    Thus,thefollowingstatementfromACSM'sResourceManualforGuidelinesforExerciseTestingandPrescriptionisofimportance: ArecommendationfromtheAmericanMedicalAssociationsuggeststhatROMshouldbemeasuredusingthreeconsecutivetrialsandaveragedasthetruevalue.IftheaverageROMis50degrees,threeofthemeasurementsmustfallwithin5degreesofthemean.Iftheaverageisgreaterthan50degrees,threemeasurementsmustfallwithin10degreesofaverage.Suchmeasuresmaybetakenuptosixtimesuntiltheymeetthecriteria;otherwise,theyareconsideredinvalid.
