrence ground game was hurt byseven Statesmen sacks and a wildsnap from center.
